For the Morgan Wallen thing, I get it. My eyes widened when I saw the track list. 36 songs? Are you kidding me? There are Broadway cast albums with fewer songs on them and they have multiple artists and singers on them. The original version of "All Things Must Pass" has only half the amount of songs as this album and that was a triple album! "The Last Waltz" was shorter than this and at least that was a live album! 36 songs of new material?! You really think people are going to spend two hours listening to this Morgan? For fucks sake not even the longest albums in the 90's were this bloated. You couldn't have at least cut a third of this?!

I'll say this regarding Lighting Up The Sky, It's not my favorite Godsmack album by any means but I do think it was probably the best result we could've gotten given the circumstances. Cause when you think about it, The album preceding it was extremely polarizing among the fanbase and turned away a lot of long time listeners as a result, Though in spite of its controversy, It also managed to be their most successful release since Faceless in 2003. With all 4 singles going straight to the #1 spot on the rock charts. So given this, I think the decision to not stray any further away from their core sound was a smart move. I mean really, If you took the song Red, White & Blue out of the tracklisting it'd probably be their fourth best album behind the first three. The writing on the rest of the songs is pretty solid and there's so many tiny details that give it much more personality than the previous two had. I don't think it'll ever have a proper reevaluation but I do think time will show that Lighting Up The Sky was a good send off. Or at least the title track itself, Say what you will about the rest of the album but the 3 song sequence of Best Of Times, Growing Old, and Lighting Up The Sky was just perfect. As for the rest the only other album I listened to last year was Puddle Of Mudd's Ubiquitous and it was so inconsistent that it made me appreciate Welcome To Galvania more. At least that album for all of its flaws actually tried.

I'm soooooooooooo glad you showed no mercy and brought the hammer down on U2's "Songs Of Surrender". That was such a depressing slog of a listen and it is beyond me how U2, a band that used to grip me with every new release from the late 80s on through the early 00s...............have been one of the single most complacent, unimaginative acts in all of music and are in the midst of a two-decade-long losing streak beginning with shamelessly plagiarizing themselves with "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" and becoming even more uninspired and sanitized ever since. "Pop" was the last U2 album I enjoyed listening to from front to back. It may have been a hot mess of an album, but that's exactly why I enjoyed it: because they were swinging for the fences and were fearlessly willing to be experimental, and it made for a really interesting listening experience even as obviously imperfect as it was. Moreover, some of Bono's most personal, vulnerable songs EVER appear on that album with "Mojo", "Please" and "Wake Up Dead Man". One of my single biggest issues with U2 over these past two decades..............is Bono's OBSESSION with every lyric and every song NEEDING a big statement. When, really, I feel Bono is at his best lyrically when he gets more personal and vulnerable. And I'm just patiently waiting as a long-suffering follower of U2 for him to deliver more of that and for the rest of the band to revitalize that experimental hunger again. Until then, I'm awaiting with bated breath Todd In The Shadow's TRAINWRECKORDS episode on "No Line On The Horizon".

Hey Crash good to see you back at it my dude, while I agree with just about everything on this list, your assessment of the new A7X was SPOT ON. I've been down with avenged since at least unholy confessions and city of evil still has some of my most favorite songs they've made and that new album was a hot steamy pile of suck. It was like giving a schizophrenic ADHD patient a mountain of cocaine and letting them record every hair brained idea and tossing all of it into a blender with no rhyme or reason or structure and being forced to slurp it all down while pretending that it's a genius innovation, like they had 50 songs all chopped to pieces and stitched together Frankenstein style. And yeah my first thought after 3 songs was exactly comparing it to a poor imitation of Mr. Bungle. Only when you put it at the top of the list did I finally realize it is pretty much number one worst for me too, if only because I really wanted to like it and wanted it to be good but was sadly disappointed. Still it's great seeing you again hope next year has some better music for you and the rest of us.
@crazydud33808 ай бұрын
I am fine with people liking and defending it, but so many of them get downright offended if you disagree with them. The silliest argument is that it is too artsy for us. More often than not A7X fans have had little exposure to true experimental music, so this is silly to say in most cases. As Crash said, listen to the artists they said they were inspired by. They do it far better. You can be weird, unusual, and non-traditional while still being cohesive, rather than random and slapdash.

As an old/og (maybe former is a better word) 30STM fan, it’s sad how little is left of the band they used to be. Their first 2 albums are good and I think the first one is pretty underrated, but the stuff they make now (or have been making for yearss) is just lazy and boring. Might as well call it quits, but you know that won’t happen anytime soon

Tegan and Sara didn’t release an album this year therefore I am entirely apathetic to every album released in 2023 (send help)

To this day, I still don't know what critics from magazines, media and all that shit saw in Life is but a Dream to give it rave reviews. They wanted that interview with M. Shadows THAT bad?

Im glad noticed the yearly themes for the worst list. Personally 2023 was "The year that didnt want to be 2023". Huh, also goes hand in hand with that

Morgan Wallen one thing at the time is already on my worst album of the year. Gosh that album is garbage.

Man I hate the Macklemore sucks because I'm from Seattle and we've only ever had two and a half famous musicians who don't make grunge

30 Seconds To Mars has to be one of the most disappointing bands. Especially when you listen to that first album. There was potential there at one point. It's sad to see what they've (and basically Jared Leto) become.

yo crash what did you think of so much for stardust by fall out boy? it was better than their last album mania in my opinion but still kinda average overall and half of the album felt very lazy.

Even with the avenged sevenfold album I would argue listen to Kim Dracula's album instead, not as experimental as Mr bungle but still similar kind of thing I do wonder how the avenged sevenfold album would have turned out if they created it back in their prime when his vocals were actually pretty good, maybe they would have created less terrible choices on the album too

Maybe its the wrestling fan in me, but his song 'Nakamura' was a good one in my book. Single song from that album in enjoyed.

49:30 THANK YOU CRASH! I wanted badly, so fucking badly, to enjoy this album. I listened to it about 5 times, each one really digging in to see any hidden depth and complexities. And they just WEREN'T THERE! Everyone I know really enjoyed this album, but I just can't get past the abysmal production and monotonous repetition in most of the songs. To the point that when I saw A7X at Louder Than Life, I had a whiplash of enjoyment. From pulse pounding highs, to literally bawling my eyes out over a friend gone far too soon during So Far Away. To just apathy during any of the LIBAD songs.

I laughed a lot harder when you made your comment about U2 being self-indulgent than I think you wanted me to.
