Beautiful and I agree with you that a subtle transition truly shows the beauty and creativity of the craftsmanship. Looks way more natural and refined than stark color changes. Great work my friend ❤

I just sanded down a torn toe on a Magnanni and despite using 1000 grit sandpaper, the sanding revealed a raised grain. I ended up sealing it up with some Saphir polymer and dyeing, but I am impressed by your smooth sanding results. Did you use different grits and how did you avoid a raised grain popping through. Excellent job!

I really enjoyed your video! You mentioned a solution of water and isopropyl alcohol for the crease correction. What ratio do you mix it. Second questions is where do you buy your dyes, is this a Dutch supplier?

Fantastic. I too do a transitional shine from the tip of the toe back. I saw some cheap shoes where they made the toe box out of shiny plastic and decided that the transitional look was much better and it's a little more obvious that I take care of my shoes. People think to wear a luxury watch will tell people you have money. Wearing properly cared for, quality shoes, opens more doors of opportunity as it shows you are a detailed person.

Very nice restoration and patina work but the museum calf leather John Lobb uses is not painted the same way you do. Real museum calf leather gets it's typical look in the tanning process.

Very nice work. Will renovator help a bit more on the top brake? I have a pair that are on same condition as vid.
@svendoesrestoration70792 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, thanks, what doe you mean by 'top brake'? Renovateur has mink oil, which is quite sticky and will darken the leather. Unless leather is really dry or rough, I find that the regular Saphir neutral cream based on Shea butter works great.

So in your other comment you said these are hi-polish? But they don't seem as plasticky to me, at least not like the "black hi-shine" that I have in mind. The latter is probably not very repairable, right?..
@SvenEugenots2 жыл бұрын
Ah, I think you probably mean patent leather; that is leather treated with a couple of layers of acrylic coating. When that cracks it looks awful, it also tends to ripple a lot more. Often those cracks can be sanded down or rubbed away with acetone ( dissolves the coating), after which you can aply some dye/cream and polishing. Usually it's possible to make the cracks a lot less noticeable.
@xMisterVx2 жыл бұрын
@@SvenEugenots Yeah I think that's how British manufacturers like to refer to their patent leather?.. OK so acetone won't destroy it completely, good to know. I thought it would dissolve the coating and would just irreversibly damage it.
@SvenEugenots2 жыл бұрын
@@xMisterVx It does remove the shine so you have toe think about how to deal with that, often patent leather polishes really well beacuse it's so smooth.
