After using various stove heads paired with tin cups for too many years to mention I finally bought a JB Zip a couple of years ago. For my personal use - just to boil water with an occasional boil in the bag meal - it is simply … perfect. I love it’s reliability and performance even in cold wet weather and I love the look of it, that neat jet black look. It suits me.

Great video, very informative - thank you for taking the time to create it. You talk a bit about weight, which makes me think: Is there any advantage to 'training' with a heavier paddle and then using a lighter blade when out on expedition / doing longer and more adventurous things?
@AdventuringIrishman
@AdventuringIrishman 10 ай бұрын
Thanks Tim. I think so, I enjoy using the extra weight and I think it adds to feeling of lighter blades. I know on expeditions I use the Kobe Passage and the Celtic Carbon 650 blade and both feel effortless in comparison to the Krack...Sunset.

Awesome! (Not burning a hole in your pot) You’re right, any gas works well with the Zip, but jetboil recommend you use their Jetfuel gas for warranty reasons I believe. Its okay for me if its on concrete walls. But I hate seeing it sprayed on red brick buildings that are a thing of beauty in their own right. That was one of my pet hates in Berlin and Hamburg as they had ruined the facades of some fantastic buildings. I hope we never suffer that in Belfast.

Nice vid and interesting scenery. Gabions at the Gobbins...love it. Don't see very much sea kayaking on line out of Ireland. I'd be keen to see a lot more. That looked like the Scorpio doing the roll at the end. Hope he didn't fill his hatches. My Scorpio Mk2 leaked badly into every hatch with the rear day hatch the worst.
@AdventuringIrishman
@AdventuringIrishman 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The currents and tides in that area can make it hard to get this close to the caves - we were pretty lucky to get into the cracks we did. Feel free to follow - I’ll be posting plenty more videos showcasing the best Ireland had to offer for sea kayaking. Carls boat is a MK2 scorpio. I had one before- I’ve never had a problem with hatches leaking although I did have accidentally left a lip up on the rear hatch in a hurry and regretted it. I made the switch to Nigel Dennis, mostly because I couldn’t get a Cetus and when I paddled the SKUK Romany I fell in love with its characteristics. Do you still have a scorpio or do you paddle something else?
@janeseddon5500
@janeseddon5500 2 жыл бұрын
I still have the Scorpio and love its characteristics. It is my kayak for surfing and day trips. I have a number of other kayaks but the Scorpio is a favourite tool. Sailing kayaks is popular here in Aus and the Mk2 was all ready to accept one of my sails from the get go. I use a Flat Earth 0.7m2 sail which suits the kayak nicely. The almost self rolling characteristic makes the Scorpio feel bombproof when conditions get a little gnarly. I have resolved most of the leaks with clever use of plastic rubbish bags and 2mm bungee. Not so attractive, but it is better than the alternative. The leaky hatches only arise when rolling the kayak really, but here in the sub tropics in Qld, rolling is something you do often to keep up your skill, or just to get cool. Thanks for responding to my comment. BTW I also have the following kayaks if you are interested in checking them out. Tiderace Xplore L, Hybrid 550, Paddling Perfection Sea Bear and a Roscoe Tasman Raider Expedition. Cheers.@@AdventuringIrishman
@AdventuringIrishman
@AdventuringIrishman 2 жыл бұрын
@@janeseddon5500 no sweat - always happy to engage with fellow paddlers! The scorpio is great - but I am guessing the heat in Aus might contribute to leaky hatches as the design of the bulk heads is rubbish. I found in my mk1 that after a long paddle on a warm day in France the hatches were bulging and started leaking after. On closer inspection I found the hatches were stretched bit worse still, the point the bulkhead meets the hull had become detached allowing cockpit water to make its way in. That’s when I resolved to fibreglass. Love tiderace boats - super cool. A friend, Daryl, bought an Xplore and loves it. Found it heat fully loaded when we paddled around the Welsh Island of Anglesey. I will have to look up the others- sounds like you’ve a great collection! I sold my scorpio to a friend (you’ll see him in the orange beast in an upcoming video) and I’ve only got my NDK Romany Excell and NDK Explorer HV. I’m planning on getting a Rockpool Taran 16 but I’ve found the Explorer does the same thing with a traditional shape and less wind exposure. I’m looking at getting the NDK Romany Sport RM for rock hopping, however my Romany excell doest the job well enough - bomb proof boats

Strava is good, but the fact you need to go in and change the file from sailing to kayaking is annoying - plus Strava only comes alive with the use of a fitness tracker. what do you think about the new kayak licence fee for 2023?
@AdventuringIrishman
@AdventuringIrishman 2 жыл бұрын
I had not heard of the Proposal. Have you a link to some media? Having paddled extensively in England, where a waterways licence is required by the canal and river trust (but it’s requirements not always enforced) I fully agree with licensing. Being a member of CANI (Canoe Association of Northern Ireland) or British Canoeing gives a paddler a water ways licence automatically. Paddlesports has grown massively and there is a need to better fund access and ensure better awareness of how to use the water correctly. I’m totally in favour of increasing fees if the money is used to improve waterway, education and access and isn’t just pocketed by some CEO
