Thanks for the great review. However, I enquired with Perpetual about the type of enamel dial and they confirmed that it isn't a vitreous enamel but a cold enamel instead. Apparently the process for vitreous dials would significantly increase the cost of the watch. Cold enamelling is an applied lamination which appears like fired enamel. It's still a fantastic watch at an incredible price and I've just ordered one!

I think this would be my watch if I could have one. But one thing that gives me pause is seeing videos where they scratch a Rolex and then scratch a Traska which has a hardening agent applied. The Rolex with 904L steel scratches and the Traska doesn't. So the big appeal of these watches is undercut. It makes one rethink things. Now does this make me want to buy a Traska. In some ways, yes. But in other ways, it makes me think I can just buy a $100 Seiko 5 and buy 2 of the same as replacements and still have money left over. I mean the dial is what one is really after. And for me, the Seiko 5 is just fine. At some point, the math just doesn't add up in this watch game. But as Kevin O'Leary says, it doesn't matter what the price of the watch is if you don't like the dial.
@themicrobrandexpert
@themicrobrandexpert 14 күн бұрын
Before addressing your well articulated and valid point, I have to address the issue of scratching. You see, the reason they chose a Traska against the Rolex has nothing to do with 316L versus 904L. Both of those alloys will scratch the same when subjected to the same agent. Traska's "trump card" is its anti-scratch coating, which drives its imperviousness up to 1200 Vickers, about 5x times more than untreated 316L or 904L stainless steel. As for getting a couple of Seiko 5s instead of a more expensive watch, it's a valid approach if you can find happiness in it. I wouldn't. I have already crossed the line that lets one enjoy a watch for what it is. In a way, collecting watches seems to be (for me, at least) finding fault in every piece I own and getting a new one that would address a very specific itch. Don't get me wrong, I love all the watches in my collection, both as standalone pieces and as part of a whole, thing is that whole never seems to be... whole.
@Ben-bs4od
@Ben-bs4od 14 күн бұрын
@@themicrobrandexpert Yes. I understand. It's the treatment. I was aware of that. It still doesn't change anything. I think I do agree with you. I already have a large inexpensive watch collection that gives me enormous pleasure. Just as my inexpensive Volvo V50 I picked up for $1700 and I believe is better than any car on the road. If I could have an inexpensive weekend car I might get one. But I don't really want or need more than 3 watches. I have my father's Seiko. One my housemate gave me, a vintage Benrus, I wear daily. My goal is a GADA watch that as you say makes up for the weaknesses in those. IE. a near perfect watch. So for me, the Wise is closest I can get I believe for the money. Overall. So I hear your point and I agree. In the end, I wouldn't get 3 Seiko 5s because I would still feel that same itch- for a better crystal, a better hardness rating, a better movement, water resistance, a thinner profile. And the Seiko fails in all 5 areas. I want essentially a watch that is like my car, one I can go a million miles with. And for me, the Wise could be the Volvo equivalent. As long as I don't go crazy taking knives to it. So I agree with you. I will save for my next birthday to get the Wise, or even better try to get married this year, so my wife can buy it for me!!! Haha. But I do think I can be happy with this watch the same way I don't really feel too much impetus to get a new Civic over my Volvo. The good thing is, there are so many nice cheap automatic watches, I can always find a nice Seiko or Orient if I do decide I need another flavor or style. But I doubt that will be the case after this Wise. I get obsessed with cars, then move to hot chicken recipes. Then headphones. Now it's watches. Once I meet the main itch, I can move on. My new one will be- get this- natural colognes. Unless you have a better idea. No watch is perfect. But this is close enough. I will admire the new 2024 King Seiko from afar with its $1500 price tag too high for my taste. And that's ok for me. Same way I can admire a Lexus, or an Infiniti and feel I don't need it.
@themicrobrandexpert
@themicrobrandexpert 14 күн бұрын
That's very sensible (even the wife part, haha!). I now "get you" and I agree - for what you're looking for the AD7 might be the answer with its timeless design backed by modern watchmaking. As for a future obsession, natural colognes sounds very good (as a matter of fact one of the supporters of this channel splits his money between watches and fragrances). For me I guess it would be boots. Or something else made of premium leather.

Finally under the lens of some reviewers I find myself much more impressed with this watch than I thought I would when they announced it. That said, this colour way is light on contrast, and consequently I far prefer the midnight blue. I also find the footage confusing because sometimes the lizard tail seconds hand looks silver and sometimes too dark to distinguish it from the heat blued (I presume) main handset. In my view, it should be the same. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Your wearing advice would rule this watch out for me, however, which is arguably a pity. In the right colourway I think I may actually prefer the aesthetic of this idiosyncratic Feynman to others in this shape category, such as the Maen Manhattan and the Benjamin James Scarifour. Really this watch is pitching against the highly original dressy newcomers such as the Serica Parade, Echo/neutra Rivanera, and Retter Mistral (I may be forgetting others). Once imported the Feynman is at least as expensive as these, I believe. Giving my dressy preferences I'd gladly try and potentially welcome all of these in my collection, but at the same time, it's frustrating as this is not a price point I'm that happy playing with.

@benjaminvis
@benjaminvis 17 күн бұрын
@themicrobrandexpert haha! It also was the first video review I saw on the watch, so if any critique would change my opinion it would be that first. Nonetheless, as I commented, this watch in my opinion really thrives on that added contrast. It really adds a lot of depth to the engraved numerals which are the hero of the dial design alongside the brushing, if you ask me. The confusion with your footage is only that in the end I just honestly don't know whether the seconds hand is blued or silver. I never truly seem to pick up on blue tones, only black or mirror, which generally I associate with a polished silver colour, but that would seem to be an odd choice as part of an otherwise blued handset.

Do you think the 39mm version would look a tad large on ave wrist sizes (ie around 16 cm ? Another question , have you seen the ad15 (gold filled) close up ? If so what do you think of the dial ? Its nice that you get 2 straps but a negative imo that they dont offer the option of adding a bracelet for an exrra fee..(that was made or atleast selected for the watch).

While I like the AD15, I believe the 39 mm AD9 is more versatile and offers better value. If you can't make your mind up about the AD15 and still consider other watches, my opinion is you will not enjoy it as much as you should - it's the type of watch you HAVE to be very sure about.

As you already know, divers aren't exactly my genre. This is a well-established offering in the space, and their recent LE of the watch pleasantly surprised me with its additional design flair. This standard black version does relatively little for me, but I know this is probably the opposite for many. I was surprised that it is sunburst, as I didn't really see much of the effect until the last shot. For me the bracelet is a hero of this model. It really looks fantastic and is integrated very well into the case with corresponding lugs. Ditch the foldover for an elegant butterfly and trim down the excesses from the diver's bezel and case back depth due to the WR, and you'd have the bones of what could be a very fetching dressy sports watch. I know the Mandala is also there, and this has its own merits. In fact Second Hour consistently hits high marks, but I have yet to experience that elusive 'click' with any particular of their watches, even though I'd be very interested in trying several in the metal if that were possible.
@themicrobrandexpert
@themicrobrandexpert 22 күн бұрын
I thought about mentioning how the different watches in Second Hour's line up have different configuration playing on the same concept. If you check them out you'll notice how the Mandalas have 4 "stripes", the Satelbergs 3 and this one 2.
@benjaminvis
@benjaminvis 22 күн бұрын
@@themicrobrandexpert I hadn't noticed that about the bracelets until now. But I must say the balance of construction-aesthetic feels best on this one. The Mandala is quite fussy in comparison, now paying comparative attention. I think the Mandala might even look slightly better on the Gin Clear bracelet. I am also reminded that the Ripple version is really where I think the Gin Clear concept shines brightest. The Memoir seems to have no stripes according to this logic... Where next? Five?
@themicrobrandexpert

Is my anger misdirected? Probably. Apologies for my reply, no one owes me anything, so I shouldn't blame anyone for the fucked up way KZbin have decided to literally shit on my work. I'm sick and tired of spending 15 hours on videos that get no exposure. The algorythm is shit. As shitty as it is, though, engagement from the "right audience" will alleviate some issues and will potentially lead to a video being shown to appropriate audiences. If someone that likes watching watch reviews will interact with the video, there's a chance that, instead of it being shown to people interested in tech unboxings or gardening, it will be shown to other watch enthusiasts, thus increasing the only metric that matters: the click-through-rate. Again, no one owes me anything, and no one particularly is at fault for the huge frustration I feel everytime I watch my videos getting nowhere. On the other hand, not asking "please like, comment subscribe", doesn't mean I don't need it. So, is my anger misdirected? I'm pretty sure it is, so I apologise. I'm just at wit's end here.

I dont know about this watch. I saw it come by on Reddit recently, I think, and wasn't that impressed. Simply put, there are a few watches offering multifaceted cases and integrated bracelets. In the more affordable micros, perhaps de Aision recently seemed most unforgivingly impressive. The slits looking through the dial to the mechanics but not really showing anything seem to me an unnecessary gimmick that doesn't quite deliver anything of note. It's not bad looking though, and actually more legible than one would give it. The whole watch indeed looks better than expected in your review. Personally I prefer the look of the black with the lights on, but the white perhaps with the lights off. The integration looks good, the bracelet looks well-matched. The case also reminds me of Vesuviate a little and balances dress and sportiness. Though despite of all this, you may be right about its enhanced looks on a strap. That seems contrary to intentions! Halfway into the review you mention that it lacks intricacy and more daring lines, and that's I suppose exactly where the whole doesn't quite deliver for me. It looks fine, but doesn't really excite nor excel. It looks nicely put together, but it doesn't draw me in. And even if it doesn't wear overly large, I think it will be a bit large for many. On your 19cm it looks well-sized though. The simple conclusion: I think this watch just doesn't call out to me and that's OK.

To me this watch was a good surprise. I have to start by saying: it is an excellent buy, because I genuinely love how it looks on your wrist. Though I see the argument or narrowness resulting from longer lugs, ultimately this is a medium sized watch that wears large. It'll have something to do with the masculinity you refer to, and with which I'd tend to agree (not that any lady should be put off by that...) as well as the heft that results from the slightly taller thickness than would be ideal, resulting from the more affordable movement choice. Indeed, taking that into account the watch is an unattractive value proposition for European (and other non US) customers, and that's a pity. I think the long lugs, thickness, and male behaviour of the female endlink would almost certainly make this watch too large for me. But the design and execution you have demonstrated here I like far more than I perhaps thought that I would!

Thank you, Benjamin! I agree it's a match made in heaven for my wrist, but it might overpower an articulation thinner than 17 cm. Meanwhile I have to confess I'm somewhat over the salmon "craze"and I wish this was the white dialled watch.

@themicrobrandexpert @themicrobrandexpert if you feel that it fits with your collection, I'd keep it. I think it is a beautiful copper dial, not particularly pinkish salmon to my eyes. Salmon dials really do draw me in on screen. I own only one. It's objectively very very good and I like it a lot. But if there is one main criticism I have on that watch, totally down to my personal situation, I sometimes feel that the dial colour isn't the best with my skin complexion. Of course, no one else would notice this and it remains the only watch someone spontaneously complimented me on. I just love the L.U.C. Chopard, if I could ever afford or justify it. There is certainly a lot of beauty in salmon, and this, for you, in my view, is a great one.
