Very subjective question. Yes, the homage factor is there no doubt, but this is still a beautiful watch on it's own merits.

Absolutely not too much. I have the exact watch. I get many compliments on it. The quality is excellent!

50% of the cost is for the very advanced Seiko movement alone. If you look on their website they now offer a micro adjustment clasp for this model.

I impulse purchased the Pitzmann III about 8 months ago. No regrets. A pleasure to wear.

You said it well. It's also worth noting that it's not only the Daytona this takes after, but due to this colourway it's the main reference that jumps out. Other famous chronos can also be recognised, and yet, and isn't that a true sign of still going beyond the usual brief of a true homage (discarding already those that veer too close to copying) that they actually show in many respects and especially in the organisation and legibility overall how the classics could be improved? I honestly think that in composition the Pitzmann III outperforms the impression left by the Daytona and that surely must be commended. Only Traska comes readily to mind as another brand that has taken the concept of famous (Rolex) models to another level in design execution. I really welcome the date on this watch. Chronos tend to be busy watches anyway, and this does not detract. Arguably it even increases a sense of identity. So do the flaring out lugs. But having seen pictures of the II and III side by side, I'm no longer sure the base of the case is truly equal to the II. The proportions seem to have changed. All that said, I still prefer the II with its clearer individual identity, even if clearly inspired by some greats too, as was indeed the First Pitzmann. Now they've come out with their fourth, I'm less sure if this brand concept of taking the essence of a great genre in watches to make a very high quality still somewhat affordable version of this to own specifications is going to continue guiding the brand. More importantly, with their fourth watch came also the release of a rather elegant and compact microadjust clasp. I do believe this is intended to be back-compatible, taking away one concern. It would be gracious if they'd offer that to new III customers free of charge, as a choice.

I think it leans heavily toward its source material, but doesn't fall over into rip off, and the homage element gives its own appeal of course. Seems to be the direction of the brand, looking at their site. Personally, I went with the Sugess automatic, and it's brilliant, as well as being a third of the price. I used to feel the same about homages but eventually came around to appreciating a well made one. Solid review!

Really like your new format and great to see the handsome devil behind the channel. I think Pitzmann introduced enough of their own design elements that he watch can be said to be inspired by the Daytona but far from being in copy territory.

I’d say it’s closer to the Zenith Chronomaster Sport than the Daytona.

It’s not too much of an homage to the platinum blue/chestnut Rolex Daytona. Those offbeat lugs , the black bezel, and the creamy subs see to that. Aside from the lugs it’s quite attractive. Personally, I have scratchd the itch with a $120ish homage to the aforementioned Daytona, which fools the nearsighted girls.

I love the lugs, man!

@@themicrobrandexpert They’ve kind of a postmodern Empire Style flourish. Certainly not form following function. But then, if you can’t enjoy a little silly fun or weirdness in something as inconsequential as watch lugs, what are we living for? So I’m not condemning the lugs, just not feeling them.

Hi Tony. I like the new format. Another very professional review as ever. Pitzman is a brand that frustrates me in the sense that they demonstrate the capability to build a watch with the level of quality which puts the Japanese and Swiss mainstream brands to shame by comparable price point. But constantly play safe in doing so by virtually homaging like this Daytona look alike. The Korean’s have such a rich culture in their own art and design and if Pitzman brought some of that into a watch like this, they would bring a compromise of playing safe by bringing something familiar to a mass market, but looking for something unique. The trouble with them at the moment is this is an albeit far superior watch in quality, competing in a market which on the surface is offering nearly the same quality, at far lower cost, with a bit of individuality from brands (albeit quartz) like Heimdallr aka Tactical Frog. Bring a mechanical chronograph, with some Korean artistry on the other hand, and I feel they are onto something different.
