So good Alan the coronal displays are magnificent. I count myself lucky to have seen a Coronal display in early October on the Lofoten Islands, we were running out of nights and would return to the mainland for the rest of our planned holiday, and then bingo on our last two nights we had consecutive massive displays from the X9 solar flare, it was such an incredible experience and the best part my whole family got to see it.

how do you Get all the stars to show up on your camera without a Telescope? Is it something to do with gain or brightness? Or the amount of light is gathered? I dont have a good camera just a phone

Like most who have an interest in the night sky, these make me uneasy. There is some good in this, but what is the downside, and there is a downside....

Amazing catch Alan as always. Stregically we can see the grid separation of both launches. Now the task of putting them in their correct intended orbits. Most astronomers don't like it... but it sure is a marvel of science and Musk technology. Thanks for sharing... An awesome observation.

I caught a recently launched Starlink train on the edge of the frame of a long exposure of C/2023 A3 early last week. It's hard to take a subframe before 10PM that isn't infested with satellite trails.

How long do you start your video before it's scheduled to pass over you? I got some video from the 19th of 4/19 but I only saw two by eye and I cut it off too early. This is a great video. Thank you for posting!

Cool. Not an astronomer here, but wondering.. On the un tracked camera, you could alternate a red green, blue filter on the lens. The stars would come out as candy striped and the Geo sats come out as white?
@alandyer9102 ай бұрын
Yes, in theory. In practice that would be a lot of tedious work unless you had a system with a programmable filter wheel, and then for what end?
@omar18182 ай бұрын
@@alandyer910 I just think a clear image of the celestial equator would be a cool thing. I think this would reduce the brightness of the stars by 1/3 in general, and if you were to create program to remove any pixel where the color deviated from white, you'd have a pretty clear image. Kind of like Earth's version of Saturn's rings.

A beautiful illustration of the increasing pervasiveness of technology in our night sky. It gives us a moment to enjoy its beauty, the chance to reflect on its consequences, and an opportunity to ensure that its effect does not irreversibly damage the natural beauty of the universe. Thank you Alan.

The cost of bringing education and connectivity to the world. It is worth it though. Knowledge is key to short term safety and long term prosperity for those of us not fortunate enough to have fixed infrastructure on the ground.

And do you know how many third world countries and citizens are using Starlink or other LEO systems for their internet, or can afford to? That market can be and is served by geosats and conventional cell systems. The low latency of LEO satellite systems is designed to serve one primary and profitable sector: banking and stock trading. Not impoverished areas. But check on Starlink's customer base and where the profits come from. Report back -- I'd be interested to learn more.

this issue is very inherit to higher latitudes especially during summer. lower latitudes fare better in this aspect but longer exposures easily reveals starlink sats.
