what areas in south pier is good for jigging? if you have the #’s. I was more further down past the bait shop and i lost 3 jigs kept getting stuck in the rocks

Today #21, #22, #23 where 12 inches and bigger are very active. Unfortunately I only caught one under size 10 and a half Pompano this afternoon. My one and only Pompano bite from 9:30AM to 5:30PM. My friend Eric caught his 12 inches. Across us this guy caught two big Pompanos in #22 (the east side of the bridge across where we were jigging). That was probably between 3:30PM-4PM. That same guy showed me pictures of two big Pompanos he caught yesterday on the same spot he said around 1PM. Pompanos are more active in the afternoon today. Hope that helps.

@@jonserrano8221 Wow! I’m so jealous. Just got home. I’ve been jigging from 8:45am until around 2:45pm today. Not a single Pompano bite. I was also jigging from :9:30am-2pm yesterday. I went home because I need to go online for work from 3pm-6pm. Cane back around 7:30pm jugging until 9:30pm but not a single Pompano bite also. Eric one of my friend I met there in Skyway probably two years ago caught probably a 15 inches this morning a few minutes as soon as he arrived and he was just a few feet from where I was jigging. It was so hot and I am having a terrible headache.

how do you tie your pompano jigs? were you using a leader line? what lb braid and leader?

@@irshadali-uq3yj I believe I am showing on this video how I setup my line kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6S4enawrMmgnbcsi=sFTwCJcTYoeD9VCT. I am using a 30lb braided main line and usually a 30lb mono leader. When Spanish Mackerels are active I use this 50lb mono leader. Actually today I am using a 20lb leader in one of my rod but I wasn’t catching any Pompanos on that rod. That makes me to believe, it doesn’t matter how big is your leader.

Still too hot for them. Usually after the second cold front the are in pretty thick. Around October is the best time. All depends on weather

Also I got so jealous when your wife caught the 15 inches Pompano after I caught my tiny little Pompano and she was just a few steps away from me. Sorry just got a chance to reply. I’ve been jigging from 8:30am to 8:30pm today and only caught 1. My first and last Pompano bite I believe at around 7:30pm. So happy to see you guys catching those Pompanos. I will see you both next time.

I use 085 eagle claw. #1 and #2 size. I get them by the 1000 count box if you want some. Walmart has them too.

was it windy on the fort de soto bridge? really wanted to go but the not sure if the wind was strong. To know the difference of pompano and permit, permit has a orange/black anal fin. and pompano is like yellow or clear

@@momeyq After that fast moving storm the water was quiet and no wind at all. A few minutes later I caught that Permit. Then a few minutes after that two teenagers joined me and they caught a Permit also and then maybe 30 minutes after that the wind started to pick up again that’s when I decided to go home. That was probably around 4PM.

@@dannytruong4326 I really do not know. This is my 3rd year of fishing and I’ve been chasing for Pompanos at least 5 hours every time I go fishing and I feel lucky if I get one keeper a day. Lately, this year Pompanos are more active in the afternoon until early evening. But I heard people catching them early in the morning. Honestly, I don’t know my friend.

@@nickli5109 You’re so welcome Nick. Wow! Pompanos waited until I left. I think the other guy was Romeo. I also gave him some of my jigs and teasers. I am curious if he was using my jig and teaser also. So happy for you Nick. I was worried that no more keepers left for us to catch. I was so tired and was having a terrible headache that’s why I decided to go home. I am again planning to try Thursday next week. As soon as I turned off my Laptop at 5PM, I will be driving to Skyway South pier.

@@AntonioSolangon Be careful with the line tangled under the water on the west side when you go next time. A little bit north of where my car was parked. I lost two sets of jigs over there. Anyway, I wish I could go fish during the weekday, but I hope you catch a lot of pompanos next Thursday.

@@frankrothe3064 I am using 1/2 ounce. That guy Lee I believe is using 1 ounce. His jig looks bigger than mine. Friday he caught 5 and yesterday, Saturday he over his limit and he only came around 3pm. Pompanos are more active in the afternoon until early evening in Skyway south pier.

@@nickli5109 Goodluck! I caught 5 keepers and I believe 5 undersize today. The other guy Lee with the blue Toyota Tacoma caught 5 keepers and 3 undersize between 3-4pm. He went home after 4pm while I only caught 1 keeper and three undersize that time. I caught my 4 keepers after 6pm. We mostly caught our Pompanos between number 18-20 today both sides. Pompanos are everywhere. You just have to find them and get lucky to catch those keepers.

@@Guapoomole My wife fried my Permit last night while on my way home fishing. She said it smells like whiting. I couldn’t taste anything. That’s only my personal opinion of course. I had to dip it into the soy sauce so I can eat it with of course my rice. I also need soda to force myself to eat it. I did not even ate half of it. Not sure if I have to throw the left overs away. I will try to eat the leftovers for my lunch today.

Wow! That one Mangrove Snapper on the jig was definitely a keeper.😅 The Dunedin Causeway is stacked with them. They are my second favorite eating fish after Pompano of course.😁🎣 #TheDeterminedFisherman

I was thinking of grabbing my phone and search the internet but I decided to let it go to be safe. I didn’t want to waste my time and I’m in a hurry to start jigging again. Pompano is always my top priority :)

@@Guapoomole it’s all about luck. I got lucky to catch 2 this morning. An 11 inches and a 13 inches. I will try to upload my video tonight after my lunch and dinner. I just got home a few minutes ago. No bite the whole afternoon. Kinda frustrating. The weather was 100% similar than yesterday. I saw two people catching a few pomps in the afternoon including two big ones yesterday afternoon. I caught my 13 inches around 11 am on the same spot where Ely the guy on my video caught his 3 pomps. We were still catching 10 and 10 1/2 inches between #18 and 19 yesterday and that’s where I caught my 11 inches this morning.

Thank you so much for subscribing. I am trying to share as much information I can share so people will know where they can catch these Pompanos and what time. When my wife and I were learning how to fish, we had to wake up at 4am and drive hours and hours to get to Playalinda then end up driving back home empty handed. We found out later that we can catch these Pompanos here in Skyway Bridge and it is only 25 -35 minutes away from our house.

I was on the south side. Look for #18 and # 19. Pompanos are more active on that area I believe since Friday. Look for the first temporary bathroom next to Scuba Steve foodtruck. You would try both sides. Better yet if Steve (the owner of the foodtruck) is around please ask him where people are catching Pompanos. He would know everything. He is a very friendly very very nice guy. Good luck!

@@wheeledo Yes sir! I was born and race in the Philippines. I immigrated to the U.S. on February 1992. I will be turning 58 in January next year. I am thinking of retiring to the Philippines and go back to basics. Farming is on my mind but my safety is my concern plus I heard it is too hot over there. So I am looking to buy some land here in the U.S. where I can do some farming and maybe raise some chicken. Currently I am working full time as an IT professional.

Between #18 and 19 that’s where they are more active. This kid went home around 2pm with 5 keepers with him. He caught 6 Friday on that same spot.

If my math is correct, I am using ½ oz and or 3/8 oz. Sorry the specification of my Pompano jig mold is using grams not ounces. To be clear I am not promoting this guy’s mold. Just trying to share you some information. I sometimes try the 7 grams and the 5 grams but mostly I used my 11 grams and 14 grams. Also, if Spanish Mackerels are biting, I used my 50lb mono line leather. If Spanish Mackerels are not active, I used a 30lb or 40lb mono line leather. Hope this helps. Good luck Pompano jigging. @@nickli5109 You are very welcome! My pleasure to help. With my almost three years of Pompano jigging, it’s my teasers that Pompano would go after 99% of the time. I also make my own teasers. I would say yellow teasers are more effective. I was using white/pink jig with yellow or white teaser combination. Presently I use any color for my jig and with my home made pink and yellow combination teaser.

I really appreciate your comment. Believe or not, I have immigrated to the U.S. in February 1992 but still do not understand slang words. I would also like to show to those who are not familiar of the Tampa Bay and St. Pete area how beautiful this area especially the beaches and of course the most famous Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
