I really do like a lot of GW stuff, but those chinese wrenches they put out are no better than no name Amazon examples. For what you paid, the length, and the warranty its still a good deal, but I really miss the old Taiwanese stuff. If you notice, they can't even get the logo on straight, and that flat spot passing QC is insane. The newest chinese stuff seems to be better a lot better, but I always keep an eye out for the old tools in good shape. GW is very hin n miss now, back in the day you could trust anything they put thier name on, now a days its just not the case unfortunately. Im not mad, just disappointed lol.Thanks for the peek at 👍

Is that you spouting off facts ? Or a retarded opinion. We live in a world where we could actually test stuff & record facts, not wives tales 😂😂 High end name brand stuff is 4x the price, so by logic it should be 4x as good right ??? Yet it’s not even twice as good on tests. So by logic if I buy a set of snap on wrenches or Matco, Cornwell or any top brand, I expect to see minimum 4 times the quality, cause these guys are demanding minimum four times the price.

Nice collection. I know what you mean about the wrench organizers. They do waste a lot of space. I use Romex wire to make racks. I just wrap the wire around a broom handle and make enough coils for each wrench set. This way I can stand the wrenches vertical and make maximum use of drawer space.

Chrome vanadium is extremely hard, chrome moly is more impact resistant. Most wrenches are made from chrome vanadium including a lot of gearwrench wrenches. I think The cheap tools have chrome vanadium stamped on them because they want you to see it’s made from high quality alloys. Although not all chrome vanadium alloys are equal in strength and quality as with other alloys.

Desiccant packets work well, but another thing I've done is do a detailed cleaning of the sockets, and the last step, i have used FREEALL, Fluid Film, or others...i will spray it on a rag, and wipe them down with a thin layer...also, the environment for tools is very important, so make sure the building is insulated well, or do whatever you can to remove moisture from the area, because it will effect everything, not just the tools..

@@FastidiousFlynn that's been about all I've done . I wipe them off but don't clean them I leave the desiccant bag in the drawers if I can I cover the box completely to where the cracks of the drawer are covered that usually helps other than that it's just wiping them down with WD-40 or silicone spray.

I don't think the Gearwrench ratchets are junk. I have Duralast and Husky ratchets that have been good. I have older 36 tooth ratchets that I use to break loose stubborn fasteners and use the finer tooth ratchets to remove and reassemble. 1/4" drive tools are becoming more of a necessity with the smaller hardware and tight conditions encountered in modern vehicles.

That also drives me crazy when you go to the work truck and find sockets missing out of the sets the boss has in the truck for us but later down the road u see your coworker using the socket and keeping it in their personal work bag. It drives me insane! Had to buy all my own stuff since guys love to steal. Actually I don’t know anyone who that wouldn’t piss off😂 always the key sizes too! We use sae mostly so the 1/2”, 9/16”, 5/8” and 3/4” are guaranteed to be missing from every kit. The only metric sizes we use commonly is 8mm and 10mm of course. The only size not missing from all the sets we use is the 7/16” because the goofballs at work think the right size is 11mm and think I’m wrong for using the 7/16” yes the 11mm works perfectly fine! I’m going to keep letting them think those fasteners are 11 mm since it seems like we have plenty of those sockets😂 they actually bought a few 12pt 11mm sockets from the store bc they needed them for these 7/16” self tappers. Makes me chuckle. Don’t get me wrong they work!! But it’s funny they think I’m wrong when the box of fasteners shows what they are. Malco flip sockets are the best for self tappers if you never used them! Stick with the 6” and maybe buy one short one for tight areas since you can always make it longer if you needed. Harryjepstine has great prices on those.

The 90T Gearwrench set looks like a great travel tool kit for $65. I kept my Snap-on stuff at the shop and used mid tier tools for the road. Due to unfortunate circumstances I'm down to the mid tier tool set as my main set. I've had pretty good luck with Apex's various tool lines. The Snap-on 1/4" universal joints are definitely compact. There is a big difference between the Stanley and Snap-on that I have. I use my 1/4" nut driver quite a bit and have used it as an extension.

Pure garbage, like most retail tools they are very low quality. Most of the Gearwrench stuff ends up in China. I had the 120xp 1/4 drive sets and they give you a pile of tools for the money. However, the sockets are no better than cheap harbor freight Pittsburgh and the ratchets are terrible when using with one hand in tight spaces. It just rotates and socket and nut back and forth and grinds and binds. Gearwrench are the worst ratchets I have ever used. Any vintage Mac Cornwell or Snap-on 30 tooth ratchet is better than brand new Gearwrench. And that makes the newer Snap-on 72 and dual 80 ratchets extremely better. But if you don't want to spend much money buy the Pittsburgh or Blue-Point or USA made vintage straight ratchets. If you don't hold that Gearwrench ratchet and socket at a perfect 90°, it doesn't function as expected. Put just a little sideways pressure on the socket and see what I mean.

@@JackDaniels-v6f That's why it's a cheap journey man set . I'm just not going to take a $1000 1/4" drive Snap on set out on the road . I mainly use these sets to supplement what's missing off the service truck . As I said in the video I don't like the ratchets and the 90T is better. Nice set of wrenches. I had some double box Matco wrenches. One end was non reversible ratcheting and the other end 15 degree offset box. The ratcheting mechanism was smooth. I purchased them in 2000. Since Matco doesn't manufacture their tools they rely on outside sources. In the 80s Bonney manufactured Matco's wrenches. When Bonney shut down Matco used Armstrong until they too shut down. When it comes time to warranty a Matco tool you never know what you will get in return. I think lot of Matco tools are now manufactured in Taiwan.

Thanks for taking the time to review the Tekton ratcheting wrenches. I was the viewer who asked your thoughts on the Snap-on. I too have thin boney fingers that I call "stubby sticks" and Snap-on wrenches always felt uncomfortable due to the narrow pointed beams. That's why I went with Mac combination wrenches. They had wider squared beams similar to the Tekton ratcheting wrenches. I'm also not a fan of the spline drive wrenches. I honestly prefer satin finish. It seems to provide a better grip when hands are oily. New Britain Machine manufactured wrenches had the rough satin finish.

@@autoteachr I know how to use the tester correctly the whole point of doing the video was to explain that the top don that I used was testing batteries repeatedly as good batteries when they were bad . By using other testers in the shop i showed that the top don is not as good as what it claims . It is possible that I got a bad machine or Chinese copy and I was not impressed with the top Don . Showing the amp draw from the battery test wouldn't have been a good comparison anyways because the top down measures resistance .
@autoteachr
@autoteachr 22 күн бұрын
@@kevinfrye1822 These are different technologies. The capacitive / conductance testers actually send an AC signal into the battery and analyze the result. The VAT is a load tester that draws massive current from the battery and measures it. I like the capacitive testers myself, since they can be used with a partially discharged battery, where a load tester cannot. That said, the results you got with the two testers are similar but one had a good and one had a bad conclusion on almost the same data. My customers like anything with a printout. I don't ever sell batteries to my customers, they don't want one. Instead, I sell the idea that their car will start on the coldest day. I can guarantee that if I know they have a healthy battery!
