looks like the Helmet did its job decently, and of course also the Blade. at least his head wouldn't get split, or would it?

the Japanese guy commented "It's not a traditional way of making it." well, I'll have to look that up, but it's cool you show how to make these. I might want to mod my saya to carry 2 small items on the sides, great video. thanks.

Forget Rembrand or Picasso, this is true art 🙏🏼 I’m lucky enough to own a real tamahagane katana. Nippon Nihonto forged. I’m always fascinated about the hada and hamon lines. A true art form by itself….

What is this Paper ?? Used as a grip ...??
@seikibrian86415 жыл бұрын
If you mean the bumpy, off-white stuff wrapped around the handle, it's ray skin, called "same" (sah-meh) in Japanese. The ray skin wrap is called "samegawa." The ray skin is glued to the base wood of the handle, and serves not only to hold the two-piece wood base together, but also to keep the final wrap of (usually) silk or cotton from moving during use. That final wrap is called "itomaki," and if the itomaki were used alone to hold the wood together the ito would slide around too much.

On the kissaki try a piece of old credit card. Spray the back with adhesive. It will make waterproof seal without damaging the polish. Then just peels off. The japanese use heavy plastic tape with the bamboo but i found this to work better. Cheers Right.
