I'm curious about your preference for the 11891 over the version with the close focus. Where would you stand if you were going to get your first Summilux to use on a digital M and SL2-s? Would you still choose the 11891 or go with the close focus? Essentially that's what I am trying to decide for myself, is the close focus worth spending the extra money on, even if it was just for occasional use? Thanks
@GastonShutters9 сағат бұрын
Here is the way I see it. If you want to have a single lens that is versatile and money and weight is not an issue the 2023 Lux is the way to go especially if it’s going to be used on an SL body. But for an M11 user that carry use the camera a lot the 11891 is an easier to carry lens and 0.7M is more than enough for my needs. Also if you do product photography or detail shots the 2023 may be a better option. But the 11891 can be had for less than half of the 2023. So that’s another thing to consider.

The 24-105 oss does adds stabilization to the A7C, which natively doesn't have very good stabilization. Buttt.... 1.Look how big that thing is, people buy the A7C and for it's small body. Pairing that adult sized lens with it ruins the aesthetic! Who wants to walk around hand held like that? Its not really practical. 2. It's better than nothing, handheld stabilization but not as rock steady as you can get it using Catalyst browse or Davinci Resolve.

@@GastonShutters Well, looking at this again the 24-105 does a nice job adding stabilization and it's not all that large. It's not exactly tiny either. 24-105mm seems good for a nice do it all zoom lens , but I would still prefer going the catalyst browse route to fix stabilization.

I’ve had this lens for around a year and agree 100% with your analysis. Originally I bought it to see if 35mm was my kind of focal length as it was about the same size as the Leica Summicron. 35mm is my kind of focal length but I can’t see any reason to buy any other 35mm lens, especially with its close focus and wide aperture. The only thing the lens is bad at is infrared photography - there is a very pronounced hot spot in the centre of the image at 780nm and above. Less so at 720nm. I wouldnt buy it if IR is a significant piece of your photography.

Awesome review as always man! I'm currently debating with myself, if I should replace my Nokton 1.4 VII with this one. Does this Nokton 35mm 1.5 has some kind of resistance, if you pass the 0.7m or does the focus ring goes totally smoothly through until 0.5m? Tried the 28mm Ultron which also has close focusing, but misses the resistance at 0.7m, which I find a bit of annoying - nothing dramatic, but would have to train muscle memory to the new circumstances. Doesn't come close, since the Voigtländer has an aparture of 1.5, but would you say it also rivals the 35mm Summicron F2?
@GastonShutters2 күн бұрын
It doesn’t have the detention but anyway you will be looking at the screen or VisoFlex once you pass 0.7. You also see the patch stop moving. Never find that an issue. In fact I wish I can remove that from my Leica Lens.

Why a camera with a relativly poor AF should be the KING? I am using Sony a7CR with 1.4 lenses und the AF sits precisely on the pupille, even people are moving. Q3 achieves this only sometimes.
@GastonShutters6 күн бұрын
I do not use af for street. Mainly manual mode, f11 and zone focus. That’s the beauty of this camera is the only modern camera I know with a true distance scale and operation like a mechanical manual lens.

Great review, provided some unique insights for me. Now that the dlux has officially hit the market, I'm curious that with the latest firmware update does it capture that distinctive 'Leica look' ? From what I've seen, sample shots have a rather plain color, not much more impressive than m43 from panasonic. The weak bokeh also seems to dilute the Leica look. I am worried it does not make much difference from other lower-priced counterparts, and I think by using a compact camera most of us may expect its straight out of camera results, especially for Leica(though dng is a good plus).
@GastonShutters6 күн бұрын
Glad you like it no don’t believe in the Leica look most people edit their picture. And I’m able to replicate the look or color of a camera in post. The one thing that has a signature is the optical Leica look of vintage lenses. But modern lenses it’s hard to tell between a 50 f1.4 Gmaster or a Summilux 50 f1.4 2023 for example.

You literally sayd a lot of wrong things.. firstable if you open everything is the same thing that if you leave close because this camera doesn't have a dissipation system. Second the image from 640 to 12800 is way noisier than 12800 to 102000. Third this is the proof that this kind of "overheating test" doesn't mean nothing. It may overheat and it may not. It depends from the situations. The only thing that is 100% sure is that the Sony Zve1,a6700, a7c ii,A7 iv and all the other cameras without cooling fan are suffering by overheat because they don't have a system to dissipate the heat. But, if you record in HD you can record unlimited time with every camera. 4k in Sony cameras are something you have but something you have to moderately use
