9:02, the gwr had proposed a 4-6-2 design by Frederick Hawksworth (Charles Collett’s successor) that was based after the kings, the great bear, and the lms princess royals (it should be noted that William Stanier and Frederick hawksworth were apprenticed contemptuously at Swenson before Stanier was hired by the lms in the 30s and may have been friends), but the proposed design was dropped. However, a railworks train simulator content website called Caledonia works made a model of this proposed gwr pacific, called cathedrals, as a what could have been had the gwr went with it.

@ShinGhidorah17Ай бұрын
So the only reason you don’t care for the restoration of NYC 3001 is simply because of its appearance? Are you serious? The locomotive’s performance matters more than its appearance. I believe it matters more if the locomotive is successful in operation, than how it looks. There are admittedly many locomotives that don’t look good to me, but I still absolutely love them because they were successful locomotives and performed amazingly. Function over Form. That’s the key. It’s literally what locomotives like the PRR S1 completely failed at. You said so, yourself. It looked cool but was absolutely terrible, performance wise.
@Jimboliah3985Ай бұрын
I'm not going to apologize for having an opinion on the engine's looks. Be glad I at least acknowledged that 3001 was in better shape than 2933, giving it the edge for being less expensive and time consuming to give it a rebuild.

@@Jimboliah3985 yes been voted vice president for a number or years at the officer elections, you have to understand he grew up his dad was active in the orginazation back then and his grandpa was superintendent or someone very high ranking of the belt harbor railroad by gary indiana his grandpa was one of the guys calling the shots back then, kelly was kind of born into it, as was I to an effect growing up in a railroad town, the highschool is called the railroaders, and used to be a shop town till 1926 as when they needed a spot for doing classified repairs for the trains west in ohio of the small region that was the chicago division at the time our city had the most recent built shops and they expanded those for taking on repairs, and had a 32 bay roundhous the largest I have found that was actually built by the b and o at the time one they didn't have that was from a railroad they absorbed, the roundhouse here was even bigger by 1 bay then the one in cumberland, though that was only for 1918 to 1933 when the additional bays were cut back off but we acording to local lore the last bastion of steam on the b and o till that faitful day in 1958 when the last revinue run with steam was a railfan trip from chicago to here here to willard and back, and suposedly was the last roundhouse to have a steamengine in it or thats what locals have said, I cant back that up with hard copy proof of it though, and there was soo much more that could have and should have been saved, trains were just kind of all around us here, and I had grandpas and great uncles as well as great great grandpas on both sides that worked for the railroad, a few were engineers, moms dad was the engineer for one of the presidents campaign trains as it came though, and grandpa went to take the slack out of the train and the bump knocked coffee over on the president he apologiesed when he found out and got to shake the presidents hand in chicago, it would have been maybe Truman or Eisenhower maybe I rode a trip in 2015 out of fort wayne with the nkp 765 going part of the walbash cannonball route, and a guy that was renting out two of the railcars for the train trip showed me a bunch of old airial photos satillite pictures and the sanborn maps and the bug bit later that year saw on the website they would like people with woodworking skills and I grew up around crafts so I signed up and been a member since maybe 2016 as for our operations and trips, you just never can tell who you might see in the shop or on the trains, met stephen hook the guy thats the head mechanical shop guy for the 576 nashvill engine both 2 years ago in the shop and he was at the ww2 weekend this year and a few of the guys from down there in tennesee came up with him to help out, last weekend for the nickleplate historical and technicle society we had a guest engineer, that grew up in conneuett, oh maybe your heard of Doyle McCormick, My eyes about came out of my head and the carhost I was talking to after I got done said he did a double take when he saw him, and on our trips we have all kinds of local heads of buisness from the region as well as politcians, once at one of our trips out of chicago a few years ago I think it were the number 2 in amtrak rode on the trip and you would not even know it was in buisness casual of sorts. and in the shop the course of the matter you might see gary bensman, or zach hall, often steve winniker, and at the openhouses you might even see rich melvin who used to be lead engineer, and of course oldest origional active member wayne york can often be found and often doing car hosting, as I say its a small world where we share members with other organizations. kelly for example works for fmw they are a one stop shop for railroad consulting and repair, and are working the k4 as well as helped redesign the boiler for being welded instead of riveted for the T1 trust

Okay, I have a few things to say about how unprofessional and weird this video was. First of all, there was nothing wrong with the New York Central plate on the smokebox. Many New York Central steam locomotives, including the J-1 to J-3a Hudsons, were made that way, that's part of their iconic looks. Second, I don't really know why there's a window behind the window on the left hand side of the locomotive's cab it likely has a reason, just research the design history. And third, it doesn't matter whether it's pronounced three-thousand-1 or thirty-O-one, I call it by both, and I do respect each and everyone's opinions, and the locomotive's numbering. I don't understand, you shouldn't be upset and so angry about some thing or some things that are just, trivial. This is the last and only time I say on that subject. But you have your opinion, and I have mine, it doesn't matter if you think others are wrong about it or not, everyone has an opinion, and opinions can be proven wrong with absolute truth. I don't press my opinions above truth.😒 Also, I am also excited for the 3001 as well! It's been so long awaited for such a long time. I've dotated already a few days ago and will again next month or so. 4.3 million dollars is a large undertaking, and I trust FWRHS with the task. They are just right for the job! 😄

1: *I* never liked that style of number plate. Lets just say that if I bought the engine instead of the FWRHS, that plate would be coming off immediately at the very least, and it's not coming back on. 2: Again, most likely because of an extra seat behind the fireman seat. But even then, I'd just have both sides have a big window. 3: As I relpied to somebody else, I think it's pretty much a rule that if you have a locomotive number that has a few numbers higher than a full thousand, it's pronounced something-thousand-something. Notes: 1. It's important to remember that 2933 is an L-2d. The New York Central L-1a to L-1d and L-2a to L-2d Classes were built for freight traffic, not counting two L-2ds, which were rebuilt for use in fast freight traffic. The L-3a to L-3c, L-4a, and L-4b Classes, meanwhile, were mixed-traffic locomotives. Note the Boxpok driving wheels, roller bearings, and lighter running gear. 2. An Elesco feedwater heater is not always a cylindrical shape. See, for example, on the Central of Georgia Railway K "Big Apple" Class 4-8-4s or on the Canadian Pacific G-5d Class.

@Jimboliah3985Ай бұрын
Forgot to specify "first in the US" to use the 4-6-4 wheel arrangement. But you are correct about the old name Baltic being outshined, because I call *every 4-6-4 a Hudson*, regardless if it's a tank engine or tender engine, American or from somewhere else. ;)

@@Jimboliah3985 And I like to refer to any non north american 4-6-4 as a baltic because I believe it fits better over on the European continent lol.
