Had the tandem island with the fins and electric motor and Jib . Amazing craft but not sure I would really call this a spinnaker and if they wanted really good benefit from it, by the way it's mounted, put the Jib/spinnaker out one side and the main sail off the other side to capture more of a tail wind providing more thrust and also balancing the boat

Given the point of sail I"m curious as to why you left the main up, it looks like the spinnaker is doing most of the work. Might not have over-driven your rudder control that way.

Hi Alastair, where would you attach a wind direction flag to a Adventure Island?

The video and comments are great however trying to read the text was really difficult because of the colour and size.

I used to have a tandem Island. I always wished I had bought the spinnaker kit, but I was too cheap. I would like to get a Windrider tri. They keep your butt drier.

It is a good sail to Peel. I did it on my Tandem Island in a 2 meter swell going and 3 meter swell coming back 20 to 30 knot winds. Fun times.

That was brilliant instructional. I learned from you more in a few minutes than form many sailors in a year. Thank you. BTW I'm not a slow sailor myself, but most of the time I sail in a flat waters.

I do 17kn-20kn on my Hobie 18’ and it looks a whole lot faster than this footage. Leads me to believe the reading in the corner screen wasn’t accurate. Cool video. Love the craft and rigging. I’ll stick to flying the hull half I’m hiking out on over sitting center seat. 👍

Hi Alistair, would you mind letting know what the compass/sounder setup is? It’s a bit hard to see in the video and its exactly what I would like to do. Thanks, Mark

That is awesome! Nice video. I am purchasing a used 2017 Adventure Island Tandem. I’m a novice, but would love to get one of the spinnaker kits. Thanks for the video.

I still say that it's a "gennaker";It's cut like a spinnaker, but it's flown like genoa; There's no pole to help spread the sail out when running downwind... Oh well, as long as it works; Good!

You mentioned the rear AKA bar come out accidently and capsizing your boat. I would have thought the diagonal brace on that bar would prevent that from happening ?

@therigloftmatthewotto47753 жыл бұрын
You could always use a continuous loop for the sheets period for Sheet management since you'll be feeding from one side as you're taking from the other you'll need less line on the deck

Hey Alistair, I see you don't have the suggested Hobie setup for your spinnaker. It looks like you are using Railblaza mounts or something similar for your lines on the akas. Have you had any issues running like that or would you recommend that type of setup. Would you do something different?

I have been doing a lot of research on the AI, and always come back to 'pointing ability'. I know in 2015 there were some design chances, hull shape and dagger board, I'm wondering how those changes might have helped? What is the windward tack pointing angles 45/45? With the spinnaker, knowing it is not for windward work, 60/60?
@borisp47862 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit late with my reply, I don't know if you're still looking into it. I own a newer model (2019) tandem island with the new at-the-time seat and pedal system. They're definitely not "pointing" boats. The best you'll get upwind is about 50ish degrees to the wind and I found that favoring speed at those angles was more enjoyable and probably as fast as trying to point to 40-45 degrees, like most multihulls you're better off trying and favor speed to angle.

I find my 2015 TI has too much sail in stronger winds. Constantly rounding up or overpowering the rudder. How do you overcome that?
@cichlidsglobal5604 жыл бұрын
Jeff A. Not sure if the TI’s already come with it but you can order a bigger rudder from hobie called the sailing rudder, its 39.99 and it has roughly 2x the surface area then the stock rudder
@madogblue4 жыл бұрын
@@cichlidsglobal560 Thanks I will look into it
@markodonoghue9526Ай бұрын
@cichlidsglobal560 Your kidding? Why the heck would it not come with a rudder big enough to sail with. That is just SO dumb of Hobie.
@anabisdally20474 жыл бұрын
This is a very nice setting. Thank you for sharing. My only question would be why mounting the cleats platform on a track? It seems that mounting it on the actual kayak surface would be more stable, and those are things that you wouldn’t be moving around at all.
@markybolton4 жыл бұрын
Which brings to me a question, how do you stop the boat? Do you put it in reverse with the paddle or pedal?
