oh man. Scary when that happens. But I can't believe I did a whole camping trip not noticing that one of my bungees weren't secured on my right outrigger. It was a good thing the wind was at my right when it fell apart.

Hi, Did you capsize? What happened after that?

+Gabriel Carneiro The Aka popped out, you can see it in the video. A power boat came along and flipped me over.

+Alistair Kelsall Do you think that if you were using the trampolines, the ama would close?
@AlistairKelsall8 жыл бұрын
no because I take the inside strap on the tramp and loop it around the elbow joint or knuckle. It would have held it in. The trade off in stronger conditions is the wind gets under the tramp and lifts the island up. But yes it would have stopped this completely.

Agree. Tramps would have helped. I had a similar close shave with my AI ... only a couple months old...had the AKA join pin ....drop out and into the Atlantic Ocean...to my complete surprise. Tramps helped me avoid an at sea capsize....pulled in the sail...limped back to port using the Mirage drive. I replaced he sheer bolts with stainless steel....a must for ocean sailing.

It really is time that this issue was officially addressed, if not fixed then at least a Notification in the Owner's Manual that this is a real possibility if safety lines are not added. Seems strange since Hobie, admirably, replaced all early model Rudder's after 2011 which were not potentially dangerous?

I agree, same with the sheer bolts, they are not going to stand up to the extra loads put on them by the Spinnakers.

Were you sailing up wind with the foresail?

hey man im so excited I'm about to make a jump from my native pedal drive to an island I really like this rig with that extra sail amazing. I just can't make up my mind for a single or tandem. I will be going mostly solo

That almost happened to me too. I did notice what was about to happen before it fully came out so I was able to avoid the disaster and got everything secured the way it is supposed to be. I got lucky, as well as my daughters who were with me at the time. Now we double check that they are all fully seated prior to launching . Did anything get broken on the Hobie? Looks like you had both the front and back come out. What happened, did something fail or was it just not seated very well?
