Fantastic work! Ive made a replica of the Dragon Slayer before out of wood, but its failure point would always be the connection between the blade and the handle. Ya got 1/2 the equation, nice job! While moving back a step or two, yank it back and up above your hip then push your hand down and then forward in an arc while then pushing up and forward while you THEN move forward. Pick up a normal weighted sword. Hold it out. Move the handle around quickly without guiding the pointing of the sword with your wrist. See how the point changes where it is despite you not using your wrist, but instead just moving the handle quickly. That's where you can really see what it means to push the fulcrum out. It's one of the keys to manipulating ultraswords faster and also plays into that method to get it up quick when its in front of you. Someone charges you when the sword is down, you step back and that brings it up to meet them. Another technique, not for picking up really, but for close ups, is just holding the handle straight up with the tip in front of you. Its kinda annoying to get around such a big object and you can move your body left while moving the handle right or body right while moving the handle left to play, but you should just transition immediately to charging your opponent down like a bulldozer. Its a 40lb sword so far, knocking someone down lets you just guillotine them from a mount with sometimes just the weight alone. No need to pull out your rondel and fish for an opening. Also you should be in plate, or rather full brigandine since we are men of the future. It makes those charges against you even more foolish. They have to get through your armor, which was incredible unlikely back in the day, thats what the wrestling and rondel was for. Suddenly the only intelligent way to fight you is bolas, ropes, kyoketsushoge, nets, kusarigama, meteor hammers, etc. As you can see, its all about either out ranging you with a high enough velocity / high enough momentum object to pierce your armor or binding you up. Glad to see you making some real progress today, keep it up. 👍

Heya, I actually made a third comment on your video "59 days training" that got flagged and deleted automatically for some reason. So I'll be reposting a quick rewritten thing that I said, as a sort of tip or perhaps something you might find interesting All the comment was about is that you could possibly put a little hole where the hand can fit in the middle to end of the blade at the spine. Basically creating a handlebar there and this way it would allow for various new possibilites of usage, blocking, recovery and attacking. It would be somewhat similar to how greatswords (or usually called Zweihanders) have a handle, then a crossguard then a dull blade part covered with leather and then another crossguard followed by the actual real and full blade (although the start of the final blade also used to be quite dulled). It was done for much better handling possibilities and even for making certain attacks more possible and incredibly powerful. Or make blocking a possibility too. You can hold it at the handle and at the dull part and do an incredibly powerful thrust just like a spear while not having to worry about the leverage being too great and pulling your point down and to the ground. Or simply grab it that way again and you're able to pull or put it up much faster and so you're "charged" and ready to do the first swing significantly faster. Also lastly what would definitely be useful is watching real people who use Zweihanders/Greatswords and practice with them. More or less their rules are about constantly keeping the exact same momentum, basically swinging it around in circles above you and the main purpose of the weapon was area denial and crowd control. You could definitely get official and historical techniques and tips that will turn you into an actual beast in a battle. (PS: I'd already be choosing you for the zombie apocalypse if it were to happen haha)
@haletheblacksmith3 күн бұрын
This idea is not bad... I think its definitely a good way to learn new moves for sure! I've looked into greatsword techniques however they are difficult to translate over. But perhaps this could help. Also, I appreciate the confidence in me, during the apocalypses.
@jakubpluhar49142 күн бұрын
@@haletheblacksmith I'd give you a 5 meter plank of wood and charge you into a horde. But I'd stay behind to wait for you because I'm confident you'll get out alive. And yeah, it does make sense that greatsword techniques are hard to translate over, the weight difference is massive and so it's not possible to expect such speed that greatswords achieve, it's a shame but you're right. I think one thing that can be immediately applied though is a hand and a half sized blunt, handle like part of the blade right above the crossguard

I’m a huge believer in following KZbin tutorials. Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel with your training, go watch some long sword tutorials and practice those. Heavier weapons aren’t really meant to be used with lots of explosive start-stop motions. Each strike should fluidly blend into the wind-up of the next strike. Either way, awesome job! Keep having fun!

I appreciate it. But this isn't really quite like long sword or great sword training. Although some techniques can be translated.

consider the following: when you're picking up the blade in that curling motion, you're putting all the lifting power into your arms and your lower back, which is going to start killing you. instead, perhaps try thinking of it like how an olympic deadlift is pulled into an overhead thrust, by pulling up on the weight and simultaniously dropping under it to catch it. i think you should do something similar with the sword, when it's firm into the ground, pull up and drop yourself under it, then stand from a squat. you should be able to do this with the point out and blade horizontal which will start you back into a solid optionalized position.
