Another thing that would be important to train is the legs. Specifically holding a passive guard while taking passing(stepping the rear leg passed the forward leg to cover ground quickly), gathering(Raising the forward leg & pushing forward with the rear leg to take short measured steps), & triangular(bringing the rear leg forward & forward leg back in an alternating pattern to take evasive lateral steps)steps. Doing so while shifting between guards would be the next step up from there. Good work so far. Happy training!

Ohohohoh okay! This sounds so difficult! But I'm gonna try it! My footwork definitely needs work and my legs could use strengthening. Thanks so much for the advice!

Right now conditioning the body for strength is over half the battle. I'd treat each little lift like a rep and go like you're at the gym. Get lots of protein.

Yeah! That's sorta the idea!

Hey, I'm going to copy over a comment that I just made on your day 47 because I didn't see that you made a new video, and because my points still stand. I also have some more advice, so there's that too: "If you tilt your hips forward and bring your shoulders back, you'd have better posture and control. Also, for your structure and balance, do not be afraid to widen your stances and perform more lateral steps as is proper in this circumstance. When you come back on that last plow after ox, you need to pop your waist and foot so as to have a better base for the rest of your body. The second plow you take is also much too crossed over for a resting stance, I'd recommend a lunging thrust to cover a stance correction, but I don't know if you can recover the sword. So, instead of recovering the sword, do not be afraid of dropping the tip and entering the Open Gate/Fool's Guard. Of course, I don't think using it like a longsword is the best thing to do. I suggest looking at Francesco Alfieri's La Spadone treatise and trying to emulate his four guards, as that is more suited to a blade of such magnitude." When you speak of wanting to be able to do the rules with both sides, I have to ask you this: would you rather be able to fight and win only with your dominant side, or would you like to have two equal sides? It is something my old instructor asked me, and its something I ask those I myself instruct. Do not over worry yourself on that right now, but instead seek proficiency in your dominant side firstly. I still think your sword is literally too long to be used as a longsword. Do not ever try and stop your Greatsword in its motion, but keep it moving always, as it is a momentum weapon. That joke spin you did with Zenghetsu in the first couple seconds of the video was great, and is what you should be aiming for with greatswords, ironically enough. A user of a greatsword, a Doppelsoldner, builds up his sword's momentum, and he never lets it stop until absolutely necessary. That is why longsword rules and greatsword rules are incompatible. Viedma's Greatsword treatise was specifically written for beginners with the weapon, and I recommend it to you with much confidence. The Barbaran Treatise is also good for beginners. Godinho is the next step. After him comes Morozzo and Alfieri. Lastly should you learn Figueyredo's Greatsword, as his is the greatest and most complex system. You are strong. Get stronger. You have talent, grow skill. Be great. You have that within you.

I can't express how grateful I am for your advice! This helps a lot, I'll look into your suggestions and see how I can incorporate them into my sword training! Your point on training my dominant side to perfection is a good one. However I train my nondominant specifically for muscle balance. As this is a big sword, I need to be equally strong throughout my body to avoid injury.

"Shikai Zangetsu is pretty light." - Hale, 2024 Keep up the good workouts! As FireDragon mentioned, make sure to eat protein, and building on DeusVultLurch's comment about doing some leg workouts too, make sure you focus on the core as well. Arms are what lift, but the core moves the arms and makes sure you don't collapse into the lift. You've got this brother, you're doing great!

Thanks so much for the advice. I'm definitely trying to workout the full body more, so we'll see how we progress! And yeah 8.7k is crazy!!!!

Idk if this goes against the spirit of it, but have thought of putting a pomel to shift the center of mas to a better place?

I've thought of it... but I'm probably gonna keep it the same and make another sword with a better balance

Looks like the weight of one of the Golden Age swords, but still neat! Hell of a workout! If you think I'm nitpicking, Dragon Slayer is 300lbs.

Trust me I know the Dragon Slayer is actually unholy heavy. My goal when building this sword was to have it resemble the Dragon Slayer. But it's weight be just beyond reasonable, so I have something to strive for.

Pretty cool, but please stop calling is shikai Zangetsu. 😂 Please. Just call it Zangetsu 😊 Question, are you worried about potentially injuring yourself because of the massive weight focused on a small part of your body?

Lol my bad, and not too worried. I just have to be careful!
