As an OBR player, I am glad everyone else is now playing how we used to; pretty fun and everyone seems to enjoy it a lot! I wish I could also play 3.0 like them, or at least continue to play 2.0 as it was. The FAQ rubs salt in the wound by giving extra RDP and then clarifies that indeed one cannot spend them as you'd expect <how scrolls were written and pointed>. I would love FAQ#2 to allow either that OBR can use more than one CA per phase or can use more than one CA on a unit. Give us something, start small if a return to design is <for some reason> impossible...please?

Posted too soon - I am 0W/9L so far and have been playing OBR since day one. I recently switched up all kinds of lists and just can't find my stride with the current limitations on functionality. Best bet on Nagash and hope to outplay your opponent and get lucky VPs. So far, but still all losses this season.

Addendum; there is a use for the Vanari Bannerblade, if you are willing to give up a unit of troops to take him. Park him in the Shrine Luminor and let him give out free commands and +1 Bravery to any unit wholly w/i 18". Not bad for 120 points, and this frees up your Cathallar to stay close to your troops.

@@grimmhammerfist5174 My only problem with the Ironjawz is that their unit range is boring. They have three non-hero units! If I were an Ironjawz player I would be pissed about that. So this is what I meant that the Kruelboyz have more character. More units, the units don't just look like faceless goons, and they have a good selection of units to fill different roles in the army.

To be honest, it is only the Ardboys I really don't care for. For the other units, it's just that there are too few to chose from.

Well, unfortunately, we just got confirmation that the shooting phase is not seeing any major changes. Our hope will have to lie in other areas, like hero rules, terrain rules, and/or possibly the reactive command abilities.

well but the values of skins really really changes with the buffs they get because 40 skinks shooting mortals wounds in your face at every 6 really hurts! :D it's def. a lot more than 1 MW :D

Yeah, the 40 skink blob can be pretty intimidating, but on average they are only going to do 4 or 5 MW with their shooting. Then if they get lucky on a charge, they might be able to do that again in the combat phase. They are also likely only to be able to do this once, as they have likely teleported away from the Star Priest, so won't be able to do it again the next turn, if they survive. Not saying they can't be made quite powerful, but they can be manageable.

I didn't really feel like the rumor engine really gave any good clues. I certainly hope what they showed doesn't belong to a shadow elf army, because those images just wouldn't fit. They had a very Grot kind of vibe, so I definitely feel it will be some sort of swamp based, unique and new army. Hopefully we will learn tomorrow.

While this may sound like a good idea, this would create a huge imbalance between elite armies that don't have cheap screening units and less elite armies that can throw a ton of bodies in front of your missile troops to render them essentially useless. 5 Judicators aren't going to be worth 160 points if they spend the whole game trying to chew throw 20 grots (120 points).

Nice review. Though I’m assuming you’ve caught most of the points below since you’ve had more time with the book, I figured I’d point them out for listeners who might not have access: - the Battleshock Command Ability currently lists Collegiate Arcane as targets for ignoring Battleshock, but none of the existing units will ever have to take the test since they’re all one model. So either this is an oversight, or they’re future-proofing it for an upcoming Collegiate Arcane troop type. - the Command Traits here are literally the only perks of Settler’s Gain useable by non-Collegiate Arcane Heroes (well, and the one Hysh Artefact for a Freeguild General). This includes the Lumineth 1:4’s, the Stormcast units, and any Cities units not in Collegiate Arcane. This is a real bummer, but I suppose at least we can give the one Command Trait to whomever. - Furthermore, the Spell Lore only being available to Collegiate Arcane is a real blow, as Lumineth have multiple great options for Wizards but are now left with only their Warscroll spells, the Realm spell, and any Endless Spells you take. This particularly nerfs multicasters (especially Teclis). - while Talisman of Dispellation is clearly inferior to Silver-Plated Wand, if you get two Artefacts, it’s not bad as a second choice. - the Battalion Box unfortunately doesn’t come with a loose Battlemage per se, but rather, just the one from the Luminark that you were saying wouldn’t be riding it. You can still however build the Hurricanum with a magnetized Battlemage if you want two on the ground. A shame that the Battalion didn’t let you choose whether or not the two buffwagons could have a Battlemage or not, but I still dig it, as Cities Battalions go. Don’t forget also that Settler’s Gain implicitly has access to the Lumineth Battalions, and considering many of them can be 4 drops or less, this is totally viable. - finally, the Runelord only grants a 6+ ward save, not a 5+, but still, that just means the city has a lot of ways to hand these out. Ultimately, I’m a bit bummed with the city, but that’s mostly due to the fact that so few of your Heroes can get the majority of the buffs. That said, between Lyrior, the twins, an Adjutant, and Strategic Mastermind, this army might be capable of more reliable CP generation than any other (especially in Cities). Really glad that unlike Har Kuron we got to keep not only all of the rest of the Cities units, but also the basic Cities Allegiance Abilities (including Empowered Spells, Stormcast, and Adjutant/Retinue). Much better upgrade in my opinion.

I'd be worried fielding that lumineth list in an actual tournament. You can autowin alot of matchups by just deleting characters, but if any bad missions or matchups hit you're gonna be in trouble. Morathi isnt gonna die for one thing, Idoneth still exist, null deploy, etc. 4 round tourney you'll probably be fine but any event longer than that increases your chances to lose significantly. I feel like the Teclis lists have just as solid matchups without the same weaknesses

I think AoS's targeting rules are simply too generous. I didn't play at the start of this edition, but it seems like all of these ranged powerhouses showed up in the later half of it's lifetime and the rules they made for at release shooting couldn't handle it.

If they cast the teleport spell during the hero phase does that mean that unit can perform a normal move in the movement phase?

The spell states that the unit cannot move in the next movement phase so basically they are a sitting target if you put them at 9". I'm thinking that teleporting in something that can shoot (windchargers maybe) models hiding etc (and you need your sentinels to shoot something else).

Alternatively, consider teleporting Avelenor in to support your Lorekeeper or Severith, handing out a -1 to hit for those engaging these other models, even if you fail your charge. Oh, and a decent ranged attack in the mix as well.

I love the Lumineth! But I love my Bonereapers as well, even if they are going to get stomped in the shooting meta. I'm hoping that the Underworlds Mortek Archer for the Bonereaper warband is herald of something to come in the future.

It really depends on how you want to build your army. It used to be that you never took Melusai because they just weren't worth their points. I believe that has changed in the new book. I think you are generally going to want one big block of 30 Witch Aelves as your hammer. I'd probably support those with a unit of 5 or 10 of the Melusai archers. I also love the Khinarai Heartseekers (? - the ranged ones). I think they are super good at dropping in, dealing a decent amount of ranged damage, and then fading away.

Yeah, the Witch Hunters do look sweet. I hope they have good rules. It looks like they will be Cities of Sigmar models, but I'd like to see them get the rule like Ellania and Elathor, where they can be included in any Order army.

The windmage spell is good in shooting lists. It lets you apply the damage during the shooting phase. So as soon as one of your units drops their target down to 1/2 wounds, you can hit them with the spell instead of wasting all the attacks from another unit. If you’re using something like the teleport spell in the wind lore, I could see you not using that every round and instead using this built in spell. Haven’t played with it yet but I think it’s a really cool idea.

Noob question here; what is the problem with having "Ymetrica" as a keyword on Uthralle? What are the drawbacks? He cant be in a Syar army for example?

If a character has a sub-faction keyword assigned, they can't be given another. That doesn't mean they can't be included in another sub-faction list (like Syar for example), but they don't benefit from any of the Syar allegiance abilities. And, since all of the Ymetrica abilities are focused on Alarith units, all these other, non-Alarith, units gain no ability for being from Ymetrica.

I know this is quite late, and you've probably been made aware or figured out yourself, but the command ability for illiatha is different to volley fire/all out attack in that it doesn't have a range requirement to a hero, so theres far more flexibility in distributing it across your battle lines.

That is true, and a cool perk, but hardly going to raise that nation up much based on that. None of the great nations are bad, and I would certainly take that great nation before taking none, but it still falls near the bottom of the list. If this were an army more like Seraphon where command points were easier to come by, that would be a much better ability.

Thank you for the feedback. To be honest, not sure why the aspect ratio is messed up. This video was put together in the same manner as all of our other videos, but this is the only one that has the messed up ratio. We'll be investigating this and trying to get it fixed for the next video.

Nice review! No Sevireth though? I guess if you wanted to pair him with the non-Hero version in your Hurakan video, then that makes sense. Also, what’re your thoughts on the Loreseeker being labeled as Unique in the Pitched Battle profile but not on the Warscroll? Which way do you think they’ll errata it? I’m def of the opinion that he wasn’t meant to be unique, but I can see why people would be worried about multiples of him on the board. In that case, they ought to give him a more customized name.

Yes, Severith will definitely be coming when I talk about the Hurakan. Sneak preview, he is amazing! I don't usually say this about high point cost models in the 300 point range, but he is worth every point! I missed the unique designator on the pitched battle profile, but to be honest, it makes sense; lore and game-play-wise. Being able to field multiple of these could be bonkers good.

For the calligrave there seems to be a lot of confusion about his erasure spell but as I read it he can either do d3 wounds which can be saved with a regular save but the d6 is mortal wounds and as such bypass the regular save. Still not sure which is better though... With the Lord regent I think casting his spell first can potentially free up your close by units to use other spells or if the regent fails still try their power spell. I think putting a windmage as the garrison in the shrine with the spell supporting the ranged attacks (+1 to hit) with a big unit of sentinels or using the hawks with the ballistas make an interesting option. So glad to see the loreseeker at the end as I think it is a fantastic unit with so many cool ways of playing him.

Interesting lack of “mortal” used with the D3 option for the Calligrave. Pretty sure we’ve never seen that before, and even more sure we’ve never seen a spell’s damage be eligible for a normal saving throw, but who knows... 🤷🏻♂️

Okay, so yeah, I missed that the Calligrave's spell does D3 wounds, not mortal wounds. This could be a mistake and will get FAQ'd, or it makes the spell even worse than I thought. Good thinking on the Lord Regent, but I still think he will be in relatively few competitive lists. Finally, the Windmage in the shrine could be good, but then you limit his mobility with that 16" flying movement.

The Vanari general has some other interesting abilities according to the warscroll on the GW site like the "greater power of hysh" (D3 units automatically get power of hysh on sunmetal weapons). The windchargers look great for jumping units to get to hero's or objectives.

Shooting in AoS needs to be taken out behind the shed and hit with a shovel, then bury it deep. I love the suggestion of not being able to shoot a unit that is engaged with another unit. I also think there should be a penalty to shoot while your involved in melee combat. Thematically archers and ranged units make sense in AoS, they should just be punished if you don't screen them well.
