I bought the clara color yesterday and have the brightness on 4% works perfect and love the colors in my library and highlights❤

KOBO BW by far. The lightness of the background, the crispness of the screen, the sharp text, the black and bold fonts. It just pops out and it’s easier on the eyes. This is really a no-brainer when reading text. Sure if you’re into comics, manga then color might work better for you, otherwise 99% of the time BW eReader.

I was able to compare them in Chapters store. The crispness of Clara BW texts are amazing to look at but Kobo Colour is not that far off

I'd argue the BW is better for manga. Only a few pages (like the cover) in a manga will have color. 99% of a manga is black & white. And the higher resolution and contrast would be better for viewing colorless pages. But I've gotta admit that I love the finish of the colors in the other model. The matte/pastel appearance almost makes the image look drawn on the screen. It's very cool. But I'm glad I chose the BW because I'll be looking at colorless text 99% of my time using it so I'd rather that look better.

I want to read manga, I don't care if it's all in black and white, I wonder if it will be worth it for that besides reading conventional books.

Glad I bought the BW! When u had a closeup side-by-side in dark mode, the letters were noticeably crisper on the BW.
@RowleyFan27 ай бұрын
Thank you for this comparison! I'm not gonna lie, color is reaaaally nice and I agree it's a bit of a bummer to not be able to see the covers in color... But I probs still get the BW because most of the time I'll be reading text. I think the new Carta 1300 will be better than the Kaleido screen for now.

I got a clara colour and I always felt like I had to justify why the display was like that. In the beginning, the graininess was shocking. But for a brief period I didn't mind it. But the letters seemed grayish or just not vibrant, and not popping out. I felt like I was getting a slight headache? I don't know if it was only my imagination. I just felt like I was continuously trying to make excuses for the colour display.

Thank you for saying this! I have a Kobo Sage and I wanted to try the color (for comics and bc the Sage is too big to be portable) And I cannot get over how grainy the screen is. Like I understood it would be less crisp when I bought it, but I'm like "it can't be this bad. Maybe mine is defective" The screen looks worse in person than in this video

I've just bought the Clara colour but coming from the Libre 2, I just cant stand the grainy screen. I'm going to return it and swap it for tge Clara b&w. The libre 2 is lovely, but I dont like the asymmetrical design.

I know it's probably harder for you to get your hands on these devices but I'd be interested how the new Kobo colour devices Clara Colour and Libra Colour compare to the Tolino lineup that is obviously based on them. Tolino Shine Color and Tolino Vision Color. In Germany these are often a good default pick because public libraries work out of the box with these but _not_ with the Kobos :/ Sadly, because I think the Kobo software is a bit better than the Tolino software we get.

I think o the dual core might be faster for loading books, but not for turning pages because it has to deal with 2x the pixels, a set for the E-ink screen and a set for the filter layer.

I stick with Kobo Clara BW. I don't need color at all as I am only reading novels and no comics or whatever.

How fast are the Clara's at typing like when doing a search? (I know it won't be SUPER fast, but I'm hoping that the 1300's are an improvement over a much older ereader.)

Does the Kobo colour model require registration via Wi-Fi before it can be used to read anything, even E-books already owned by the user?

Yes. In my case, wifi connect then log in.

There’s a feature that’s been dubbed side-load mode that allows you to bypass login but I don’t remember the specific limitations it has off the top of my head.

Thank you for such a detailed video review. I have been planning to buy a ereader for a long time. Before that, I wanted to buy a Kobo Libra 2 because the screen is very nice and almost similar to a paper book (I choose Kobo because of their screen too). I don't know, between the screen of Kobo Clara B&W and Kobo Libra 2, in terms of display screen, which one will be more like a paper book and more comfortable for the eyes? Thank you.
@TheeBookReader6 ай бұрын
The screens are so similar you're really not going to notice a difference between then unless you have them side-by-side with the same settings. Both are very good, but blacks are just a little bit darker on the Libra 2's screen.

Thanks for answering me, I will probably still buy Libra 2 as originally intended!

I currently have a b&w libre 2 but find it too big so want to upgrade to the colour Clara. Your review shows a yellow tinge to the coloured screen, which will suit me just fine because I always read in yellow, find it easier on my eyes, no matter what time of day.

Easily my two biggest issues of the 3 Kindles I've had lover the last decade or more is (1) black and white covers in my Library makes it uninspiring and hard to find books and(2) sluggish screen response. I expected that would get better over the years but it's still awful on the latest models. These Kobos are no better. I would happily have half the battery life for double the speed of screen response. Even 50% better screen response. It's kind of ok when you're reading page to page but navigating the devices, the are all terrible.

I've spent over 20 hours reading 5 books on my Libra Colour so far and I have no regrets. The color filter does not bother me when reading and I would find it very difficult to use a BW e-reader after experiencing color covers, menus, and illustrated content.
@laquishab26057 ай бұрын
I think it really comes down to where and when you’re reading. The colour would be easier on the eyes when you’re reading at night, as you’re supposed to reduce blue light before bedtime. But, if you’re reading mostly in the daytime with a lot of natural light or outdoors on the go, the BW would definitely be a better option in that environment.
