Awesome video - again - thank you! Question - don't you have AHC/Adjustable suspension? For ride quality on rutted roads - "comfort" makes you float over ruts. :)
@realneilsadventures3 күн бұрын
No, when I got my 2 inch suspension lift, if I was going to get adjustable suspension the vehicle would have had to be recertified. The cost wasn't worth it.

Have done the road afew times, once with horses and waggons when we took nearlt 3 days Hanmer to St Arnaud. Long before This road was put in, in the early days of nz settlement this was used as a sheep droving route from nelson to Canterbury. That is why the cob cottages werebuilt in the 1800s.

We have a stock 2001 100 series LC on AT's with AHC - it was in immaculate condition when we brought it a few years back, but I have finally gotten past the 'first scratch' phase. It was so clean it was hard to use it for what it was designed for! Kind of defeated the purpose for a while... We drove this track alone in the same direction as you guys around a year ago - it really highlighted to me how awesome Toyota's traction control system is. The next time you guys are in the Nelson area drop me a note, I'd love to hook up and go for a drive. We have recovery points front and rear and a bag full of rated recovery gear - that is, to my shame - still shiny. Nice video - thank you! :)
@realneilsadventures25 күн бұрын
The traction control has let me change my driving style, less forward momentum into the hazard. Have you joined the Nelson club?

Sorry Neil - just saw this. I have been to their monthly club meeting but now face the issue of their trips being mostly on weekdays - and as a working couple, that doesn't work for us. Sucks - they seemed like an awesome group of people but for those of us not yet retired, bailing on work every Thursday just isn't an option. I wish it was different...

You can see mount egmont, down to the Lewis pass, over towards westport etc etc from up there on a clear day. I boiled the brakes on my honda CR250 going back down, 2/3 of the way down the pedal went dead. A guy with us in a SXS got back to the locked gate and his brakes were smoking like a coal train too. Same trip we went up there loaded with kids on the tray of the old man's 4x4 hilux circa 1984, that was pretty new at the time too. Fellow Surf owner here, how do you reckon the Fortuner compares? Modern equivalent? Another great video by the way. Love this stuff.
@realneilsadventures2 ай бұрын
Ground clearance was a little better in the Surf, there is some low hanging suspension swing arms on the Fortuner the Surf didn't have. That must make the on the road ride better. Cost of maintenance was getting up there on the Surf. The traction control is great, rear diff lock too. The cameras help both off road and car parks etc. Active cruise control and the extra safety features plus the automatic make the Fortuner a must for me with it being my daily driver. Sorted the front plastic with the bull bar as I wanted a winch. Don't know about the rear plastic yet, I have pop it out on one side 3 times now.
