I've seen all his documentaries, and every time I watch one, I notice he looks older, but he's still out there doing what he loves, even though he mentioned retiring. He’s lost a lot of friends and colleagues, and at one point, he said he was tired of all the funerals he’s been to, wondering why he’s still around when he thought he’d be the first to go. It really hit me-he seems so alone with all his loved ones gone. I really hope he finally retires and gets to just chill for the rest of his life. Even though knowing him, its impossible.
is it ok to ban this dude, i mean he should be banned from ever speaking to a child after what he did cancel miyozaki

He just didn't want to hurt his son again as he did when Tales from the Earthsea premiered. Ponyo was his apology to Goro. I guess he finally values his family more than his opinions. He knows the movie sucks, but this time instead of insulting his son, he just came back from retirement (again) and made The Boy and the Heron 😂

17:54 Fun fact Actually ,he has a special ability,he can draw accurately what he observed once. One day he sketched drafts of spirted away,he draw some buildings which he visited on a company trip few years ago. Then his producer Suzuki saw them and he was so surprised because his sketch was completely correct even the number of pillar. Even though Miyazaki never took photos,he remembered everything.

the style of it isnt what i was bothered about, it was the story. throughout the entire movie it just felt like the beginning and i was waiting for things to actually happen.
Goro has so much to learn about animation, but he needs to know that he's not his father. He has his own creative direction and imagination. And people need to stop expecting Goro to be like his father.

He was talking about Earwig here which was a disaster.

I think this is the only interview since 2016 or so? I really liked the part "Once I retired, I started to walk around and my health improved, so I felt I could work again." (or something along those lines) Maybe he was overburdened and his mind and body just needed a hiatus, but his old skills and experience wanted to create once more. I read that even after The Boy and The Heron he started working on something new?

I'm glad he still returned. The work is amazing once again with The Boy and The Heron.
Whatever his flaws are as a parent and a boss, I like to think Miyazaki is at least generous enough to let his son find his own sensibility instead of imitating him.
