Part of the reason why he stepped out of retirement to make this movie was make a "goodbye gift" for his grandson. My soul will be crushed if he doesn't make it to the end.

I keep thinking about that too, especially with the shit spreading across the world right now I would sincerely grant some of my years to him so he can finsih it, maybe for selfish reasons so I can watch it, maybe so he can complete that gift but either way, I will (or want to) do this by focusing on my own goals, and working hard on myself even if it is 1 minute per month (albeit, on a different scale)

I don't know why, but once i saw Miyazakai in his little apron, I just thought how cute he was and he reminded me of one of the elderly characters from his film and I started to tear up for some reason. It's really weird, but once I saw him as this old, yet powerful and wise man, I just found it so amazing that he came out of retirement to continue his master craft. I'm not even a diehard fan either, but I definitely respect his work. That's not say that Spirted Away is not my favorite film(who's isn't it), but I was just so happy to see him.

@@Balthazar2242 I'm honestly of the opinion that Spirited Away is overrated. But, at the same time, I feel I don't quite understand it. Perhaps I'm overthinking it. What causes you to say Spirited Away is the best film? What makes it so great? Is it relative, universal? What's your analysis? My favorites are Howl, Mononoke and Whisper (altho it's not entirely Miyazaki).
@Balthazar2242
@Balthazar2242 4 жыл бұрын
@@grampalettuce6730This is like the question I dialy wish prople would ask me 😆. Spirited Away is Miyazaki's magnum opus. It represents the very best of all he stands for. It is not only a technical and artistic achievement, but his best story as well. The story combines the focus and drive of Western storytelling (think Alice in Wonderland) with his own brand of Eastern storytelling (slower, more thoughtful). In other words, it has the simplicity and focus to have a coherent story (unlike so many Japanese films, Ghibli included) while also managing to retain that special brand of Eastern style that makes it feel like Ghibli. Visually it is perfect, audibly it is perfect, symbolically it is perfect. In every facet this film is closest to perfect that I've ever seen. I have watched it probably 20 times and have barely seen a seam or wrinkle. Even the English dub is phenomenal. I have a sense when I watch films that I think of as this "monitor" of how engaged I really am. In most films I only fully "lean in" at a few parts here and there. In Spirited Away I was maximally engaged for the entire runtime. I could go on and on.

I don’t know what will happen to Studio Ghibli after he has completed this new film. The great thing about Studio Ghibli is that it’s never about “how many movies can we make”, “how long can the company go”, and “what can we do next that everyone will love”. It’s never been about that. It’s always been something so much deeper that I myself can’t see as much as I try to with all these “Making of” documentaries from the decades of Studio Ghibli.

Don´t worry! Just focus on the message and the entire way it´s presented. That´s the key to get why they do what they do. Japanese artists have a very specific way of working. People like Miyazaki will die in his desk if it´s needed to complete a movie. The NHK documental "10 years with Miyazaki" it´s very clarifying about the topic.

@BigChiken44
@BigChiken44 3 жыл бұрын
@@RayManiac90 don't worry, a lot of project turn into shit EXACTLY because producers do give freedom to directors. Star Wars, for example. First trilogy was so nice, because producers kept punishing George Lucas, kept him on track and telling him to delete or add some scenes/dialogs. And prequels were complete garbge exactly because producers believed that they should give Lucas freedom to create. Producers are important part of the process. Also they count money, they have to limit directors to make movies possible from the financial point. With Myazaki it's unique situation, he and studio don't care about next movies after this one, because there will be no one.
@BigChiken44
@BigChiken44 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, why other producers don't do that?.. Wait, may be it's because they don't have unlimited time and money, huh? Also, in general producers have to limit directors in creative ways, because so many movies were ruined because "a director made one successful movie, so producers decided to give him complete freedom for his next movie, and the next movie became garbgae because director had freedom". Wachovski brothers made The Matrix - amazing, got freedom - Matrix 2 and 3 are garbgae. George Lucas made original Star Wars - pretty nice, got freedom - prequels are garbage. Reedly Scott - made Alien - amazing. Got freedom - we got Prometheus. Directors are pretentious, they don't understand why people like their movies. Directors ate pretentious, they have to be limited. Miyazaki is a very unique case

James Balmer Wow reading this made me tear up... I’ve read that his relationship with Goro hasn’t always been amazing so to hear that he has such a close relationship to his grandson is awesome. Ghibli films were just as formative to my childhood as Disney was... I’m just concerned that once the old guard has gone and passed Ghibli will fall apart... As much as i’m looking forward to this film the finality it carries with it has made me uneasy about the company’s future.

"Mr. Miyazaki, I will be waiting for your new film forever". I feel the same. No matter how long it takes, I will be so happy when it finally comes out. There's such magic and love and timelessness to these films, that I'm sure I'll adore this one as well.

Im watching this interview with Howl's Moving Castle in another tab and I just can't imagine not having this man in my life. All his movies have impacted me so much and the lives of those that enjoy his movies as well. I hope he continues to put his heart and soul into his project, and continues to love/work on his creations.

I find Mr. Miyazaki so inspiring! His work is every bit meticulously reviewed and made with the image he has in mind, and you will never see a manga, anime, or movie with his style and finesse, it is every bit unique and of the studio ghibli team! I want to make something like that. I do not draw, but I will find my medium, because I have my own knowledge to share with the world

Edison failed at parenting. Because I couldn't control my heat. But thanks to that we have the light. Genius is a kind of disability. Art is the only form of communication for people who have special talents but are social misfits. He demands the same passion and talent from those who step into the world of art and stand on the same scene as him. No one will be able to stand it. Knowing this, neither Miyazaki nor his wife wanted Goro to become an animator. Because just as genius knows genius, he can also distinguish people who don't have it. But Goro became an animator.
