That is quite an advanced usage. There is no exact equivalent in English, but in a simple comparison, it is somewhat similar to using "DID" to confirm something happened in the past: Dia ada cakap yang... = He did say/mention that... Suzy ada telefon awak? = Did Suzy call you? Tim ada datang semalam. = Tim did come/drop by yesterday.

in spoken Malay, it is sometimes omitted because "pergi" is already associated with moving towards a direction/place. You can compare via the english sentences: She went there... vs She went over there... Both have similar meanings with or without "over".
