Hi cikgu again if I wanted to say before things were cheap but now they are expensive is like Dulu barang barang murah, sekarang barang mahal, in this case this before is similar to the expressions in the past or previously, sounds fool but I just want to make sure..terimah kasih

if before is used to refer to the past, then yes, we use dulu. other than that, before = sebelum. We had this in an older video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ_GZneYZpmNpdE You can also say: Before this, things were cheap. Sebelum ni, barang murah.

So is this formal or informal? Shouldn't it be something like "saya yang pertama sekali yang pilih topi ini" if it's formal and if it's informal it would be this simple sentence that can be misunderstood in so many ways? I'm sorry but at this point I'm so annoyed by difference of what people speak and what the actual language is, it's horrible. I don't understand anyone here in Malaysia if I learn the correct language and if I learn the street slang I feel stupid as soon as I meet an educated person. 😤😮‍💨😣💀

we try to keep it more casual/conversational here. If the word or sentence is formal, we will mention it is formal. "saya yang pertama sekali..." can be both conversational and formal, when you want to say "I was the first to..."
