I have a problem with my horse Dallas he likes to be really stiff around the second barrel and only does it at a trot and is super slow towards the first barrel any tips ?
@maddythebarrelracer63224 жыл бұрын
hi, you should try using one barrel and focusing on that one problem. if you set up the patern and focus on the second barrel and stat walking around the barrel wide and keep getting closer and closer then do the same thing with a trot and lope. then run the pattern see if it works if not then keep doing it for a couple of days. I really hopes this helps!

I have to do this, poles, & keyhole at a horse shoiw at the end of September (‘18), and only have about a month to practice. It’ll be my first time ever competing in anything, & I’M SCARED SHITLESS LOL. These men & women go sooo fast. I respect them so much. I’m not entering the show to win, I’m entering to make my Dad, brother, other friends and family, my amazing instructor, & most importantly, make *myself proud*. Even if I totally mess up, it’ll make for a great experience. Wish me luck! I start training next week & then the show is the last Saturday of September. Eeeek!!!

Is it true that if the rider is more balanced the horse will perform better when it doesn't have to compensate for an unbalanced rider?
@klane.equine91895 жыл бұрын
Yes. Cause if you ain't balanced the horse isn't balanced. Your heavier side is pushing the horse that way causing them not being balanced and all.

I may not be American or a western rider... But I think (my opinion) western rider's are cheating because of the western saddle.. as a English rider, it's a lot more harder than you think it is.. keeping our balance is a lot of work.. I don't know how westerns ride, but I do know that you just "squeeze" the horses and dangle your leg beside the saddle.. while the horse is doing all the work - Please correct me if I'm wrong
@hol67116 жыл бұрын
Amelia Mysterywave very wrong 😂 western is harder than a lot of people think...
@sissydillon34486 жыл бұрын
That statement is far from correct- as you can see on my channel, I do jumping and rodeo and they are both very hard in they’re own ways

Sis western is so hard. It's worse falling off from a western saddle because if you hit yourself on the horn your done. Also trying to turn the horse so tight is very hard. Every horse riding sport is hard. Plz dont assume if you dont know anything about western

Do you have any tips on how to work with begginer barrel racers?
@salithompson32276 жыл бұрын
the first bay horse needs a lighter bit. he shouldn't be tossing his head like this. it means hes bitted up too much and your hands are too rough. every bit works differently in different hands. y'all also need to learn to use more leg. I saw little to no leg movement going into your barrels. your turns on the back side were wide, bc y'all are just pulling on your horses mouths and it not enough to set their body up in the right position to turn. they all came in too close on all their barrels and had to leave wide. using your inside leg when going into a barrel helps pop their ribs out to make a nice round turn and using that outside leg leaving your barrel helps your horse move their body around it for a tighter turn. the bay in the beginning in particular is too bendy in the neck. he turns with his head instead of his body which is why hes fighting and turning wide. again, using your legs would help him out tremendously. you also need to learn to SIT at your barrel. he goes wide because you aren't setting him up correctly but youre also not planting your butt.
@erinrodda19886 жыл бұрын
Sali Thompson she also needs to slide her hands down the reins farther. She goes to turn him and the ends up pulling on the outside reins and basically neck reining him. That’s part of the head tossing problem.
@bokuto_is_bipolar_af2876 жыл бұрын
Oh shut up she can do that any day
@NFRDreamers6 жыл бұрын
Sali Thompson The bay mare actually didn't have a bit at all. I ran her in a hackamore which requires more pressure when we're running at high speeds. She was never much of a barrel horse and I actually sold her so she's a rope horse again, like she was when I got her.
@TH-qy2li5 жыл бұрын
why do you think they need your opinion? i'm sure they have their own trainer and no need for a youtube trainer. find a better use of your time hun

why do people always hold onto their horn?! they should have enough balance to stay in the saddle without the horn!
@NFRDreamers6 жыл бұрын
Layla Templeton Regardless of your riding skill it is beneficial in barrel Racing to hold your saddle horn, especially at high speeds. Even the best of the best at the NFR use their saddle horn. Anything to help your horse out and stay off their head can make your times faster.
@taylorgilmore8536 жыл бұрын
Centripetal force is pulling you out and away from your horse when you turn the barrel so holding onto the horn, even for that split second where you are making your turn helps you to keep your seat and keep you out of your horses way. You're actually pushing against the horn to help yourself lean back, not just clutching it for dear life.
@kay39636 жыл бұрын
That is exactly why I’m learning English before western, so that I learn my balance without having anything to quickly grab onto, like when I loose a stirrup I loose balance and regain it by finding it...
@rodeocowgirly6 жыл бұрын
This had absolutely nothing to do with balance. This is force. Regardless if you have great balance or not, you need to grab that horn around the turn to be able to properly sit, not hurt your horses back and to not come out of the saddle. Barrels saddles are made with the high seat to push the rider up. So when you round that turn you have to hold the horn to keep from that saddle from jolting you up. And believe me, barrel racers have great balance.

The blonde girls drill (Don't know her name) doesn't work for me when I tried it my horse immediately thought he was supposed to go to a random barrel when I'm running the pattern
@NFRDreamers6 жыл бұрын
I would just make sure to go through the barrel pattern correctly after you do those drills. Also these drills are just to tune up your horse and get them thinking rather then letting them go into autopilot when running through the barrels. If you've got a pretty young/green horse these drills are probably not the best. Sorry for your confusion and hope this helps. Thanks for the feedback!

Jessiey Maree We don't get them from specific places. Charity won hers in a roping and Katie and I bought ours. We try to make sure our horses are comfortable but we can't afford to get them custom made.

Do you have any tips on how to teach a barrel horse t pick-up the speed and run faster? My horse tends to be lazy.
@jennarujawitz25576 жыл бұрын
Mykaela Hoppman my horse is the same way so what I do is doing more basic warm ups. I’ll ride around the arena asking for different speeds. When I do this and he keeps the speed for a couple laps, I’ll stop him and reward him. By doing this my horse has gotten a lot faster and he gives me his all when we ride.
