Good and interesting overview. They should have SAT divers for this one. Way too limited on bottom time diving mixed gas at that depth. I'm sure it's just a matter of $$. You should put a link in to the story of the S. African cook stuck in the air pocket. Fascinating story of survival in an air pocket at depth. Also it was perfect for a saturation dive team, as they were able to keep him under pressure and de-sat. safely.

I must disagree with your assessment of the builder of the yacht, he’s only going on the offensive out of necessity’s given the lawsuits that were filed almost immediately following the sinking of the yacht. It’s not only his reputation but his livelihood on the line. Idk if he’s right but he makes a good point about the other ships being aware of the inclement weather and preparing.

9:09 “The Bayesian has a retractable keel” Pictured is what is often called a centerboard which moves about a pivot. The Bayesian has a lifting keel which is raised and lowered straight up and down. Lifting keels often incorporate a ballast weight at the bottom of the keel. The centerboard is just the weight of the board.
@SSPDIVING
@SSPDIVING Күн бұрын
At 12:50 you can see the drawings from Perini Navi which shows the keel is raised and lowered by a pivot. I’ve heard “centerboard” used interchangeably but mostly for “keels” that raise and lower straight up and down. Thank you for the correction my friend.

3:28 That spiral staircase is a fabulous piece of craftsmanship, but in a seaway with pitching and heel, deadly. I don’t see a handrail, and if there is a big gust, and you are part way down those beautiful iroko steps, it looks like you would be free-launched.

I find it hard to believe trained rescue divers can only use air.
@SSPDIVING
@SSPDIVING Күн бұрын
It’s hard to tell, I have to go off the information available such as tank markings, other photos they have shared on social media. None of which involves diving to 50m, all of the diving I saw was shallow. So they likely can use air and nitrox but as I stated, you can’t dive nitrox that deep as you would get o2 toxicity. They are like most rescue dive teams which are making shallow dives.

@SSPDIVING Oh, I wasn't doubting your word. The headlines said ten minutes. I've only done a small amount of diving with the military ( no mixed gas ), but I know enough to wonder why that sort of diver wouldn't have the equipment and training to spend time at depth. . Really enjoyed your video mate.
@SSPDIVING
@SSPDIVING Күн бұрын
No worries my friend. There was a bit of a learning curve since I’m not sure exactly how Italy operates in terms of jurisdiction and levels of diversity training. One thing we do know if the fire brigade was diving single tanks. I don’t know if I saw any photos of them diving doubles. Anyone I know diving trimix on scuba is diving doubles. I guess based on them diving single tank, the volume of gas alone would limit them to ten minutes but idk. All educated assumptions at this point. I appreciate your comment and salute to a fellow diver 🫡🤙🏼

Narco do not affect your vocals ... Helium does..
@SSPDIVING
@SSPDIVING Күн бұрын
Correct. The pressure also affects your vocal cords if you are diving air, you voice will become higher pitched but it’s much more cuttle and nothing like what Heliox sounds like.

@@SSPDIVING If you had audio from the divers, couldn't that help you identify what mixture they were using?
@SSPDIVING
@SSPDIVING Күн бұрын
Absolutely but I couldn’t make out any audio from them. The audio was quiet and I could barely hear the diver supervisor on the comms which is typically much louder and clearer. Hopefully we find out soon, I’m very curious.

Best analysis, but even if that hull would be made PROFESSIONAL and compacted in high pressure and sterilised chamber (as carbon parts in FIA racing cars and aeronautic of nasa) to avoid those gaps in adhesive, that coupling between carbon tube and titanium ring using GLUE only will never survive too much. Yes that was PURE criminal IMBECILITY, not only stupidity as you trying to say.
@SSPDIVING
@SSPDIVING Күн бұрын
Yes that’s true. I actually found which glue they used and will be releasing a video tomorrow diving into it. I also found the lap shear strength for the glue and I’m sure there are other factors but it doesn’t appear to be rated for the pressure at that depth. Hopefully you find that interesting as well. Cheers🤙🏼

Many subway cars have a problem with the sliding connecting doors, at each end of the car, opening and slamming closed as people pass through while the train is rocking. The problem was solved pre-WW2 by using an automatic gravity latch at the top of each door. Once it slides closed, it stays closed. But simply twisting the door handle unlocks it as you open the sliding door. The same latches would have kept the sliding doors on the Bayesian closed. If the designer thinks the problem is unsolvable, he's at least 75 years behind the times. He screwed up big time if those doors couldn't be kept under control.

You missed my point which is that this vessel had a lifting keel, goes straight up into the hull, not on a hinge. Functions as you explain for sailing, not usually used at anchor to prevent capsizing and would normally be fully "lifted" in shallower water 3:59

Thank you for this amazing informative video. This gives me a bit of hope regarding the fuel's removal.I grew up at sea, sailed since the age of 8 and worked on luxury yachts in the Med and Caribbean (when I was younger). I am really into this.story. I just want to know everything about what really happened. I am from Sicily and I saw the Bayesan sailing towards Porticello last August. Everyone with eyes and ears could see a big storm coming, they sailed there to protect themselves from the storm. Considering the 45 degrees downfloding angle it means that the Bayesan wasn't a real sailing boat, the design is definitely faulty. I am really sorry for the people that lost their life.
