Ok i been trying to play thi song for years and your breakdown init helped me understand it much deeper as i see it being done real time and i got to say this is a very difficult song given the simplicity of how its composed the last part where one must stretch a good distance on the l 2 lower strings. And the part with the bluesy sounding bends is the main parts that are disturbingky difficult to play and master one could onlt think only a madman could come up with such a masterpiece which despite the beauty and simplicity is intricate in every part of it and i happen to know for a fact. Randy would have definitely been the one to do it. Among everyonbit jut screams the way his playstyle was unique no one else at tebtime even came close to it which i see why hes the one to inspire me to want to play guitar the moment i heard it when my friends mom played thing when i was a kid was the moment i would say my life changed in terms of what i wanted as a hobby and im always thankful hanging with them i learned of such good music and got introduced to a lot of stuff i would have never even heard or even thought would be something wirth listening to if it enduo playing in background and. Id hav to always stop and hear something. Badass and hav to goand ask what was playing

one of the sickest guitar solos i try to learn and after thousands hours of listening and trying i made it ;) But backing to reality without correct technique noone should start learning this solo. Sound easy but definitely isnt easy.

Something else that might help someone out there is if you're trying to play a fast lick or run in a real song that you want to learn, just apply the same idea shown in this video and play the notes at like half or 1/4 speed and gradually increase the speed. I know I'm one of those people who can "master" an exercise like this and then I go to play a real song and realize "Oh shit I actually have to learn the notes for this first." Sometimes exercises don't translate directly into being able to play something more difficult, but the idea behind it can be applied to that piece of music and when you kind of do the exercise again but with the "real" notes you're trying to play it'll help you get it faster.

Wow, been playing for 25+ years and youre the only one who broke it down for me in a way I understood. Most music teachers throw WAY too much music theory into why they play the things they play but you just make it easier to understand. Thanks.

What I never manage to get right about the first solo is how Randy ascends back up from those 16th note sequenced triplets with really aggressive palm muting that's almost staccato. It's so hard to do at full speed and I end up kind of slurring my way thru it. Something about the guitar tone and maybe the double tracking is helping the palm muting perhaps, but it mostly seems to be in his technique. I think he would have been able to get the same effect on an acoustic. Hardly anybody gets it right, including Zakk and Jake. P.S. Unhappy anti-Christmas 🤣

Thanks for the tips! Will you use this technique in a root position major arp (eg 14, 14, 12, 17). There is a roll in the middle (or ring) finger, but I'm wondering if you manage to get the hammer from nowhere working anyway. Maybe with some clever right hand muting?

Does practicing at slower speeds help playin the same runs at speed? i heard a walkin vs runnin analogy somewhere about this how walkin very fast n running isn't the same. not sure how they meant it in relation to playing sweeps

For the exercise near the end... playing the pull off15th fret on the high E... is it crucial that you play it with ring finger, or can you use pinky instead? I tend to use pinky a lot so I'm just wondering. thanks!
