Check out Knife Steel Nerds, they have a big list of steels that show their Toughness, Edge Retention and Corrosion Resistance. 52100 is like 1095 but on steroids in terms of toughness, and it has slightly better edge retention, negligible CR.

Greetings from a Tiny Island in Maine, USA I like to try to carry a 1 hand opening knife in 1 pocket and a SAK in the other. I have a variety in both Alox & cellidor scales that never let me down.

I love sharpening, and from that point I'd rather buy 14C28N over Nitro-V. Despite of all my attempts of using different stones and angles, the 14C28N keeps the edge longer.

I wish Benchmade would go back to 154CM. It's easier to sharpen than S30V & less chippy. I've had my 154CM mini Grip for years.

I first saw the steel on a sitivian knife and am curious about it. Certainly looks better than budget steels. I would reccomend cleaning your ceramics, i use brasso. Its instant clean. And the makers of ceramics do say they are impervious to chemicals and theyre harder than the silica abrasive in it, ive had that debate before lol.

I have a Bugout. It works fine, and it's much stronger than it feels. That's a good thing, because it feels cheap as hell. I have a couple tiny Spydercos and just ordered a Para 3. If the Para 3 works as expected, I will sell the Bugout.

Why did miguron drop the DC53? No one uses it, but it’s just a better D2 DC53 is to D2, what Magnacut is to Cru-Wear Slightly less edge retention, much higher toughness and more stainlessness D2: 1.6% carbon, 1% vanadium, 12% chromium, 0.5% molybdenum DC53: 1.1% carbon, 0.4% vanadium, 8.5% chromium, 1.1% silicon, 2% molybdenum While D2 requires cryogenics to reach over 60 HRC, DC53 can reach 62 HRC at similar temps, and without cryogenics All in all, this should be in more knives IMO, Imagine a Civivi Vision or a Kershaw Iridium in DC53!

Agreed on all counts. Takes a keen but stable edge, holds it a long time, strops well, not difficult to sharpen. Also agree it’s the best deal. Got a like new k390 leafjumper with stock clip and a lynchNW clip for $99.

Cruwear is very underrated. I had a edc fixed blade in Cruwear at 65-66hrc made by Bless Knives that smoked the K390 Strech 2. Sounds crazy but it’s real.

Cruwear is my favorite. Tried a bunch like s35vn, s90v, m4, k390, m390 and found that I wanted tougher steel to take to my construction job every day and the object became finding something that still had good edge retention. 3v was just a tad mushy on the stones but cruwear is crisp.

I know they are looked down upon but i really love spyderco’s lightweight frn scales. I have plenty of wood and g10 scales but for pocket knife use spyderco frn is my preference. Love the scales on your para 3. I got a like new leafjumper in k390 off ebay for $100. It came with a ~$30 lynch clip as well as stock clip. Best knife deal ive ever gotten and it wont leave my pocket. A bit early to say yet but it might pass my caly 3 in zdp-189 as favorite spyderco ever.

14C28N and Nitro-V is great steels. They aren’t “super steels”, but they are great. I much prefer a great steel that isn’t a “super steel”, over a “super steel” that isn’t great.

CruWear and 3V are my favorite fixed blade non-stainless steels. But it's so tough it's almost not worth having in a folder, so looking forward to trying a Delica 4 in K390 soon.

What I don't like about this knife is that coins will get in the back of the frame and dull the blade unless you carry it in a slip or an empty pocket. I'm thinking about making a spacer for it.

Hoping to see Spyderco do some Rex 54 soon. It's M4 modified with cobalt, so it's pretty similar to Rex 45 in ways. However, with less Cobalt (5% compared to 8% in Rex45) and increased Vanadium, So should have better edge retention and toughness (according to Crucible), similar to M4. But it's hard to say without testing it, but it sure looks promising on paper. And the only way to really find out is to get it in hand and test it. I absolutely love Rex 45 and I'm sure I will love Rex 54 as well.

Wrap the blade in a vinegar soaked paper towel keeping it wet overnight and then clean and oil it with food grade oil (I use coconut oil) and it works fine in the kitchen after a good sharpening! I use mine for food often.

If you force a patina it’s less likely to rust! I generally keep a good food grade oil like coconut oil after I put a vinegar forced patina on it and find they work well in most environments. I use carbon steel in the kitchen often and carried a carbon steel pocket knife daily in my pocket for much of my childhood growing up in a hot humid environment. Yes they need care, but it’s not as big a deal as many make it out to be!

.I bought a Chis Reeve green beret clone in DC53 and it is awesome. Cuts just like between a cruwear and 5160 spring steel.Small grains makes DC53 a cutting machine.
