I looked part 1 and a bit confused, how come you have wood under drywall? I am planning to do slat walls and many people just attach it with glue and nails to drywall but I am not sure that this will keep it secure really
@MidCenturyStyle
@MidCenturyStyle 3 ай бұрын
In my case, it's just because I didn't remove the old wood panels and added dry wall over them instead. I'm not sure what the best way is but since the slats are held vertically and say, compared to hanging from the ceiling, there isn't much force trying to pull them off the wall if they're well secured. So if I had not had wood underneath the dry wall, I think I might still have just used glue and brad nails. Maybe glued it more. It's just a guess, I didn't research it from that perspective. With some research, you'll have a good idea. Good luck!

You should also use a coat of pre-stain. This will help keep your stain more even.
@MidCenturyStyle
@MidCenturyStyle 9 ай бұрын
Hi Scott. Actually I did, as you can see in the video, and it made a difference. I just didn't know at first how to stain, being a newbie at this. The pre-stain coat might have provided a bigger benefit if I didn't wait so long between coats. First-timer's mistake I guess.

I love your picture behind the couch. Where can I get a copy of that??
@MidCenturyStyle
@MidCenturyStyle Жыл бұрын
Hi Liz. I’m often asked about that and it’s a fun story. This is a custom art that I made and it was the spark behind my online store and this channel. When I started redecorating the condo, I wanted a huge art to fill that big wall. During my research, I fell in love with 2 things: a famous 1970 photograph by Slim Aarons “Poolside Gossip” (scene reproduced there) and the mid-mod funky art of the California artist Josh Agle, known as Shag, who has a store in downtown Palm Springs (I’m a big fan! Look it up, he sells online too.). Both the photo reproduction and Shag original art were very expensive at a big size and still, none was big enough. So instead, being a graphic designer, I decided to create something myself by mixing those two ideas together: That famous photo but in the style of Shag. I traced everything in my computer, had it printed by Vistaprint and built a frame from scratch. The result is this 72"x48" glorious digital art. And when it was time to find throw pillows, I had also found out that you can have any design printed on multiple blank products. And the rest is history. That’s how the MidCentury.Style store was born with my exclusive designs and this big art project inspired me to be on KZbin. Of course, I can’t sell this particular image for obvious copyright reasons but at least you now know the story behind that picture. You’re making me realize I should make a video about it and use that as a welcome clip. I’m really sorry I can’t help you getting a copy of this image but thanks for reaching out!

So luxurious, and you explained the process well. Thank you. Did you multiply the length of the wall by 2, 2.5, or more to decide how many panels of curtains you needed?
@MidCenturyStyle
@MidCenturyStyle 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Miriam. Thanks for your nice comments. Yes, I did make a calculation. I first looked at a multiple between 2X and 3X (see the blog post of this project for more info, I'm adding the link below). I needed at least 3 packs (6 panels) according to my math. I bought an extra pack just in case (IKEA has a great return policy). Once the 6 panels were up, I felt the 4th pack would not be too much so I ended up with 8 panels totalling 456" on a 12' wall (comes down to a 3.17X ratio). We're often told 2.5X is the sweet spot but it depends on the window's location and the goal. In this case, the more pleats, the more luxurious it feels. Beautiful! I did the same along a stairway and it even helped bounce a little light and sparkle into that dark space. When I sold my home, the buyer wrote it into the offer that I had to leave those frames with the house; she loved them, too. I would do it again in my current home, but as you said, you can't buy them at IKEA anymore. The resale prices on eBay are SUPER high. I wish IKEA would bring them back! Regular frames give a feel for it, but the thick frames of the Malma mirrors were so special. : )

How much space do you get under the drawer? I have been thinking of making a TV stand using three of these with the bottom drawer removed. But I would need to be able to fit amplifier and other tv accessories under.
@MidCenturyStyle
@MidCenturyStyle 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Here are the measurements for the opening: 25.5 in W x 6 in H. The depth is 11 flush from the front. Now this is for the “front” opening, meaning the space that would be covered by the front panel. You need to know that the drawer is slightly smaller than the finishing front panel. Which means that there’s an extra 1/2 in of space underneath. The front panel is 5/8” thick so the inner depth is closer to 10 3/8” deep if you use the extra height. I had the same issue myself because I inserted a fixture in one of these as a mood light and it was 1/4” too high to slide in. All I had to do is open the upper drawer to make extra height temporarily, insert the light in, and close back the top drawer. Also, don’t forget these units are hung on a rail that is screwed on the wall. I hope it helps. Good luck!
