Great video! As a life long San Diegan, I too have a soft spot for the Unarians. On the Synanon, I'd dispute that it's gone, due to its legacy being preserved to a really distressing degree in the "scared-straight" style wilderness schools. The podcast TrueAnon has a great, if difficult to listen to, series on it that is both very well researched while also drawing on one of the hosts being a survivor of one of the schools

Holly Hell is art. Amazing and powerful documentary that make us think that the impulse to leave your life behing and get traped in a cult is not so far away as we generally think ... For the people involved in the Sarin Gas terrorist Attack in Japan - thats horrifying ... Absolute terror and a disaster that harms up to this day Japan. I remember watching a movie, was a drama but based on things that happen right after the incident happened ... Japanese society was so desperate to find a guilt person, someone to blame for the deaths and despair, that for a long time te persecuted person was a survivor of the attack - an old man that "surprisingly survived the attack". This old man almost died after public harrassing and media nefarious coverage. Only after the real makers were revealled people stop persecute him. But he was allready devastated.

Unarius ... I remenber come to knowing them after watching a one dollar cheap documentary named "Children Of The Stars" witch ... Well the intention seemed to be improve their image but all I could do was laugh at their aestetics and ideas that... Kind dificult to take serious ... The more intersting thing in the documentary was a cientist, religion researcher or something, that made comentaries after the cult member explain their stuffs ... The expert DID NOT tried to make them sound silly but, simply by speaking grounded stuff, you can't help not taking serious their ideas because they look Looney as hell.

Terrific piece, found it quite accidently in recommends. Based on the quality of this post I subbed and look forward to viewing the rest of the content. The Synanon segment made me recall what a strange, often oppressively sinister time the 1970s was for a native Californian kid like myself. I vividly remember the TV news reports about the exposure and unraveling of the cult, especially the sensational coverage of the infamous rattlesnake in a mailbox assassination attempt against a Los Angeles attorney suing the cult in 77. I thought at the time "whoah that's weird". Then Peoples Temple and Jonestown happened. Much as it's only natural to laugh at these crackpot artifacts of 20th century cultdom there's still an aspect that chills the spine.
