You need to contact your state Secretary of State. This is to ensure you are getting the most accurate information. I always say there are 50 states and 50 sets of rules. I hope this helps. Happy New Year!!

Not sure if there's a set answer to this, but if a notary is asked to notarize a power of attorney, and then at the same time asked to notarize documents signed by that POA as a POA, is that concerning? Is there a waiting period, or just roll right into that?

They RELY on a notary, but their declining payments for services is ridiculous. $80.00 for a refinance is ridiculous. They are taking advantage of notaries.

Unfortunately criminals have access to what they need to forge documents. I don’t understand whey fingerprints aren’t required for loan signings and a system in place to verify them and protect legitimate home owner’s property.

It seems to me that additional verification steps are needed at the Recorder’s Office before deed recording happens, even if new laws are needed for that. It should also be illegal to buy notary stamps just anywhere. There should be more legitimate oversight for that. This seems to be such an easy crime for criminals to commit because there are not enough roadblocks to stop them. It’s like a free-for-all for them. It’s quite ridiculous that someone’s home or land can be stolen so easily.

Hey so I'm new and learning and I can't stress enough how important it is for anyone else that is in the same boat to CHECK YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS first and foremost. This training video encouraged someone like me, in Texas, to do something against state regulations. Texas considers it a best practice to permanently maintain and safeguard copies of the records. You may not record any identification number, driver’s license, Social Security card or passport numbers, or biometrics like thumbprints in your journal (1 Tex. Admin. Code §87.40).

You can get commissioned in less than two days if you submit your Application to the Secretary of State electronically. In fact, I believe Illinois now requires electronic Application submission in most circumstances. Also, if taking exam to become a Notary, it is lengthy. The course was only a few hours of video, but when taking notes and actually studying while learning, it can take a couple days or so. Go slower and take good notes - it's worth it in the end!
