So happy to have found this video! I thought the algorithm was messing with me so I searched for you. I love what you do. We are social animals so it is hard to ignore criticism. There has to be a hierarchy though, I think. The opinions of trusted people who truly know us - our close friends and family - should and do matter. But the comments of random strangers on the internet? Maybe not so much.

This video was far too short. Why? Because you are organized and everything has a home. You never hesitated like you do with decluttering. It was never a mess, just 10 minutes tidying. My favourite colours are white and blue and I like your kitchen. I am glad you havent put this little shelf on the wall. Your countertop is ready to cook another great meal.

We have a small 3-tier trolley in the kitchen that we use to collect dirty dishes while cooking and after meals. That keeps counters and sink clear, until we are ready to fill the dishwasher. It visually simplifies the kitchen chaos and takes the urgency out of doing dishes. Our kitchen is almost never perfect, and there is probably no need for it, either.

My mom wasn't the best housekeeper. Growing up, I know the house often cluttered and messy but we kids felt loved, safe, and home. Your kids may remember some of the messes or clutter (and I mean general life clutter -not borderline hoarding) but they will value the love and coziness.

I also am a homeschooling mom, I have 3 boys and have a toddler girl, sometimes it can be busy and messy despite the fact we are a minimal family. I always let my children have free access to arts and crafts materials.😅 I try to have them tidy up the living room and I take care of the kitchen before bed. Sometimes when it feels overwhelming and im tired I try to think of it in terms of "future me will be thankful that past me didn't leave it for myself" several years ago my husband said " that's tomorrow me's problem" and I thought I never want to leave a problem for my future self if I am capable to completing it now. I also try to remind myself while I'm washing the dishes for the 5th time of the day and cleaning up art strewn across the living room that it will be gone too soon and I will terribly miss these busy messy nights, sometimes that's enough to give me motivation when I feel I'm too tired to finish.

It’s interesting, I’m blessed to have access to a life coach from my employer. And in the first couple of sessions we talked about the shame, the embarrassment, related to having a clean home. I don’t think men tend to feel this way. I think we need to be nicer and kinder to ourselves thanks for all that you do for us.

Guilt and shame are not helpful. They are not wrong and they are very normal. But they do not really help you to live your life in ways that lead to joy.

Self awareness is the key to living a good life, as well as recognising how to change negative thoughts to positive ones. You have mastered both and that is gift you will pass on to your children and one of the most important things they can learn. You are also teaching them that it’s not a perfect world and that’s ok! I think you’re doing a wonderful job! ❤❤👏

I honestly don’t think it matters if you need to leave the kitchen at night don’t feel guilty. As long as we cleanup at our earliest convenience. One thing that has helped me recently is what Cas from Clutterbug says for everyone to sit down and have dinner together whenever you can and then for every family member to help cleanup after 😊

We are so hard on ourselves. We have to practice to not be that way. We can have a simple and minimized home, we can have routines and habits. But sometimes things happen and we are more busy, or more tired, or something in our day with schedule, activities, children, work etc changes and that affects our home and surrounding. But that's life, and that's ok. We just take some time another day and try and reset. But the reset isn't the goal. The goal is for the space to function so that we can keep using the space and living our lives. Much love to you for being so real here on KZbin!

Thanks Erica. No one should be judging you but our Father in heaven. I have many of these struggles too. We have to remember these bad thoughts are the work of the devil. We need a friend(s) to tell us and send us back on the righteous path of the Way to the SET APART SPIRIT. Ask me how I know, it happened today. You are doing a good job, Erica! Psalms 23 has helped me.

My house is messy. I blame my ADHD and I had blamed my kids....I realized that I prioritize going to bed early and rest than a clean house. I used to suffer so much because of this. Until I started believing in God a year or so ago and that gave me the strength to appreciate my home and the whole world, really. I used to hate my home, because it is never clean or tidy, because it is not as big or as pretty as the ones here in KZbin. But God told me that all of this will banish one day and it is my relationship with Him and my family that matters the most. That gave me the peace I needed. It didn't change my home but it changed the way I view it. So he gives me the strength to accept and also to work on my self to change. God is good.

I struggle to have the energy to clean after dinner. I use the power of body doubling and we all have after-dinner chores/tasks. It helps most days. Some days we leave it very cluttered. Last night was one of those times. Thank you for talking through your thoughts. Continue to love yourself, live slow and simple. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Erica, please give yourself some grace. You take care of a family of five, feed a family of five, educate three members of the family of five. Your family doesn’t need to have counters clear, they need you to be present in their lives. And you are, be happy, take care of yourself. If your tank is empty you can’t fill up others who need you. ❤❤❤

I am older with no children at home so I have now started diamond painting and working on puzzles and coloring and I am thinking about doing what they call a glue book or junk journal, oh yes, I also do counted cross stitch and I love reading books. I have so many different crafts that I wonder what I will do today! So, I think it is great you are finding time to get interested in something for yourself. Your children are young but the time will fly by and you will be glad you developed interest in things for yourself for the day when they leave home. Did I mention I LOVE watching you tube videos!!! That really takes up a lot of time and I learn so much about decluttering and watching ladies like yourself cleaning and enjoying life!

I don't see failure here. I see growth, shorter lag time, with systems in place to address it "quicker" than before 👍 that you CAN afford to just go to bed without resetting and it not then be unmanageable the next day. 💪

There will come a time when there is no mess. No kids clothes to pick up or wash, no kids lunch boxes, only 2 plates or 1. For me, life is full of seasons. What season am I in? I've been in the tiny human season filled with diapers, shirts stained with breast milk or baby barf, sporadic sleeping schedules. I miss that season. I've been in the season of homeschooling 5 littles, struggling with schedules, bills, jobs, cooking, every hat a mom could wear, I wore it. I miss parts of that season. I've been in the season of graduating children & weddings. That season had its enjoyable moments but was very sad for me. I am currently in the season of adult children living with us(rent in our area is astronomical), driving an hour each day to sit/help with my 94 yr old dad. My adult children have been such a blessing to prepare meals, clean up, laundry, etc. I remember when I stressed over chaos and mess. I cry over missed opportunities with my children when they were little because I stressed over clutter and worrying what others would think. I am beyond that now. I've learned what I can control and what I can't. I've learned what is important and what isn't. You do what you can do. Go to bed and leave the clutter for the next day. Be grateful for the bed you woke up in, the kitchen to clean, the messes showing life and happiness in the living. Live.
