Your garage looks about as air-tight as mine, lol. Mine's the cinderblock variety built in about 1940 and several years ago I bought a Remington 80k multi-fuel and I've really liked having it in there. Yeah, they're a little loud, but I'll take loud over cold any time :) I'm sure they're all made by the same company for mine looks just like yours except for the color of the accent paint. I can get kerosene here for $4.19 a gallon. I'm in a rural area with a little store with pumps about 3 miles away and as they have so many Amish customers they installed a kerosene pump. I can get diesel there too, but I don't care for the smell it makes. If it was all I could get I'd use it though as that's better than being cold too, lol. Over the years I've had a sub panel installed out in the garage so I have plenty of light and electric and even 240v for an upright air compressor and a dust "collector" I modified to blow the dust through the back wall of the garage into a large pile I can use for filling holes, mulching, composting etc.

Other thing I like but also don't like is that I put tubes and calcium in the back tires. Rides like a 50 ton lumber wagon. Every hole you hit you feels like it might be time for a new tailbone. But it planted the machine down to the point where i can lift with forks on the front end loader until it hits the hydraulic limit without feeling like its going to tip over.

Love all this information. It would be helpful to share why you want to upgrade to another machine and what the difference is among all of them. I.e. i am looking at a Mica va13, QH12R, and why i would want one over the other for a small property to dig trenches with.
@skywatcherranchswr9 күн бұрын
I just want to add another machine. My motto with almost all equipment is to have multiples of everything. Multiple trucks, tractors, chainsaws, welders, trailers, etc etc. I have always done it that way in case of breakdowns ( and it happens a lot. alternator just went out in my GMC Sierra, so I got in my chevy Silverado and rode off into the sunset until my new alternator gets delivered). It makes life easier. I'm seeing these Chinese mini excavators from $2900 to $4500 which is dirt cheap. I had a excavator on order a few years ago that was $29,000 so I could have 3 or 4 of these Chinese ones without even getting halfway on the price of a new professional machine ( which I really don't need). I can't speak on some other models/brands but I know the QH12R is as cheap and poorly built as can be. No counterweight, no ROPS( cheap bars and a cheap roof for the sun but won't protect the operator during rollover), no hydraulic cooler or filter, etc. The LH12 (which I could have a video on it in the future) is very well made. Has a stock hydraulic cooler, heavy duty 2 post roof, counterweight in the back, and often times outfitted with briggs engines ( I think RATO sucks). They're very nice other than the fact that hydraulic thumb kits don't work on them because of the bolt holes for the L-bracket. Anyways, these machines are cheap and work just good enough to enjoy using them. Shovels suck.

@skywatcherranchswr can't you cycle your key to the left the initiate a manual glow plug cycle time? On my 2024 CX2510 you're able to do that and living in Northern Ontario Canada it's nice to use it as it gets down to -40 (I don't use the tractor at those temperatures) but even at -10-15f (-20- it's 25c) handy to extend the cycle time before turning the key to the right and letting the tractor do it's thing.
@skywatcherranchswr15 күн бұрын
@Outdoor-Adventurer dang that's cool! Mine was bought in spring of 2021 but it's a 2020 model I think but I only have 3 key positions. Off, aux/run, and start. Having manual glow plugs is a great idea. Mine configures it's own time based on it's coolant temp when starting. In the summer the glow plugs will be on for maybe 2 or 3 seconds and then in the winter, they're on way longer. But I don't think they stay on long enough which is why I'll do them twice if it's really cold. That's a cool feature!
@Outdoor-Adventurer15 күн бұрын
@@skywatcherranchswr yes it really is. Mine like yours depends on a sensor but this works like a override. I plug the block heater in for a couple of hours before using the tractor & snowblower but sometimes the glow plug senses that the block/ engine is warm enough so doesn't activate with the key cycle. I then turn to the left until the glow plug light comes on and hold it for about 10 seconds and voila a nice low smoke start up!

Nice video, but I'm not sure why you'd get rid of that kerosene heater? I believe the issue is the garage, not the heater. That heater is very quiet and is more powerful that the propane heater (I own both as well as a Buddy). You already own it and if you have regrets later about selling it, you'll spend much more to get a replacement. I think that new jet heater will cook you right out of the garage, but they are very nice. If you add a small fan for circulation, the kerosene will do a fantastic job. Add a layer of plywood to the bottom of the ceiling joists to trap warm air in lower and it will make a huge difference. Add insulation, even better, especially if you are a self-proclaimed skin flint (you're literally p*ssing your money away w/o insulation). I'd also get a combo smoke/monoxide detector if you are concerned about safety - it is a good concern to have. The Mr Buddy heaters have the proprietary hose which would allow you to tap a 20 lb cylinder, but I do think having a few 1 pounders are nice to have around. Best of luck!
@skywatcherranchswr21 күн бұрын
@steve8189 I actually kept the kerosene heater, might use it somewhere that I don't have electricity, I don't mind it, just hate kerosene. I'm currently burning about a half gallon of diesel a day using my new dyna glo. It gives good heat and I can't insulate or modify the garage in any way, so I have to heat it the way it sits. I'm not a fan of propane heat. The little radiant heater I'm using on my 20lb cylinder was just an experiment for fun, I was curious how much heat it would give off. I'm trying to burn off my propane tanks. I probably have 10 or 15 20lb tanks, most with some propane in them. The only thing I like about it is how quiet it is. Diesel is my 2nd favorite heatsource next to wood but I can't use my woodstove currently ( can't modify the garage). I enjoy messing around with different heaters. When I buy my next property I will be insulating the crap out of it and sealing it up as best as I can. For now I just have to deal with the heat loss but it doesn't cost me much.
@steve818921 күн бұрын
@@skywatcherranchswr I would really like to purchase a Vevor Diesel heater, hear nothing but good stuff about it. I simply don't have an application for it anywhere without insulating the small detached garage I have. The only thing I think I would do would be to add a much larger external tank as the one onboard is only about 12 hours, then you have to play around to refuel it again. I'd like 7-10 day's worth and by the other videos I've seen, it appears to be a pretty simple modification. Best of luck to you!
