Doesn't matter much to me where it's being made . Mine is made in the USA and it is probably the best bike I've ever riden ' including German ' British and even Harley's . But it's a Honda . So can Chinese people build as good a Honda as American people ? Probably. But can they put that special '' something '' into a motorcycle that our Beautiful Americans Nieghbors do . God I Hope so . Still dark here ' most likly the last warm riding day of the year . The Wing is full of gas and ready to go . Hmm ' East into Saskatchewan or West across Alberta. ❤ your ride !

What’s the support structure? You could get a Goldwing serviced at literally hundreds of facilities across America but break down on a SOUO then what? Nope

With the current tariffs on China this bike may cost well over 60.000, not to mention maintenance cost. What dealership is going to sell it?

it’s an old story, suzuki had problems, 15 years ago with ethanol fuel blend. Here in the United States it is legal to put 10% ethanol in the fuel. Every gallon that is produced by the oil companies get that oil company a $.45 tax break. Every gallons of non-ethanol fuel they create, they only get a $.10 tax break. So they are not in any hurry to stop making ethanol blended fuel… what about the transmission failures on the gold wings. That’s what I thought. This video was about. Transmission lock ups on the gold wings… I sold my GL 1800 Goldwing in 2021. I have seen some reports that the GL 1800 gold wings all the way back to 2001 are having transmission lockup problems. Some part comes loose or comes out of its place in the transmission and gets caught in the gears. this, as you can imagine, causes catastrophic damage and a solid lock up of the rear wheel because the transmission is locked. Pulling the clutch and does not free up the locked back wheel… pulling the clutch and simply disconnects the driveline between the engine and the transmission. Once the transmission explodes internally, that rear wheel stays locked. You won’t even be able to push the bike off the road if you don’t crash because the rear wheel will not rotate at all. I had that happen one time on a transmission. One of the gears seized on the main shaft, it broke seven gears in the transmission. I was doing about 60 miles an hour, I got into a horrible fishtail, I pulled the clutch, and it did nothing. When I finally came to a stop, I had dragged my fairly new rear tire down to the cords.. passing motorists helped me get my machine off the road because it would not move. Luckily that was a light bike, it was a Yamaha RZ 350. It was totally my fault because I did not have enough oil in the transmission. I thought the gearbox and the engine cases were the same as on an RD 350 which held 1.1 quarts of oil. So that’s all I put in, I found out later that the transmission on an RZ 350 holds almost 2 quarts of oil.. That’s why it seized.. I can’t imagine what that would be like on an 800 pound motorcycle, especially if I had a passenger on the back..

I've ridden 280,000 miles since 2012. At least 200k of these miles have been dark side. It didn't take me long to make the decision. The first time I wore out my rear tire on a heavy touring bike in just 5000 miles was enough. Once you shop for a replacement and suffer the sticker shock … what a racket motorcycle tires are! Dark siding is a NO BRAINER! I knew a few folks that were doing it. And then there were all the nay sayers, most of which I thought were corporate shills. If you ride as many miles as I do, tire life is EVERYTHING! Before I made the decision I did some research - all about safety! You can read all the advice from the EX SPURTS, the shills that have NEVER DONE IT, and you probably SHOULD do that ONCE just to understand the propaganda mind set. The answer to whether this is safe would be reports of motorcycle crashes attributed to using car tires. I searched the entire web for reports of this type, motorcycle crashes caused by the car tire usage. Those reports DO NOT EXIST! If dark siding was causing motorcycle crashes, WE''D BE READING ABOUT IT. The best the shills can do IS TO SCARE US WITH RHETORIC AND BS! Basically I went dark side as soon as I started riding heavy touring bikes. The first time I wore out the rear tire on a heavy cruiser I replaced it with a car tire. Only one time did I put a motorcycle tire on the rear after a car tire. My car tire failed while on the road, and I needed an immediate replacement. This wasn't the fault of the tire, but poor management ln my part. I had used this bike in 2018 for a 7000 mile trip to Nova Scotia. 1000 miles into this trip I had a flat rear tire, which I PLUGGED, then finished the trip. In the fall of that year I was hospitalized for a while with a health crisis. The next spring I bought another bike and the Nova Scotia bike, an RSV sat almost unused 'til 2023. In 2023 I rode the new bike, a gl1500 to Alaska, wore both tires out, and the bike TOO - 11,550 miles. So the RSV goes back on the road, plugged Nexten and all. And I had a rear tire blowout. It wasn't a bam, big an abrupt onset rapid leak. I realized there was a problem when the bike did the preamble to the onset of a highspeed weave! No folks, the plug was FINE. The tire had begun to come apart on the bottom, near one edge. It was a small place, maybe the size of a fifty cent piece. The tire wasn't worn out, but it sat around for a long time, and age is hard on rubber! This situation isn't unusual. I nought a 2003 gl1800 this March that had 19,760 miles. The rear tire was a Metzler. I put 5,000 miles on it. This bike always rode rough and I'd looked at the tires several times but at a casual glance didn't see a problem. I was ready to replace that tire and had a new car tire in hand, when I took the bike in to have it checked for the roughness. They spotted the delamination on the rear tire. It was severe and close to failure. I'd looked at that tire several times and not spotted the problem. Whether in use or not, age will wear a tire out. Tires actually hold up better when being used, this info was from folks at the car tire place, when I asked them why my almost new trailer tires were already shot. The checked the serial number on those tires and told me thru were actually quite old and had been sitting around for a long time. Old tires are not your friend! The best mileage I've gotten on car tires is about 30k miles, the worst about 1200, with an average of about 20,000. On the Akaska trip I had about 12,000 on that tire and it was done. Not one of the better ones, but I got through the entire Alaska experience on a set of tires! This is the voice of experience. In general car tires last better, have better load carrying abiity, may be much easier to make road repairs, provide better traction, perform well on twisty roads, are typically less expensive, but they have quirks, but aren't show stoppers. I bought a used bike from a dealer once, and they said they were gonna put new tires on it. I asked them to put a car tire on the back. That didn't fly. It can be quite challenging to mount your own tire, unless you have a tire machine. I've done this by hand once and NEVER AGAIN. Shop around and find a car tire place that will do this for you - maybe $20. They may not be able to balance it, but you can get a static balancer from Harbor Freight. In 2014 I paid $30. Or you can use balancing beads. I've done both. DO BALANCE YOUR WHEELS! HF sells weights. For tire safety: - USE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS and get this information in REAL TIME WHILE RIDING! - DON'T RIDE ON UNDER INFLATED TIRES! - DON'T LET THE RUBBER GET OLD - REPLACE THE TIRE WHEN IT IS WORN DOWN TO THE WEAR BARS. IF IT THE TIRE HAS NO TREAD, IT WILL EASILY HYDROPLANE ON A WET ROAD! - CARRY TIRE REPAIR EQUIPMENT AND A COMPRESSOR AT ALL TIMES - BEFORE ALWAYS CHECK TIRE PRESSURE AND CORRECT FOR UNDER INFLATION IF THE PRESSURE IS DOWN BY MORE THAN 2PSI DO IT WHEN THE TIRES ARE STILL AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. - DO NOT CORRECT FOR OVERINFLATION WHILE RIDING. AS A TIRE HEATS UP THE PRESSURE WILL GO UP. THIS IS NORMAL. - IF YOUR TIRES ARE LOOSING PRESSURE WHILE RIDING, DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY. LOW TIRE PRESSURE WILL KILL YOU! - AT STOPS ALWAYS INSPECT YOUR TIRES.

Thank you for your podcast and sharing your concerns. I agree with you. I’m an older rider getting back into motorcycling but found I was seeing too much distracted driving around me. On two occasions while waiting for opposing traffic to stop as I was making a left turn I saw cars approaching The long red light without any sign of slowing. Twice now, I have waited In the intersection long after the light had changed and watched these oncoming cars cross through the intersection on a full red light Without slowing. If I had not noticed the cars in the distance, failing to slow and if I started, my left turn I would’ve been killed On occasions . It is just not enjoyable to be this concerned about others who are distracted. Statistics apparently are showing increased motorcycle deaths. I’m sad that the risks now have taken the fun out of riding. I’ll not be Returning to motorcycling.

Not from China; no way. The Honda 2003 gl1800 the I have keeps amazing me for the past 21 years (same bike)! I've opened her up, dug through her, removed fuel tank, replaced relays, starter, air filter, coolant tank and when I put it back together, I fire it up and it purrs like a sewing machine. It's like I have my 21-year-old girlfriend from college back without any wrinkles, fat, looks or loss of vigor! A little dated style maybe but think bellbottoms, long legs, no bra hippie chick (without tattoos)!
