I setup my theater with Auro-3D height layout. 7.2.6 and most of the content I have it set to up-mix using Auro-matic. It works fairly well and hard to tell the difference between Atmos and Auro-3D. I have Twister in DVD and like you preordered the 4K. Just a fun movie to watch and can’t wait. Hopefully the remastered video and audio will blow me away, just like the original many, many years ago.

Issue is you are using a Dolby atmos spec setup and trying to compare to Auro 3D. You don't have VOG above the head. You don't have Top Center. YOU DONT have the spacing requirements to copy the bed layer. This is why its difficult. Unless you can have both setups and compare I wouldn't.

Good review! Question: why with Auro3D are my SRR and SRL not being used? I have the same 7.2.4 setup and set my overheads to height for both. PS, I’m glad someone picked up this big old toy every one else seemed to put down and hasn’t played with in years. I’m pretty interested in Auro3D and where it could go.

Turbine did such an incredible job remixing the audio for Twister. I got it a couple months ago. It's pretty incredible. Until the USA 4k comes out, this is the definitive edition for Twister. It even has the best video of all the releases. The USA bluray is full of terrible video artifacts, smoothing, and denoising. It also plays an incredible Atmos demo right after hitting play.

Hey Ealan, I’m just about ready to dive into external amps and grab a BasX A5 from Emotiva. Just wondering how close the A5 comes in performance to the Outlaw or the Aperion amp? My speakers are the arendal 1961 monitors and bookshelf speakers with 4ohm nominal impedance and 84 and 87 db sensitivity.

AFAIK Auro3D is dead, provided the Dutch company that created it and own its rights has filed for bankruptcy some time ago. So I didn't know and didn't expect to find any source material in this format. It's a shame because I love their upmixer and I use it most of the time for all the non-Atmos content (I dunno if my receiver is able to override Atmos and use Auro3D over it) and it works a lot better than the Dolby and DTS solutions, especially with my system that doesn't have in-ceiling speakers but four heights.

In my experience using Auro3D upmixing on my Denon 6400H has been great for subpar or unbalanced DD or DTS mixes, I found that dialouge cleared up along with more space in the mix in general. if you sytem has upmixing then it's worth cycling through them to see if it can improve a subpar mix. P.S i've found upmixing works best in movies from the 80's/90's

If you are looking to compare more recent titles that have auro 3D tracks I can help you there. You need to buy the *german* blu-ray editions of The Dark Tower, Passengers, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Spider-man: Home-coming and Pixels. Yes, they are only blu-ray, but you can find them cheap and brand new. For the atmos tracks, you'll need the 4K of the first 4 titles and for Pixels you just need the the regular USA blu-ray.

In my opinion, the Auro 3D really shines using the top surround (VOG) and the center front height channels. Toby's doesn't support those, so that gives Auro the advantage. I'm using a Marantz AV8805 in a 7.6.1 with three sub configuration.

Hello Mr, on the minute 1:41 you need to upgrade your receiver , I have the Denon X3800H and I get AURO 3D support in any Dolby Atmos layout configuration , from example I get on Top Front and Top rear AURO-3d support

Hey Ealan, I have four Dolby Atmos enabled speakers resting on the top fronts and rear surrounds. I know ow there’s all sorts of configurations depending on the room, we have an open concept so the rear Atmos Enabled ones have to sit on top of the surrounds. But I’ve been thinking about putting the front ones on the wall. What’s your preference?

A couple of weeks ago I read an article talking about pointing the sub towards my seat position. I did no measurements before or after. But what I can tell you is that angling my sub 45 degrees towards my seat position fixed 99% of the issues I was having. No more boom at the back of the room and no more shaking furrniture.

Sorry a couple more things. Only just finishing the video now and heard you talking about Dolby Surround vs Neural-X and I think we pretty much agree. As for T2 I agree with "I am THAT I am" that it did look good on my TV. But I think it was made primarily for 3D and the 4K suffered because of it. It does look great in 3D BTW :) As for the wire question? It depends on the generation of the movie. There are movies where for historical reasons you will keep the wires in. But in the majority of cases it is well known that the director would not have wanted the wires to be seen so you remove them.

New sub and so far loving the content :) I also want to watch the Silent Space version. But on a quick look through I did notice one problem. There's a scene where Clooney is speaking in the surround speaker pans round to the front speakers in the Atmos mix. But in the Silent Space version it's 100% in the front speakers only. By the way, which up-mixer did you use? I tend to use Neural-X for most action movies because I love the extra activity. But Dolby Surround is less aggressive so might be more accurate. Another "by the way", Nolan mixes are some of the best up-mixed sound tracks I've ever heard.

How does Marantz compare to Denon poor video switching and quality Does the Marantz have issues with Interfacing with Apple TV like Denon?

I can do 5.1.2 or just stick with 5.1 adding more is not an option. Is it worth it or not?

I have a PIONEER universal dvd player (decodes DVD-A and SACD) since 2003 and it does have a 5.1 analog outputs that then I used to connect to my old receiver's multichannel-in. Today I have a receiver that doesn't have a multichannel-in patch so I forsook playing 5.1 DVD-A altogether. But sometimes I play my SACDs converted to PCM through my SONY Blu-ray Player's HDMI outputting to my receiver. I'm a huge fan of your channel and your sense of humour. Great video! I just upgraded my front stage for my 5.2.2 system to B&W 705 S3 bookshelfs and HTM71 S3 center on my Denon x3800H receiver. I am planning to Bi-Wire the center and considering Bi Amping the fronts, since I have those terminals unused... I mainly watch movies, but also listen to music. Do you think it's worth Bi Amping the fronts in my setup or is simply Bi-wiring the better bet? My thought is that those unused terminals are not using their amps so it's wasted power, but perhaps it's all a pool of power for all terminals and doesn't matter...

Ok - so the Queen video is now available, so how does one turn DTS-X “ON” using a Marantz Cinema50? So far, I am not seeing it on the Marantz app as a choice selection. Puzzling?

I have a good number of multi-channel SACDs. I play them on an Oppo BDP-83SE player, which has 7.1 outputs. Several years ago, when I needed a new receiver or processor, I bought the Marantz 6013, specifically because it had 7.1 inputs. Now, HDMI for multichannel is OK, and the Sony players (those that can play SACDs) have a multi-channel HDMI output. I don't think the sound is quite up to the Oppo's 7.1, but HDMI is an acceptable alternative to 7.1. Otherwise, although SACD players are available from several brands, and although they are apparently popular in Japan, only the Sony 4KHD players, among current players, can play *multi-channel* SACDs (via HDMI). Even the $7500 Marantz SA-10 is 2-channel only. It has no 7.1 or HDMI. Why does this product even exist, if it can't play multi-channel? I hadn't heard of Magnetar player until your video. I'll have to check it out, as a possible replacement for the venerable Oppo player.

Absolutely necessary if you want to use the build in Dacs. HDMI to avr might suffice with DACs are equals in sonic performance but not likely. I am using the analogue outputs from a primare B32 Blu ray player to a Marantz receiver and it sounds more solid than using HDMI.

Dire Straights Brothers in Arms SACD is an excellent SACD and on $16 on Amazon. My Whoa moment when I first listened to it was the opening of Money For Nothing. When you listen you will know it.
