another crap thing is the WiimHome app for ANDROID doesn't let you map UPnP drives, I can't for the life of me map it to my NAS, but can do it via my PC. Which is crap because the PC turns off and the NAS is always available!

Will you be doing a review of the AWOL wireless home theaters speakers that can be bundled with the projector? Andrew Robinson gave a brief summary of them and they were so horrible that he didn't think they warranted a full review. Other youtube "influencers" who have been sponsored by AWOL are giving glowing reviews. Totally contrasting opinions but it would be nice to see another non sponsored or unbiased review of the speakers that include measurements.

I will also NOT be reviewing them after having them in my home. I will be doing a community post about it soon with holiday shopping coming up. I agree with everything Andrew said in his post. I wouldn’t be so harsh on the system if they were asking about $800 for it. But $2,999? Dude…come on.

Currently living in a small flat under my parents house, and I use a traditional 5.1 system with homemade bookshelf speakers, and I don't think I'll ever downgrade from that until I have to. My AVR is a 7.1 Denon X1700H, got it on sale and was what I could afford. The only bummer is that it doesn't come with channel pre-outs, so no external amplification. Something I can live with since my space is pretty small, my front speakers are less than two metres away from me, while my side speakers are roughly a metre away.

Home theater is a journey, and you’re already on it! 😃 One step at a time. Having a traditional 5.1 system is still better than the vast majority of consumers out there that are still using their TV speakers. You’re doing just fine. 😎🎉

This needs AirPlay 2. I use it to cast to multiple systems simultaneously. Bluetooth can’t do that.

I couldn’t find a reason to get the ultra. I have a preamp and my receiver I use as an amp has streaming services. But I use Apple Music as well. So the ultra is pointless and offers nothing I don’t already have. Hoping for an actual all in one. or… Just use a Mac mini as your streamer. Even get hi res audio via the phone jack on the front io. Plus, you have a lot more ability via a computer rather than anything else. Onboard storage, endless software customization and on and on.

If the only caveat is the lack of AirPlay2, then I am good with that. I don't use that any way (or Apple Products in general. The last Apple product I had was an iPod and that left a foul taste in my mouth). I do like that it is packed with features and makes for a great pre-amp with full bass management.

Good stuff! This system is very appealing to me for my living room due to poor dimensions. I just wish they offered a center channel or some sort of an upgrade where you can buy a center channel that also could be used independently as a soundbar to justify costs of production.. I feel like my OCD would be too hung up on not having a center channel.. haha I’m also not a big fan of the current subwoofer options, Sony really needs to release a new sub... A new Sub option that had this system in mind when being designed could’ve been really cool.. All that said, it’s all promising though. I wonder how these “Home Theatre in a box” products will sound a few years from now?!
@ealanosborne

I still use a wired headset. It all started when I started hearing 320kbps MP3s. Up until then, I was only hearing 16 or 32 kbps. Then came FLAC, ALAC etc. Also, I am planning to buy Sony WH-1000XM5 headset.

How do you hook up 2 avr's together???
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 3 күн бұрын
The only way to do that is if you own an older AVR with a 7.1 channel analog input section, so you can use it as external amps. But even then, you’re still limited by how many channels an AVR can process on its own. Long story short, you really can’t hook up 2 AVRs together and make it work how you want it to.

Thanks. I was debating between a 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 setup. My second level of seats will be up against back wall. So I'm debating if the better setup would rear height on back wall/ceiling angled downward or 4 ceiling mounted atmos and no rear surround. Would it make more sense to have rear height or ceiling? Also would you assign the rear height speakers as rear surround in a 7.1.2 or as 5.1.4 rear height atmos?
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 4 күн бұрын
Yeah, I’d go with 5.1.4 since it completes the 3D immersion with 4 heights, as opposed to only 2 heights in a 7.1.2 setup. And yes, rear heights on ceiling angled down 👍🎉

@EalanOsborne : This is one of the funniest, AND most informative review videos that I have ever watched. 'Did a search for reference speaker reviews, and this was a result. I'm not sure that this setup, or any part of it, would provide what I need, as I'm looking monitors, to knock out some light sound production. By the way, if you have any suggestions, on good, budget reference monitors, new or used, I would really appreciate your sharing. Did you compose the cinematic scores, used throughout your video? Man, that was MAGICAL! Each piece made me want to listen to whatever soundtrack they might have come from, and at least download the tracks that I heard. Your audio and video editing skills showed me that there's a lot more that I want to learn. I'm hoping to do additional creative projects, and having a more diverse skillset could only be an asset. Whether any of the equipment, featured in it, would work for me, or not, I'm glad that I clicked on your video. Take Care.

To raise the height channel volume, could you just lower both the front and the rear levels? Since height can’t be adjusted if you lower all ear level output then raise volume of entire system the heights should appear louder

*correction* my bad i think in the app there is only control for the rear levels.. so my idea might not work. im not sure though, i will find out in a week when mine gets hear. going from a large house 7.2.4 (driven by onkyo rz50) system to this because im moving into a 1bed condo. wish me luck If this doesnt work out i will build a 5.1.4 in new place with a sony es5000 but ive heard the noise floor is very high with 360 mapping on, and thats the main selling point for me. im into this stuff for atmos movies and not really music listening, ive been underwhelmed by the immersiveness of my current setup. i did my best to dial it in with dirac but still not as enveloping as id like

The Magnetar is a huge rip off, don’t fall into the hype about it. I purchased one and returned it when I realized my Sony 4K Blu-ray player did almost everythings better for a fraction of the price. The only thing Magnetar did better was sound and it’s sooooo minuscule that 99% of people aren’t gonna know. The Magnetar is a mid range movie player at best.

I am thinking about this. Lot of questions tbh. But one that springs to mind atm is, those pre outs look like phone cables. Usually to get hd audio/atmos etc it goes through an hdmi cable. Surely if you are using pre outs that are phone/rca's you won't get those premium audio formats anymore?
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 8 күн бұрын
I see your concern. HDMI is merely a digital interface protocol to get both high bandwidth video AND audio signals to and from various components. But audio signals alone? Those are still dominated by analog electrical signals, since that’s what still drives speakers in the end. Positive and negative electrical signals. And like anything these days, you can find extremely expensive RCA patch cables (Mogami, for example). Are they worth their weight in gold? That’s debatable. But in the end, a solid RCA patch cable still does the job just fine, bridging the gap between an AVR and an external amp. I still wouldn’t go TOO cheap, though. And ultimately, I use XLR connections, if at all possible (personally). But that’s when you’re dealing with separate cinema processors, and not an AVR. 👍🎉
