You’re trying to connect an analog output to a digital input - electrical signals won’t register being plugged into an input that can only read ones and zeros. Does your DAC have a USB input? You should maybe try to go USB out from the Air to USB IN with your DAC. 🤞

@@ealanosborne the dac has coax, optical or usb C, but that's where my power for the dac will connect. I had heard that if you use it both for input and power, you could get some noise? Thanks for your reply. I was going from the iPad to the dac to the amp.

No, sorry. Surround backs are only possible when surrounds are also present. But if it’s just a matter of placement, you can position your surrounds as if they’re surround backs if you so choose. That’s what room correction software is for, so no matter where they’re placed, it’ll still sound balanced and the timing will be correct. ✅

@ hi, i dug deeper in the setup. but denon or dirac dont measure the angles of the loudspeakers like yamaha or trinnov. so the surrounds in a 5.1 setup cant pan sounds that should come from your back. the panning just stops, when it reaches the side of the listener and doesnt go on to the full back. it would be better to setup a 5.1 system with rear surrounds, so that the surrounds would become phantom loudspeakers, just like a missing center in a 2.0 setup. you can hear this with a noise sound panning in a rectangular at the borders of an atmos setup. a cheap disc you can test it with is "the darkside of the moon" which comes with some setup sounds, if you cant afford an expensive setup disc with measurement signals. i just extended the setup today with two active speakers to heat if a 7.4.4 is any better than a 5.4.4, and yes it is. with 7 channels sounds can come from the back, with 5 channels, its not possible.

Yeah, the 3500 supports 3D. So if you don’t mind not having support for Dolby Vision or custom integration support (like Control4) then the 3500 should be okay! 👌

@ Yeah the 3D is the same on all versions, since technically there are no 4K 3D discs, only 1080p 3D Blu-ray discs, so Dolby Vision isn’t even an option anyway. 👍 And Control4 is just a smart home company that does custom installations to make everything in your home communicate seamlessly with a single app - lights, window shades, thermostat, TV, audio devices, etc. I don’t subscribe to Control4, but there are those with expensive custom homes who do. 👍

U said the 3D is the same but with this model 3500 is brighter should be a little better on 3D viewings cuz the brightness since putting the 3D glasses on makes it dimmer.I guess compared to the lower models as it’s less bright. Dolby vision would be good for watching other contents on the projector like Netflix, Disney that’s why would be good if can update . Thx 🙏

Emotiva is still hands down the best bang for your buck when it comes to external amps. The A4 would be a good start, although the latest offering from Emotiva is the A3+ (to power your front soundstage) which has balanced XLR inputs as well, in case you happen to purchase a processor down the road that has XLR outputs (like the Tonewinner AT-300 or IOTA AVX17). 👍

By itself this would be a standard 5.1 surround sound system (along with the aide of an AV receiver). So yes, you would need to purchase additional speakers for the height channels. But you find this bundle for cheap, nowadays. You could potentially buy 2 bundles and have yourself up to a 5.2.4 Atmos system. 🎉

Well, according to Dolby (and the diagram in the link below) you could have your speakers a little bit in front of and behind your listening position, but mount them high up on the side walls pointing down at your listening position. If I remember correctly (since it’s been awhile) I don’t recall a balance feature in the app. But I believe Sony omitted that feature since that’s what 360 Spatial Sound Mapping should correct in the end. 👍

Of course! 👍 A speaker is a speaker, so you could have as many bookshelf speakers as you want. You would just need some wall/ceiling mounts for the height channels, but it is possible. 🎉

Hi! That’s exciting news! I mean I know not all off-grid scenarios are exactly the same, but yes, you can still run the house as you would any other house, pretty much. All appliances and devices that require power (being plugged into an outlet) can stay plugged in. It’s only when they are operating that they will draw power from the batteries. Surprisingly, the fridge doesn’t draw that much power. It’s the appliances that generate heat that are the ones you need to closely monitor (dryer, microwave, oven, air fryer, etc). I will say this, though - we really have to plan out when we use the dryer. We sometimes hang dry our clothes on a rack inside the house if it’s a rainy or cloudy day and we NEED to get some laundry done. Otherwise, we plan to do laundry only on sunny days. That and we can’t run the dryer and oven at the same time. Or if the AC is on in the summer, the dryer has trouble running at times. Things like that were a learning curve, for sure. But it’s made us appreciate energy usage more, and made us more aware of it (like never doing laundry at night, etc). Things you just don’t think about when you’re tied to the grid. 👍

No. That’s not necessary for a standard 4K Blu-ray player. A PlayStation 5 or XBOX Series X does, since they can output 4K/120Hz next gen gaming video signals. But in order to achieve that, your TV and/or receiver would need to support HDMI 2.1 also. 👍

So the atmos effect that the 900 is supposed to emulate isn't worth it? Is it possible to have a 3.1 system with upward firing speakers on top of the L and R bookshelf speaker? Would it improve the experience?

@@jessemorrison8661 When little 3 inch speakers are sitting below a TV shooting audio off the ceiling, it's typically a subpar attempt at adding height to the experience, in my opinion. Speakers mounted up high shooting down is best, but I totally understand not everyone can accomplish that. But yes, having a 3.1 setup and adding larger bookshelf or angled speakers on top of the L & R speakers would be better, especially if you can get speakers that have woofers at least 4.5' in diameter. 👍

That’s truly bizarre and can’t think of a specific reason since so many factors could be at play. Perhaps after you did room correction it reduced the sub levels dramatically within the software for some reason? I would double check. It’s typical to put the sub output level at 50% while performing room correction. Then make any adjustments necessary afterwards. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think so. Since you have 4 heights, they should be assigned as front and rear to make sure they’re creating a 3D bubble of sound. Typically side heights (or surround heights) are for Auro 3D configurations, or sometimes called middle heights if you have a total of 6 heights.

The Onkyo TX-NR7100 is the least expensive, yet powerful 9-channel AVR on the market right now. For speakers you could get two Klipsch 5.1 Reference Theater Packs. That way you have all the speakers you need to create a 5.2.4 setup, although you’ll have a leftover center channel and surround speaker. No biggie. As far as speakers, though, I’d actually recommend the SVS 5.1 Prime Satellite bundle + 4 Prime Elevation speakers, if budget allows. 👍

@ oh yes I did see that set up on another video. And funny enough saved it to my Amazon cart, but had no idea if that was the cheapest route or just the cheapest route thats good. Haha Thanks for the comment back! I’ve heard of crutchfield when I was younger and into car audio but never really interacted with it. Is that the go to place for audio things? Are there other sites I should be browsing. Is amazon good enough for all my needs?

@ also hate to bother you again but when researching/shopping should I be searching for 5.1.4 or 9.1? People seem to use these term interchangeably but only use the first one of you are using height speakers. In other words do all 9.1 receivers have 4 height channels?

True, Amazon can sometimes offer the same thing for cheaper, but you run the risk of getting the “Amazon treatment,” where boxes arrive damaged (which I’ve personally had happen). Not every time, though, so you might be good with Amazon. 🤷‍♂️ And yes, pretty much all 9-channel receivers these days support Dolby Atmos & DTS:X (which refers to the 5.1.4 numbers you often see now). 🎉
