Hello and thank you for the presentation. I also installed such a tablet some time ago on my father's Toyota Prius, it looks similar to yours. I'm having problems with mine. Sometimes it conflicts with the tablet on top that monitors the hybrid system, and when it does it shows almost nothing, that is, I can no longer see what is happening with the hybrid system or the consumption, and I can no longer use the climate control. I mention that there is no signal on the GPS or on the radio. When it's working I can monitor the hybrid system and access the climate control but it still has no GPS signal and no radio. What could go wrong?

Those castle nuts are a NIGHTMARE. I worked on one for an hour and a half with an air hammer to get it off. I got the second one off by using an air hammer with a pickle fork from the opposite side. It apparently stretched the threads enough for it to loosen though I'd also soaked it with Liquid Wrench for a day. For me, if I ever have to do anything again I'll just put on a new knuckle and all the other stuff. It's nice to see that I wasn't the only one that had a major problem. Every other video I've seen makes it look like a good hard sneeze would make them spin off. Thanks for the video.

I also did mine today, but left the license plate bulbs standard. Don’t like the white light. But the interior + door lights, wow what an improvement! So much better and it makes the car look fresher. Sadly the mirror lights are smaller and couldn’t find a led bulb for it. Haven’t checked the trunk light, but I bet it’s just as good.

Not sure if i missed it but did you use the bmw valve body? Really good video ive never seen anybody put any care or effort into an automatic for an e46 haha. Are you going to use the stock TCU? From what ive seen they have been reversed engineered and you can change most of the tables

I am curious if all those firm shift upgrades will make it less comfortable. When I go through this it won’t be as rebuilt as you went being a racecar vs my daily/softroader x5. This will be great reference material for people years to come!

@@michaelblacktree I promise it doesn’t. It has the same bell housing you have and a different output shaft for the T case, but BMWs never got the 5l50e in anything at least from this era. We only got the 2nd revision valvebodies in 2003-2006 model x5s while Cadillac got the third revisions.

The ZF 8HP series transmissions are a popular upgrade. They can handle some serious power. But they're more expensive. You'll also need a lot of custom parts, and an aftermarket trans controller.

Super Clean! Very satisfying to watch the transmission transformation during the cleaning process. It's always nice to put clean, shiny parts back onto your car. Also great that you're documenting this process. There are a ton of videos on manual swaps, manual trans maintenance, etc., and although my E46 is a manual, there is a lot of value in having information out there for both transmission types.
@michaelblacktree

Thank you. Yes, there are a bajillion videos on manual swapping an E46. How many videos on building a trick auto? I've been driving cars with manual transmissions for almost 4 decades, and will continue to do so. But I saw an opportunity to step off the beaten path, and try something different. So I took it. All that being said, if this doesn't work out, I'll probably manual swap it.

What's the estimated cost for the trans project?
@michaelblacktree
@michaelblacktree 21 күн бұрын
So far, I've spent about $1300. That includes both GM transmissions, master rebuild kit, Sonnax boost valve, Transgo kit, the transmission wiring harness and TCU, driveshaft, center support bearing, transmission crossmember, and the giant snap ring pliers. I still need to make an adapter bracket for the trans mount, and get some ATF. So the final price will be a little higher. The goal of this project was to build an automatic that's stronger than stock, is mostly bolt-in, and is relatively cheap. But if you're looking for something that can handle serious power, you should look into the ZF 8HP series. And you'll need to spend some $$$.

I've been using Ceratec in my Honda after every engine oil change (and not after every 50,000 kms as suggested by Liqui Moly) and I've noticed marked improvement in engine idling vibration, smoothness while driving and improved fuel economy. For me more that than it paying back in terms of money, if there is less internal friction, the engine will last me longer with better driving characteristics and that will be the biggest payback for me.

Thanks for the video and detailed instructions! I have all my parts and tools other than new MFactory bearings. ECS/Turner unfortunately shipped the kit with seals and ring gear bolts without the bearings, and there seems to be an inventory issue. I was on the fence on replacing the bearings due to the cost, but now that availability is a bigger challenge then expected; did you test the bearings for proper movement and they seemed okay? Just trying to make the right decision and not grenade my new LSD. Any recommendations and guidance you can provide would be helpful!

and yes That Motor Oil geek thing is right, We won't see any of these guys like Chris, Lake, EE and many others using an oil additive. Changing with a high quality full synthetic with high quality additives is the best decision. Rest assured I will never recommend using a heavy lower grade unless your car eats a huge amount of oil. Even these testers who do this stuff for living recommend a high mileage motor oil of the same grade. For you car I'll Recommend Mobil,Amsoil ( obviously it's crazy expensive at some places ) and especially Pennzoil as it's budget friendly ultra premium oil. Just go for the high mileage full synthetic.

there was no resistor in the package with the tablet, so says the former owner. if I buy a separate resistor and install it, all the other functions should work, not just the climate, right? I mean to see how the battery is charged, to see the fuel consumption, etc. is it true did I understand correctly?
