BMW E46 Project: M56 Valve Cover Install, featuring Super Clean

In this video, I'm going to install an M56 valve cover on my M54B30 engine. Also, my car has the MS43 ECU and the old style bolt-down ignition coils. So I had to retrofit the pencil coils and wiring harness.

Do you plan to install an oil catch can? If so, could you upload a video explaining how to install it with the m56 cover? I have an e46 sulev that has the m56 engine but I don't know if it is a good idea to install an oil catch

IMO a catch can would be redundant, since the M56 valve cover basically has a catch can built into it.

Aside from the looks, what's the benefit of swapping this particular valve cover? I get that M56 is a low-emissions variant of M54B25, but is it like beefier, stronger structurally or something?

It's less likely to crack or warp. So less risk of oil leaks, or lean trouble codes.

Now that you have the m56 valve cover, have you considered a centrifugal type supercharger? The OE valvecover never holds a seal with boost and the ccv system doesn’t hold up whatsoever to the extra crank case pressures. I’ve heard people get better fuel economy out of these engines with superchargers and town driving just because of how heavy they are you could see better low rpm acceleration/efficiency

Centrifugal superchargers mostly boost top end power. But I do have a couple Eaton M90 blowers...

@@michaelblacktree I know there’s a few kits of the centrifugal type, but if you’ve already got that roots one then go with that. The custom fab would be much cheaper than any of those kits I bet. They usually max out around 10psi in the kits to play nice with stock bottom ends just for reference

I bought the M56 PCV hose and modified it.

I used 5/8" braided hose. Heater hose may not handle the exposure to engine oil.

@@imestia7911 it has the CCV system already inside of it, and the material won't crack or warp like plastic.

Done this swap a while ago just wondering did u put in spark plug recess ignition coil guide part 11127575422 since they are pencil style now even tho sites say it’s for newer bmws only?

No. The M5x series engines don't use coil guides.
