FYI I ordered one of the Adventura UL kids directly from Aero Adventures in Florida in 2022 and it was a terrible experience. They shipped it months after they said they would and then it arrived all smashed and had to be rejected and then we never got a replacement. Months later I asked for a refund which they said would be no problem but it's been a couple years now since then and I keep bothering them and get no refund and have not gotten any response at all for a long time now. Terrible customer service, totally stressful and not recommended. I made a KZbin with lots more details for anyone considering doing business with them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHSvnaSapNuqqassi=LYkngomlAmbkFDtP

It is among the faster light sports, 914 doing around 350km/h at 10k and it is then all the more striking that the wide cabin side by side Risen is even more efficient. You'd think the sleek tandem is a guaranteed win but aerodynamics is a very particular lady. And yes the prices have become ridiculous, for the Risen too but they don't have to be. Indeed the Risen is such a relatively simple formula that all the makers should make their own approximate copy. You don't need the massive motorized canopy, note that the pilots sit well behind the peak of the canopy so it's unnecessarily large. Pilots and wings could be shifted forward, front glass could be static and have SR22 style doors. As touched on in this video, if the plane is very light you don't really need flaps which significantly simplifies the construction. A clever single piece fuselage in a quality mold that requires no finishing can really reduce cost. A good fly by wire system could also greatly simplify the mechanics and has natural autopilot functionality. Combined with a parachute I believe it can be the way forward. It's an engineering responsibility but really advances things. Replacing Rotax would also be good. If Garmin could make a G4x that has "nav" built in we wont have to replace them. I know it's blasphemic to the GA conditioned but there is no reason a Risen equivalent should cost more than 50k. Certainly viable within 100k. And it's not hard to imagine a 2+2 seater variant.

@@mauriceevans6546 hot tubs retail for 2500$ with everything. Complex fiber glass form, cosmetic surface, plumbing, pumps, lights. And that includes store profits. So these guys can't make a winged canoe with a VW engine for less than 300k? do you have any idea what brand name carbon fiber cloth costs? or do you trust your sheep hunches on pricing... try doing some napkin math, get some insight. Your conclusions will be more informed. Like mine.

@@DanFrederiksen 3K plain weave, 50" x 300ft about $3500 :)
@DanFrederiksen17 күн бұрын
@@larryblanco8056 yeah that's roughly 30$/m2, not much different from cloth for a dress. You don't specify the weight of it which also matters but serves as an example. Easycomposites offer a 450g/m2 Mitsubishi twill for 23$/m2. If we say a plane like this Shark might need 150m2 that's 3450$. With resin that would weigh about 70kg. You can get a Northwind 20' carbon fiber canoe with 4 seats, nice finish, 1000lbs load rating for 4k$, close to the length of the Shark. Carbon fiber canoes can't be an absurdly large market so they can't claim mass production. So does aviation absolutely have to land on 300k for a small plane. Or is that comfortable 4x overpricing.

I wonder how much slower a fixed-gear variant would cruise. Often, the extra maintenance & insurance costs are not worth the marginal gains in airspeed, not to mention the increased weight of retractable-gear.

You can tell the guy has a long list of customers willing to pay $400K for the plastic toy kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4CZoJuGlrKegbM. But $327K for basic VFR, seriously? One would build Velocity Twin for this budget and have true 200kt luxury 4 seats cruiser. What a time to be alive. One advise as a pilot: don't buy this fancy looking carbon shell unless you test-fly it. And have a mechanic who can serve your A/P for an acceptable price. Not many of them are happy to work on messy Rotax engines.

Great interview Dan. There something i want to ask you because you interview so many designers maybe you can help me i asked so many but they don't know or don't want to tell. Why do the designers of some light aircraft and even some Bush aircraft attach there Ailerons lower to wing what is there reason for that would love to know.
@DanJohnsonAffordableAviationАй бұрын
Each designer may have reasons of their own, but a common answer is that the structure can better accommodate control surfaces on the lower wing; control linkages may be more easily configured.
