I remember listening to one of his songs when driving to work with the sun in my eyes ,maybe '65 , on a 4-lane which was new there in S.C. and lucky for me and the other driver ,an older woman, I always drove in the right lane and she had the left lane ,but going in the wrong direction ! It scared the heck out me for we both probably could have died that day ! Don't believe in bragging, don't think God wants us to brag . I have driven for 70 yrs with no accident ,but unless God gives me a little medical miracle I will stop driving very soon ! No doubt my Lord has protected me and back then I was too dumb to thank him ! Roger's songs were really liked across our America back then and it's a shame what has happen to her !

Little known fact, in an interview, Marty was asked if the rider was shot because he had killed the cowboy. Robbins stated that the killing was justified as it was a duel of sorts. The rider was shot and killed for horse theft.

As a Christian this old song is true to life , but I would not look for a wife in a bar ! Although some of those girls that work and need to ARE Gold Nuggets sure enough ! My beautiful wife of 62 yrs. came from a sharecropper family ( Johnny Cash was a sharecropper ,too ) ,she went to heaven in January this yr. and this half of the joined flesh is still crying sometime each day and really talking to God about the unbearable pain to live with .

I play this song and love it, but the fellow who he sings about could not have been a very good friend to take off with the girlfriend and she was not worth having if she was that hot to trot. Love all of Jims songs. My problem is that when I play most of Jim Reeves songs I cry tears so I have to remember the music. The music lives on. JennyB.
