I think we need more underground pylons which are less susceptible to terrorist attack and less of an eyesore on the environment

My uncle was station manager and on weekends had the full oversight. I was very lucky as a kid to get a full tour as a spotty 13yr old. Very cool to see the turbine floor and see the nitrogen tanks to start the turbines incase of stoppage and needing to get things going again. Visited the towers and go to pop my.head in one and look up as was just cold water running. Also go to go see the coal trains in the shed area. Got to go upto main control room. Many years later i still lioe all things electrical 😂must run in family😊 Was a very memorable experience 😊😊

3:47 A nice example of how traffic jams are formed. Take a look at the asshole VW driver not anticipating and having a last realization that he has to take an exit. He almost stops in the middle of the highway to take the exist. This means multiple cars behind him have to hit the brakes hard to stop, which creates a traffic jam. Coincidentally this is also how you get accidents

Seems so strange driving past there now seeing the flat land where the coal pile has stood for as long as I can remember. I wonder why they don't utilise these sites for the new small modular reactors that seem to be gaining traction? The infrastructure's already there and I can't imagine the sites being suitable for much else with the contamination there must be everywhere.

But as you can clearly see from the shot of the A10 Zuidas, there is way more room for trains than cars, and when I was there (during rush hour like last week), the trains were also way more full than the A10

I wonder if the mention of lighter construction pylons is cause for concern? Is saving cost justified when considering exceptional wind conditions could cause the phenomenon of galloping conductors. Replacement of cables and insulators is nowhere near as difficult as repairing towers too

Really hope the chimney and cooling towers are saved from demolition. I live about 10 miles away from the power station and I simply cannot imagine life without those structures.

Linemen are really professional and brave men, they climb these pylons and service the insulators and repair cables and lines while they are energytized.

Ofcourse we have cars and motorways too. Our country is small but still to big to cycle to every place in it. Also, our population has grown from 14 million in the eighties to 18 million now, so more cars on the road. And then there is the number of women that have a job that is much higher today, just like wealth in general. All helping traffic growth. But still, if we Dutch did cycle or use public transport as little as, say, people in the USA, there would have been way more multiple lane highways, more traffic jams, more exhaustfumes etc.

This Viduct goes back to the early day's of the Railway Mania when nthe Oxford and Wolverhampton Railway/ Great Western Railway did not hve their own station in Birmingham and were trying to get permision off the London & Birmingham Railway ? LNWR to see if the GWR could run their trains over this viaduct and into the new Birmingham New Street but this fell through and the GWR built Birmingham Snow Hill Station for their trains and this vderelict viaduct has stood ever since never ever having had a train run over it and there has never been a station at Digbeth unless you mean the Midland Red Coach Station

I have the ULTIMATE IDEA! rather than demolishing this precious landmark or keep it standing because of costs, let's turn it into the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station Museum, as although we want rid of fossil fuels in the UK and worldwide, we cannot let these 142 years of coal-generated energy go to waste! And it would be great to see INSIDE a coal-power station IRL! Plus it would bring tourism to the area and we'll turn the coal delivery line into a heritage railway! A great tourist attraction, and a reminder to younger generations what we used to do and how we've improved the sustainability of our electricity generation over the years!

Slightly inaccurate or misleading. Surely most domestic homes at least in the UK are 230 volts at the outset. In many commercial properties & factories the 400 v applies. In such a 3 phase supply , sometimes you'll see a sign on a wall saying 400 volts between supplies or whatever the wording. As far as I understand this is a way of splitting it into 2 domestic supplies of 230 each. Admittedly I am not sure about slight mathematical discrepancy!

don’t tear down the building that houses all the connections to the power grid. If you tear it down with permits and loss of time, three years would be $13 million. Clear the rest of the property for solar and wind turbines build a battery backup station in your can hook right up to the grid probably three years

The amount of people commenting that HS2 is not needed is nothing short of staggering as they clearly have no understanding of the transport needs of this country. Would they have been just as vocal when the first motorways were proposed? Would it have been "but we already have roads, we don't need more...", no, didn't think so. The WCML is simply full and the extra capacity that HS2 would give is very much needed. No one is pretending that they haven't got things right all the time, especially the PR team who focused too much on the high speed element when they should have promoted it as the much needed capacity alleviation. The high speed element just future proofs it over its planned life span. I just wished people would take the time to do just a little bit more research before venting off. Building more roads is not the solution.
