Yes sir, per the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) most are descendants of animals that were released or escaped from Spanish explorers, ranchers, miners, the U.S. Cavalry and Native Americans. Pretty cool story and up in north AZ there are a ton of wild horses as well.

If they raise the fees then campers would simply live outside the BLM land and be dumping and trashing the place. It would also send the homeless residents of BLM land into town.

THANK YOU, this video is the only one who has approached this as an adult and through a critical thinking. I see the other nomad videos and the comments and they are full of entitlement, politics and just nonsense. Ill start with the continued absurdity of bashing of government by people who live on government managed land? The facts are the fees have not increased since 2008, these run at a deficit, and the money goes to improve the facilities, that the very people who are complaining use exclusively. Thats what gets lost people mention taxes, when i visit any public lands i'm expected to pay a fee, period, but none of them are exclusive to one small group of people like an LTVA thats a big difference. There is simply no where you can live with services provided for less than $100 a month and its simple it doesn't matter what people like or want or what money they have it cost what it cost and the BLM is not out to get anyone. I appreciate you bringing up the people gaming the system by getting one permit; but there is wear and tear on public lands that belong to all and the trash, junk vehicles and cleanup also cost. None of the other videos mention any of that, when did people stop being adults, if people CHOOSE to stay here, then they agree to abide by the rules and cost, how is this such a hard concept? Id be curious to know where they stay and what they spend the rest of the year.

I feel the $600 is reasonable. It isn't a matter of what the fee was. They were losing money before. Under $3 a day for water, dump, restrooms, and a place to stay. Appreciate you aren't as critical as others. There is still free camping all over the place. If you don't need the services, stay somewhere else for free.

Yuma field office manages 1.2 million acres of southwestern Arizona and southeastern California BLM land, not just the LTVAs (according to the BLM website). So the estimated number of visitors is for all of the land that Yuma is responsible for. Also, the $600 isn't the end of the line. The proposal further says, "In addition, the BLM proposes to adopt a model to increase fees by 20% (then rounded) whenever the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U), US City Average, All Items, 1982-84=100, not seasonally adjusted, rises by 20%." That means that, if the CPI rises by 20% next year, the fee will increase to $720. And the proposal doesn't say anything about the fee being lowered at any point, so it can just increase into perpetuity. It's ridiculous.

I swear I did 5 min. of research on google but could'nt find it, If you are only there for 4 months, is the fee rated for that duration? Meaning it would be $300. Or is it a onetime fee of $600 regardless when you show up?
@doggonenomads
@doggonenomads 3 ай бұрын
You pay the one-time fee when you arrive which in the proposal would be $600. If you leave the next day they will not refund the fee. You can do the short term which, in their proposal is $200 for a month, lol. It's like a rock and a hard spot

Excellent, concise, thorough video Charles. Thank you. The question that popped into my head is: What government agency supports itself entirely based on it's own revenue? Is there one? I have been told that some state parks operate on their own budgets, but I seriously doubt that. Why would the BLM want to balance their budget solely on the backs of the permits? Don't get me started on having to pay to get into any local, state or federal park that we as citizens already own collectively. Charles, I don't believe they expected anyone to dive deep into that proposal like you have. You didn't just find errors, you found serious discrepancies. They are basing their ask upon misleading information, almost looks to me like they are purposely wang-jangling the data so that its very difficult to extrapolate the true, factual accounting (a word salad with numbers). Thank you for posting this. I hope a million people see this video. I'm sharing it everywhere I can. Such a great video - I appreciate the effort and time it took to dive down this horrific rabbit hole. One more thing, - why do I, as a single dude, no kids, have to pay taxes to support a local school system that I don't benefit from? Every house/condo I've owned I've had to pay this tax where the house/condo was sitting. If you didn't want to pay that tax, well then you need to buy a house somewhere else. WTF? If you're going to charge us to use OUR own land for recreation, put aside some of our tax dollars - every tax paying citizen,. What's that? We already do pay taxes for OUR public land? Oh, and you want us to pay a fee on top of this too? Damn Charles, you struck a nerve with this video. Thank you again. God help us all, everyone of us.

We’re definitely on the same page! I was just wondering yesterday if the government is trying to act like a business. Last I checked, they weren’t! Thanks for sharing the video-Oh by the way I found something else with the document (Recreation Fee Program Spending and Accomplishment Highlights) listing multiple revenue streams for 2023 and the carryover funds. Oddly, the proposal on page 23 says there’s little to no carryover for emergencies, yet that document specifically states there was $409,426.27 in carryover funds! I'm single as well with no kids and have been yelling at the top of my lungs the same thing for years, why am I paying for someone else's kids to go to school?!?! Thanks again!

Did you see the automatic fee increase of 20% tied to CPI increase? Also view the drone footage of LTVA monthly done on a Utube channel. That will show how crowded it has been. If someone with better equipment/ skills than I can freeze frame it and compare month count to month count..I am pretty sure it will show WAY WAY more rigs than permit claims. Personally I drove most LTVA everyday and saw the HUGE amount of rigs in LTVA's. I did however discover the crazy number of 3.5 for non self contained vehicles..aka van types...it is a loophole possibly of multiple vehicles on 1 permit not from same family. Personally I believe close loopholes and enforce permits before fee increases. That you for video..gives me new directions to explore to stop this blatant money grab. Because if it passes next increases are built in...$720 will be next newest fee without a require public comment time as it will pass when this...thing ..is approved

@edwillis-m4q I did not see the automatic rate increase. I find it odd that the blm has looked at the market cost for surrounding areas. I didn't know public land was in competition with the private market. This just keeps looking worse and worse. I can compare year over year for the last five. Every year, I enquire about attendance from local businesses and have a ballpark figure. I can speculate a few reasons why blm would want to price people out, but I know one thing: they're not telling the truth.

I'd like to see this BLM LTVA budget audited by a third party FIRST. Then, propose an incremental fee increase. Like New Mexico, which strangely enough wants their annual out of state pass to go from $225 to $600, it's the businesses that will suffer the most right away because the BLM is counting on one third of the people to pay the $600, two thirds will go else where. They want to generate the same amount of money but have two thirds the expense and trouble. So, businesses dry up, the one third discover they can't get groceries and gas because they went under, so then the whole system collapses. You gotta do this incrementally. Lessen the pucker factor. Thank you for the video, maybe try to have information prepared first instead of freestylin', put info on the screen, makes a shorter video with more impact. Just my two cents, everyone has an opinion, right? 😁. I appreciate your efforts and honest video.
@doggonenomads
@doggonenomads 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the suggestions. The reason I didn't take that approach is because my last video was filmed indoors, and I wanted to shoot this one with a beautiful outdoor background. That’s a good point, though-I definitely would have been more prepared staying behind the screen. As for the audit, I’d absolutely love to see that happen, but realistically, we know the government won’t go for it-it would bring too much transparency. I hope someone proves me wrong. Another thing to consider: if you think people are overstaying the 14-day free camping limit now, just wait until they’re required to pay $600. There won’t be enough law enforcement or rangers to enforce it! Additionally, great point coming from the business perspective as well, I didn't think about that!
@peaksandpieces
@peaksandpieces 3 ай бұрын
@@doggonenomads I didn't think of the over-stay problem they will have. Very good point. The ticket may be cheaper than the monthly charge. I'd REALLY like to know how our government got so fucked up. I was a kid in the 80's but I don't remember shit like this going on. I too am a veteran, four years on an aircraft carrier working for the judge, and yeah, I saw some pretty awful mismanagement, less than ethical behavior regarding ship policy (which I will not get into publicly), and more things swept under the rug that, well never mind. I'm just sayin' this BLM thing is just a little fish in an ocean of problems that, I'll say it - won't be fixed without a reset. Kudos for the outdoor background for the video Charles. Brother, the yuma field office brings in over 100 million dollars each year. Where has all that money gone since 2008? Now they want to increase 233% to pay for infrastructure improvements? Sorry bro, but this doesn't pass the smell test. One must look at service provided for fees paid. The LTVA'S have been mismanaged and funds have been used elsewhere. Most people were under the impression that fees would go up from 180 to 300, a 120 dollar increase. A reasonable amount for sure, provided services and maintenance were taken care of. We all know each year, trash service was subpar, allowing copious amounts of trash to blow across the desert. Maintenance is also subpar and not in a timely manner. The list goes on with issues regarding the LTVA'S. The ol saying " you get what you pay for " doesn't seem to be the case in this situation.
@doggonenomads
@doggonenomads 3 ай бұрын
Where did you find the information about the $100 million annual profit? That would be helpful in building a case against the fee increase. I was able to locate their budget but couldn't find details on their actual revenue. The only information I found was that the YFO does not publicly report specific profits. As I mentioned in my video, I'm always skeptical of anything run by the government. Last year, I didn't even use the water (got it from Yuma), which makes me wish there were different pricing tiers, since not everyone needs access to all three services (trash, dump, water).

I wonder if you were referring to the 9,192 LTVA Program ISRP Permits that were issues in 2024, stated on Page 17? For some crazy reason I was thinking they get revenue elsewhere but I don't think they do. That means last year they made $1,654,560 on LTVA permits between La Posa and Imperial Dam. Keep in mind this does NOT count their standard yearly budget!
@rvfreedomtrail
@rvfreedomtrail 3 ай бұрын
@@doggonenomads it was about doing some rough math. I can't find the yuma office yearly revenue either. These are conservative numbers. 800,000 people come to the yuma district each year and buy a seasonal pass at 180. That's 144 million dollars annually. No we know many people buy a short term pass or two so I reduced that buy 44 million dollars giving them the benefit of the doubt. I didn't even use your figure of 890,000. I'm trying to stay on the conservative side, but this blm district still brings in over 100 million a year. The LTVA'S is a huge cash cow with little to no upgrades over the past decade. Lucky to get a little gravel on the roads on certain years. My question is, where's the money? Even if you cut those numbers by half, where's the money? I'm with you, the government can't manage anything. I subbed your channel because I like your style. At least you are looking into the numbers. Just need to dig a little deeper. My guess is the money went to the government general fund and used elsewhere despite the blm claiming funds collected in a area stay in that location. Where's the money from the last decade? Thank you, I appreciate it! I JUST mentioned this in the other comment to you. You nailed it-one of the top reasons I got my motorcycle was for scouting. Even when you find a great spot, it's still fun to scout around for other cool places nearby.

Just ran across your channel and this is first video of your’s I’ve seen. First off, that’s a lot of pup’s you got. Good on ya. Love it. Bet you have hair everywhere. Nice walk-thru and explanation of your Toy-Hauler. I am trying to do same as you. I got the travel/overlanding/dispersed camping itch a couple years ago. Went with a slide-in truck camper and utility trailer for SxS. Works well for me but I have aspirations of working remote and boondocking similar as you showed in this video. Gonna sell slide-in and upgrade to a toy hauler. It is being built now. It will be bumper pull 24’-0”; with 8’-0” living area at nose and 16’-0” garage in rear for SxS. All amenities; cooktop, oven, MW, fridge, heat, 2 TV’s, stereo, dual A/C, shower, 100 gal fresh, 100 gal grey, 50 gal gasoline, 90 gal propane & 800watt solar. I have 2 Chesapeake’s as travel/riding companions, and I love taking them out. I have small Dometic RM2354 3-way Fridge in my truck camper. As long as it is level, this thang works well for me. Frozen stuff stays frozen and beer stays cold in bottom. I have run mine 9 days non-stop 24-7 on propane and only burned ¾ of a 20lb tank. It does take 12-18 hours to get down to temp setting’s if it has been off. Just a suggestion. Keep on rocking and posting the pup’s in your videos, gonna go watch another now. rowdy

Absolutely, sometimes I sit down and think, "Wow, that is a lot of dogs!" But they are my family, and I would do anything for them. Yes, hair is everywhere! In my opinion, you are making the right choice. If I had the time, I would have bought a nice enclosed trailer, perhaps a Rock Solid, and customized it to my needs. I was in a rush because I sold my house, so as soon as it sold, I had to hit the road. I think I mentioned this but one of the main reasons I opted for a bumper pull is that if something happens to my truck, I still have a place to stay, and if something happens to my toy hauler, I can stay in my truck. Thanks for the heads-up on the Dometic; I’m going to check it out now! Even with the Yeti 110, I still have to add ice every few days, so I’m spending money on ice and gas to drive back and forth. Some locations, like where we are now, are about 45 minutes from the nearest gas station. Working remotely has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. When do you think you’ll be finished with your build?

@@doggonenomads Yea man, my two chessies are family too. lol. Crazy, Goofy, Mischievous, Funny, Female magnets, Companions and can be a hassle sometimes too. But in the end, hell I love to see them out. Would'nt have it any other way. I contacted a Custom Toy Hauler Builder, and we started a design with the axle ratings, then the tire size and rating, then trailer frame cross-brace spacing and worked up. Took a month or so going back and forth on how I wanted layout and what accessories/wiring I wanted installed and where. Finalized in April 2024 and added to their production schedule. Set to be complete for pick-up end of Oct. this year 2024. Yea, my PROS: of going to Toy Hauler from Slide-In Truck Camper & Trailer is: #1 I can unhitch truck and drive away if needed. #2 SxS and equipment are inside, locked, out of sight vs being on open utility trailer at gas station, or rest stop or grocery store. #3 Once SxS is out of back garage, I have my man cave with deck. Cons: #1 I will not be able to get into small primo dispersed camping spots along creeks or tight roads or bluffs like the truck camper. #2 I will need to be very diligent about scouting routes in forest or BLM areas to allow for turning around.

@@ChesapeakeBayProductions It sounds like you’ve got everything under control! Just remember, even with a toy hauler, you’ll still be able to reach some incredible places. Almost everywhere we’ve been has been absolutely amazing! As for scouting, I mentioned this in one of my other videos, but I learned some hard lessons when I first started. Once, while in Quartzsite, I got the sudden urge to head to Colorado. I did some research (though not enough), loaded up the dogs, and drove for about 10 hours straight. I arrived at my destination around 1 a.m., only to find it was on top of a snow-covered mountain with a locked gate. I had to jack-knife my trailer to get out, which ended up bending my propane rack and damaging my tailgate. From that trip, I learned two key things: #1 - Just because it’s 75 degrees and sunny in Arizona doesn’t mean it’ll be the same in Colorado at 10,000 feet, lol. #2 - Don’t drive more than 3-5 hours at a time. Now, I travel during the day, usually on a Wednesday or Thursday, and if I’m unsure about the area, I’ll unhook my trailer at the entrance to the national forest (most have large turn-around spots) and scout it out first. The last thing I want is to get stuck on a mountain with no way to turn around. Speaking of Quartzsite, your trailer will be ready just in time if you want to head out to Quartzsite or Yuma. You can stay at the long-term visitor area for about $180 from November to April, which includes trash and water-a pretty sweet deal!

We made it last night and went into steamboat a few hours ago. Hit up Hypnotic Chicken and almost passed out. Six tenders with a drink was $25! I'll definitely ask about it, what a beautiful area!

Blink, I have a camera inside and one on the front and both sides of the trailer as well, but most of the time they go with me even when buying groceries or shopping

How does the trailer do off highway being so low to the ground? Do you drag the back ?

Yes I do drag sometimes and that is my biggest complaint. I think I talked about this in the video about trying to get the trailer lifted a few inches.
