In terms of new mediums, you could try acrylic inks maybe? I really like it. It's a lot like watercolors, you apply it in transparent layers. But unlike watercolors it doesn't reactivate the layers underneath. And you can also use it directly to draw lines with, like with a either a brush or a dip pen (be it glass or metal).

I second the acrylic ink recommendation! I'm a printmaker and HIGHLY recommend (if you want to experiment and maybe revisit printmaking) using the pink rubber blocks for your carving and the acrylic inks to print with! You can take your carved block and then brush the acrylic inks directly on the block and then press the block to your paper of choice. It gives your prints a fun, unique-ever-time watercolor effect. Very fun! Would love to see you try it if you're still open to printmaking

Warning: pink rubber is soft and will push out of the way of your carving tool if it's not sharp enough. If you use the speedball carving tool with changeable blades, I recommend buying a new lil pack of blades before you try out the pink block

i actually have used acrylic inks before!! it wasn't my favorite, but i could definitely revisit it!!

@@Lilstarnerd I needed some time to figure them out but I really like them now :) a word of advice: watercolor paper is really necessary to work ell with them! They look really dull on any other paper but they have the cleanest , brightest colors I've ever seen on good cotton paper!

My 2024 goals are: Read 12 books (currently read 11) Self-publish my debut novel V (in need of proofreading, formatting and a cover still) Edit my other novel SG (haven't made much progress) Draft urban fantasy novel DS (Started that but little progress) Learn Japanese: 200 kanji at least (working on this every day, have went through 240 kanji so far) In July I added an art related goal: make a new coloring book (working on Pirate theme for boys, made 7 linearts so far) Thank you for the video, it was helpful for me to see I am not the only one struggling a bit with some things :)

I think the mindset you have about not reaching your goals cause you were busy is very good and healthy and so is setting new goals. I kinda wanna give my 2 cents/personal experience/advice about the latter cause it reminded me of stuff I did and ended up struggeling with (but feel free to adjust/irgnore them): I think what you might really benefit from is setting time aside per week to work on specific art things. sum up how much time you get to spend painting per week and then divide it (adjust the percentages and/or categories as needed): 40% is just drawing for YT videos, 30% is focused studies on the topics you wanna improve on, 30% is doodles for fun in a private sketchbook you don't plan on ever posting anything from (best do this also not in the studio so it doesn't feel like work). Specifying the goal of each painting session has really helped me and not posting everything takes off pressure. cause you can draw the same 5 things over and over and noone cares. the goal is for you to have fun! And another thing from someone who also struggles to finishes things once some time has passed: it's okay not to finish them! don't finish them for the sake of finishing cause (at least for me) sometimes the original spark doesn't come back and makes that process miserable and I waste so much time procrastinating that I could spend drawing something else instead because I tell myself I have to finish the other thing first. Sometimes its good to finish it, sometimes its in the way; it kinda depends on what your original goal was (e.g. I finish drawing courses with the goal of learning (if i actually learn something from it), I don't finish that one personal piece I started a year ago and am not excited about anymore)

In the realm of like character design and exploring creativity don’t be so hard on yourself, art is your pasion but also your work and you can say that you are just doing those subjects in vídeo and not in your free time, but you need free time to be have the energy to do it so much about art is about having fun when we start art as kids we never think about not doing enough and this is not an attack I know that’s your way of thinking and that’s ok but give yourself time and even if you are just doing in vídeos your still doing it and that’s something to be proud of

This reminds me of when I illustrated my first picture book - it was such a large project and much bigger than expected. I also felt it was ALL I could do until it was finished. In the end I felt really burned out because I didn't put any time into my passion projects and self care. It is a learning curve in multiple ways.

I think you should switch your plain air mindset to an urban sketching mindset instead. It really is similar but the mindset is so much funnier and freer I really think it would help and be something that you can truly enjoy. Plus, there is a massive urban sketching community that would tune in for it. It doesn’t have to be a city landscape either. ❤ just a thought

Love this video and I feel for ya 💚 I'm learning about myself that I simply can't focus on more than one *big* project at once. It's too overwhelming and makes me too anxious, so that even if I have time to work on both I just won't, and will instead worry about the one that's "more important". It's a frustrating way to be a maker considering how refilling the creative well works!

On new mediums, tempura pain. Like, make your own pain with egg yoke and pigment. It's apparently quite similar to oil color but doesn't last as long

I totally understand what you meant i have that problem tho ..maybe try something new you didnt draw at all try some challenges try to draw in a mount every two or tree days try painting stuff you havent or you didnt try .....take your time maybe you just didnt find what you want to do yet so try things whatevee that were because art is about having fun without rules❤
