I'm pretty sure normal people aren't going to be able to get to the water in Whomp's Fortress. Maybe amazing parkour freaks could triangle jump near the beginning and pull themselves up, but the other way needs you to jump up those giant stairs while dodging thwomps. Also, you have to go down pretty deep to even get into the tunnel. Experienced freedivers might be able to get that deep, but I doubt the average person would be able to survive the pressure.

I think you can survive in Cool Cool Mountain's cabin. Though very large most of the area is if my memory serves, underground. This means that the majority of it is heavily insulated by the ground itself. Which in turn means the main place where you can expect heat to be lost is at that small little top bit that's above the ground, in other words it is just as easy as warming a tiny cabin. Except, because of the extra underground portion it will take longer to warm it in the first place, once you get it warm keeping it that way should be no problem but getting it warm is a whole different story. If you make it past the first little stretch, you'll then have a warm place from then on that can maintain heat for quite some time after you leave.

If you just grab a star and go back to the castle? You aren't stuck in a level forever, if you grab a star, alongside some food and 1-ups, you can essentially live forever.

Personally, I would count 1ups as both food and water since 1ups refill fludd.

40:09 correction, holding our breath isnt the only thing preventing us from getting there. Diving through water this deep makes the human body suffer significant water pressure which can pop ears and fuck up our lungs due to the air inside contracting and expanding. The human body would probably have to go through unsurvivable atmospheres of pressure to get there and would end up with severe decompression sickness when going back up. Not fun
