I have one of those in my 24' X 32' shop and it will maintain the heat once I bring it up to temp with my torpedo heater (takes about 15 minutes) My electric bill doesn't seem to be effected much because I only use it for around 6 hours a day or so. They are quiet and really work well! I installed and wired mine myself and had it inspected for insurance purposes.

I agree, your comment is my exact sentiment too. After one cleans a steel surface like this, to protect it, if it's a 'working surface', you can't lacquer it with clear paint because that would be ruined instantly. My solution works well for me: I make a very thick liquid/paste that is a mixture of butcher block wax and mineral oil (NOT mineral spirits, but rather mineral OIL). Wipe it on. This will protect really well for many years if dry environment, but it will even protect 2 or 3 years in a humid environment. Finally, rust will began reappearing, and I hit it again with scotch-brite, which will very quickly do its thing, and then I reapply my mixture. I don't have a ratio for mixing the wax with the mineral oil, I just make it sort of thick like toothpaste I guess. I'm a fan of restored 'vintage lathes', like the ones done by Dennis Turk, and I'm always admiring of that bright, very bright steel he always achieves. Against a nice coat of paint, this just looks great.

Yeah, the table saw I just bought makes that thing look shiny new from the start, lol. I have the distinct feeling I'm going to be sanding a whole lot longer.

The problem starts when you want to keep your machine accurate, as all those methods you showed are using abrasive materials.

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice kzbin.infoUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

vinegar with a little bit of dish detergent and a stainless steel pot scrubber works for me. won't rust if you wipe it dry right away because of the residual vinegar.

Thanks for the great video! My husband took the band saw out of our shed the other day and was so upset to see the rust all over the surface. Our son gave it to him, so he's pretty upset. We're going to try this tomorrow.

A Honing Steel is not for sharpening. It's meant for daily pre-use edge treatment to align/deburr the edge. There is not one "perfect angle" for all knives. This is just another gimmicky knife sharpener.

Will T-9 lubricant work as well as glide coat?
@ShorePointCreations2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t do it. T9 leaves a waxy residue which could impact your finish. Glidecoat leaves no residue. Hope that helps.

For your final buff use a damp to wet cloth and some neat cement, cheap and is what we always used on a site to clean metal tools , it doesn’t grain your metal it smooths it and keep the rust at bay for longer 👍

Hi J, I used your video to bring the new-to-me table saw back to life from neglect. I got amazing results just like you showed here. I recently bought another tool which could use the same treatment but I had forgotten which KZbin video I used last time. Took me a while but I found it. Thanks again, and now I'm subscribed.

Dw40 and Scotchbright does work great. I used this technique on a 70 year old 8" Jointer. One thing I did differently, was to sand by hand with a freshly jointed block of hardwood on the infeed and outfeed tables and fence. It really doesn't take that much longer, but insures your not rounding edges or bellying the middle areas.

This is going to sound odd but I have had the best luck and fastest results using a wide sharp chisel as the first step. A razor blade works really well too. Dry, no lubricant or liquids. I’ve found that sandpaper, scotchbright pads and especially steel wool takes a very long time and a lot of work especially with a lubricant. The above (minus the lubricant) works excellent after the scraping process but not before. Try it out sometime, you’ll be delighted with the results. So my method is scrape first. Then scotchbright. Then fine steel wool. clean and degrees with naphtha or denatured alcohol. Then paste wax the top, fence, any sliding mating surfaces and sweet Suzy she’s ready to perform!

Question: I noticed on your plug you used flat depth totally and no start depth. I am slightly confused by this. Typically, the traditional teaching on the vcarve method uses the "start depth" as the depth the plug fits into the hole, and the "flat depth" on the plug is how much the plug sticks out from the female piece. I have been doing inlays with varying success on my cnc, so I am curious as I have not seen anyone do it this way before. How does it do with small details, as that is where I typically get "tear out".
@rickh6488 Жыл бұрын
start depth is solely the only really important #. it determines the depth into your female/pocket.. FD flat depth is the amount of material you want sticking out from the top of the plug… also with a 60 deg. V bit your not going to be able to go very deep on the female pocket so the inlay will not be as strong as a deeper pocket. Fine for artsy stuff that will hang on a wall but that’s it. I suggest 6mm pockets or .250” plus! And also to get these better depths you’ll be better served with a minimum 30 deg. V bit or better yet I use a TBN Tapered ball nose with a 6.2 degree angle. It’s 3 flute. Helix cutter very strong, very sharp and can plunge directly to the FD in one pass… minimum of .200” depth on inlays if you want any strength.. ie.. pocket depth… 6mm ( female). SD+FD= 7.5mm goal for me is 1.5mm at the top of clearance SD + FD should always equal 7.5 mm that gives you the 1.5 mm at the top of space There’s a simple rule to follow when doing test pieces. And checking figment of the plugs. Start depth 4.0 mm plug (male) Flat depth 3.5 mm. Plug (male) Start with this on a test piece to find your proper parameters for the inlay
