Excellent review. I have owned the Hummingbird and this unit. I returned the Hummingbird, read into that what you wish. I agree the distilled water volume is extensive and wish there was access to the 3 12in slot option that is exclusive to the Upscale Audio store in the US.

Seems to be too late in the evening. The Stokowski recording is not the Fantasia, but "The fantastic Stokowski" by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinatti Pops Orchestra and for Dvorák‘s 9th by Vaclav Neumann, the Denon Recording is the real deal.
@frankradewagen34883 күн бұрын
Thanks for your great tipps, which gave me some new valuable insights😊Especially the Bach Cello Suites by Anne Gastinel just blew my mind. I would like to thank you by providing my favourite classical records in terms of musical-, interpretation- and sound-quality. 1) Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 5 Eliahu with FRSO - beware of the dynamics in the first part - it may blow your bass drivers when played on high volume 2) Antonin Dvorák - Symphony No. 9 - Vaclav Neumann with Česká filharmonie 3) Edvard Grieg - Peer Gynt Suite - Øivin Fjeldstad with LSO 4) Aram Khachaturian - Masquerade Suite a.o - Kiril Kondrashin with RCA 5) Leopold Stokowski - Fantasia - phantastic transcriptions of famous pieces These came just to my mind, but there are of course other great records which will probably pop later on. I‘ ll kkep you informed. In the mean time I am wishing you a merry christmas and a happy new year.
@frankradewagen34883 күн бұрын
Just realized that there is another recording of Dvorák‘s 9th by Vaclav Neumann, which is just average. The one I was refering to, is the Denon Recording.

I have most of the Horace Silver Blue Notes as originals and I don't understand why he is so underrated in the collector world, he was so important and all his Blue Note stuff sound great and it is always fantastic music. I have this McDuff record too and I like his stuff, so I have a lot of his catalog. I have to check out the Paul Bley record, I played with Billy Elgart in the past.

The last RRPG book I had was I think either 2002 or 2004 and it was laughable in the main. It really was the Bible for UK dealers prior to them discovering the Internet. Some of the prices were clearly rigged by the dealers who contributed the info. I remember Zombies O&O in the edition I had and I think the stereo price was £40. It was clearly a nonsense price as it had always demanded a high price. I paid £30 in the early 90s for a copy which was a lot of money back then but it was still a good price as you just didn't see it around. I bought Kestrel in 2017 for £150. The dealer had the current book and it was priced at £300 whilst it was selling online for 4 figures! The book was full of these anomalies. Great when it worked in your favour but more often than not the book price was way over the top compared to online buying. Thanks for the video Jonas...good topic. Cheers Nigel

Next time I should be your wing man 😊 Rare folk has not gone up so much the last ten years, like Wooden Horse 2, I think it should cost ca 1000 euro today. In contrast to hard rock like Leaf Hound, things like that has gone bananas. But that suits me since I'm more of a folk guy :) I remember when Forever Amber was sold on eBay in 2014, I watched the auction end live. The only time I've ever seen it being sold. I think it would cost way over 10k euro now, maybe 20k. But it never turns up, only 99 pressed. I have that Thor's Hammer, it's the double EP "Umbarumbamba", traded it with Stefan Dimle back in the days. I don't think it should be on the list, but listen to "My Life"... that guitar! . Billy Nicholls is 50-100 k euro. I saw one i Den Bosch for 10k euro, unsold I think. Cheers Jonas!

Sweden's witchcraft CD legends is a really good recording. Megadeth count down to extinction is well recorded. I buy most of my CDs at a thrift store. Another one that I found was white snake self titled. They have a really good line up of musicians. Killswitch engaged the end of heartbreak is another well recorded CD. Extreme to sides to every story is surprisingly good. I'm not really into extreme but it has some good songs and it's a good recording. Unfortunately I don't have that many because I just buy CDs at the thrift store and sometimes just take a chance because they are cheap. Also Metallica black album is a good recording even though it's not my favorite Metallica album. Mad season above is more of a bluesy rock album but it's a very dynamic and has good songs

Great recordings may not connect w/ a listener. Quite a few audiophile recordings are musically generic, derivative, almost lifeless or pretty corny. Some of them, don't really sound great on a well put together system. On the other end, a lot of people aren't going to enjoy most of what's on the TUM, Babel, Hat, Clean Feed, Cuneiform or Tzadik labels. Generally these recordings are sonically more detailed and sound more lifelike than most of what's listed in this video, but they often are kind of exploratory and maybe not for someone who's mainly looking for more of what they already like.

Your still in the early days of your journey and it takes time to really establish yourself. It's also not the greatest economic climate at the moment and I think that this has probably hit sales (of the rarer and "premium" stuff pretty hard). The great thing is as you say hanging around with like minded people and establishing connections that I'm sure will be fruitful further down the line. More power to your elbow my friend, stick with it and I'm sure the sales will come.
