Very educational even though you didn't get the pump working. at the end. After watching your videos I poked around on the intake side of the pump and apparently cleared a blockage most likely caused by loose air filter material. My check engine light went away and hasn't returned. I'm switching to the aftermarket filter that many other Toyota owners are using.

Excellent job, you are the Man. Today's mechanics are parts changers and usually take advantage of the customer. Understanding the why and the what and how makes you a master mechanic in my book! So maybe you did have to replace the part For under a $100. The shops Charge thousands of dollars. Keep up the good work, great video.

Could have cleaned with carburetor fluid and would have been as good as new. Cleans all that gunk and cake off. But nice pointers and tips taking all that off and put it back on easier then other videos. Thanks to you!

You are so brave..I saw another video where water collects in the rubber bottom of the housing to the motor..the mechanic wiped it dry, then drilled a small weep hole so it could drain and no longer collect water. In freezing temp can damage the motor. I think I can manage that but too chicken to remove the valve part from the motor to clean. Oh bother. Chickens have to pay huge to a mechanic for parts and labor, unless I test or listen to motor with stethescope to see if running. Drill hole or use thumb tack to create the weep hole and let drain into a towel. Then try to fish finger in part with the valve or blow into the hose the see if I can hear the valve click. Could save mega bucks. Not cheap to replace. Serv reps, drool when they see the p2445 code.

This video helped me out a lot with my 2007 TT 4 cyl. Also, it will come out if you just bend the curved pipe back a little bit, without having to take the heat shield out.

Sorry I do not really see the benefit spending hours fixing air pump and motor whereas the aftermarket air pump prices range $35 to $100 on Amazon and eBay.

Interesting series. My SAI pipe is WELDED to the manifold. Toyota 2zz-ge. The bolt-on pipe make engine work so much more convenient. But then, not having this entire device on the system altogether would just be ideal.

Probably too late for you but maybe someoe else will see it. I have a 2.7L tacoma. I had been through cleaning my valve several years back and it stuck again. I removed the air hose and filled w motor oil. After a trip to grocery store the valve fixed itself. Lots easier fix than taking the valve off.

Will any kind of motor oil work ? So after doing this fix , the CEL cleared itself ? Did the CEL ever come back on ?

Had a P2440 code and Check Engine light on my '05 Tacoma. "Secondary Air valve stuck open". Finally found a source to buy one without breaking my bank ($140) and ordered one. Meanwhile thinking "I wonder if I can UNstick this thing?". I pulled off the hose that runs from the smog pump to the valve at the valve inlet port and squirted a couple ounces of Mercury Quicksilver (an amazing product designed to de-gick marine engines) into it. Let it sit overnight, cleared codes with my ODBII gizmo and drove the truck to town and back. The CEL never came back on. Now I'm debating whether to keep the new valve or return/sell it. I can do this 30 second repair a BUNCH of times with a ten dollar can of liquid magic! The truck is a 2.7L 4 banger so it just has one 'bank'. I would think it may work on a V6 too.

Hard to believe Toyota would buy such a shitty designed air pump with non-replacable impellers. Grr. My 05 Taco just threw me a 2440 code now I have to start all this nonsense...or pay a Toy dealer a king's ransom. Getting tired of this brand after many years of loving it.

My air pump makes a loud vibrating noise it gave me the P2440 code so I switched the air valves check engine light turned off but my pump is still making that loud vibration noise any idea what it could be?
