The original Klipschorn wasn't open baffle, but they needed the corner to complete the the folded bass waveguide.

These integrated types usually send me packing towards an AVR for more included power, even if I am only using two channels of it. Just not a fan of sub-100 watt amps at these price points, VU meters be damned. Love Yamaha products, just have found ways to get more power with all the features I could possibly need for the future and, enough power to handle just about anything I would want to upgrade to.

Preamp should have treble and bass control. Since there is no treble or bass I would never consider buying this unit. I shouldn't have to buy a separate eq.

Nicely built unit, as most items from Yamaha are, but WAY overpriced. This should be around $2000, not $8000. So that is telling me that even such a renowned company as Yamaha is falling victim to trolling. @ Just Audio, you wanted a challenge for this amplifier? McIntosh. Sadly, it is very expensive as well, but for $8k, I would go with McIntosh. Although I wouldn't even dream of spending that much on a whole system, let alone a single component. Pricing in Hi-fi has gone way out of hand. A single audio component shouldn't cost that much.

Very comprehensive. A brief mention of Edgar Villchur (and Henry Kloss) and the development of the acoustic suspension loudspeaker allowed us all to enjoy prodigious bass response from smaller speaker enclosures than had not been available until after his revolutionary design technology in the 1950's was put into production. Even "ported" designs and "aperiodic" (a la Dynaco Speakers) benefited from Edgar's fertile mind. And there would have been no Linn Sondek LP12 turntable without the AR Turntable.

Hmmm...I thought we were going to get an explanation of what defines HiFi (what it is). I did not hear that though. We did get a history of audio recording format medium. I already knew all of that though. I was really looking forward to how you would explain and define HiFi. That is a rabbit hole you would be wise to stay away from. Way too many differing opinions and everyone thinks they are the expert.

Urei produced the 6290 power amp that worked very well. I used them on bass bins and midrange cabinets.

I have used large amps with the same front grips. It makes installation into amp racks easier by placing the rack horizontally and lowering the amp down into the rack and securing it down.

I set up many pairs of 901s for people , they aren’t great with 100 watts of power. But Put 750 watts of clean power to them , and it’s unbelievable and they like every watt.

Great video! I wish you’d consider making a video about the early “accidental stereo” recordings, like Duke Ellington’s ‘Black and Tan Fantasy’ from 1932. The stereo is amazing, and you can listen here on youtube. The reason we have the Duke Ellington and a few other recordings now available in “accidental” but true stereo is, specifically, because two different record labels wanted their own master recordings. One label held distribution rights in the US, and another international rights, and so each label would set up their own equipment and their own microphones to record the same performance. In just a few cases, like the Ellington recordings, the microphone placement was “accidentally” ideal for stereo. To achieve this, hifi researchers have been able to run down mint or near-mint condition pressings of these records and use one US and one int’l to “reconstruct” stereo masters of the original performance. It’s very challenging, kinda like colorizing old black-and-white photos without using Photoshop. One particular challenge is the fact different labels used different speeds for their masters, nearly 78 rpm but not exactly.

HIFI history in a nutshell. I enjoyed this. As you pointed, there's been a move back to vinyl for some people. Tubes, like vinyl, almost died as transistor equipment got better. But, like vinyl, audiophiles have either gone back to tubes or started their hifi journey with them.
