How to do you prevent the real moss from turning brown, I had a few I did but after a while the moss i had bought turned brittle and browned
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 6 күн бұрын
That's why I added flock over mine. I kind of like that it ages with the model too. As for the brittleness. I sprayed mine with a scenic glue later on. Mix of isopropyl alcohol, pva and water and it absorbs into all the materials and will harden it all. Hope that helps

Haha. Not all resin models and bases cost this much. Lots of 3d printed ones and base toppers. The idea was to show people how to work with resin and how to paint a base:)

I always like how these grimdark styles look, but it doesn't fit for me. Not for Astartes, anyway. You're always hearing how they are constantly, fastidiously cleaning their armor, carefully patching and repainting anything that they have do. To me, Astartes and their dreadnoughts should look very clean except for some incidental dirt and debris from the battlefield itself. I don't think they should look like been through the ringer to this degree. Astra Militarum though, should definitely have this kind of weathering.
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 14 күн бұрын
I get what you are saying. But..humour me...aren't we all pretending they are on a battlefield...in battle? They wouldn't be clean when getting splattered with dirt and blood and gore. The painting is all about immersion for me when I'm playing. Kind makes sense when you see it like that no?
@Bitshift1125
@Bitshift1125 14 күн бұрын
@@SlayerMiniatures I totally agree that it should look like it's been involved in battle, but a lot of what you're doing looks more like what I see on heavy equipment that doesn't get washed thoroughly for years or even decades. There's a distinct grime that builds up in the recesses that is very difficult to ever get rid of after it's built up. It's a different kind of dirtiness, in my opinion, and I would expect Astartes to make sure that never builds up. Again, I can see Militarum equipment looking great with the style you paint with. Personally, I prefer to throw a lot of my basing color on the model and then do more physical weathering to look like battle damage. Scuffs, holes, scratches, knife marks. Blood on weapons and fists also looks "right" to me, especially if you brush on some gloss varnish in those areas to make it look fresh.

That's an amazing incredible video! Really good job! Just a question, Do you use varnish after enamel? If you arent using varnish when you apply another enamel after the previous enamel isnt mixing in a weird way? Thanks mate!
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 15 күн бұрын
Thanks 😀 after the first enamel I let it dry completely. Then apply the rust over the top. The rust was only in spot details and I don't agitate it enough to remove the grime underneath. I varnish after all the Enamels. And before the Enamels

A makeup sponge works much faster than a q-tip and doesn’t leave any fibers behind. You can also use oil paint for the same result. Also, if you are wanting just the recesses filled, you use a gloss varnish before hand. Hope this helps.

RE: preparing the resin for paint In 2004 I bought a Dreadnought from Forgeworld and did not paint it for more than 10 years. When I tried the mold release was still on there but now it was impossible to wash of. I used warm water and soap, I used aggressive cleaning chemicals, I even tried sandpaper but nothing worked. The only thing that did work? Primer from the airbrush. For some reason the paint would stick that way, even though it could not stick with a brush. So if anybody ever has that problem, that is your solution. But just clean your models when you get them, not years later. Oh, and I will be using this base painting technique for my Custodes army. Thank you for sparing me having to paint marble on all their bases.
@SlayerMiniatures

That's a good point to raise. I didnt know it dries over time. Its also very common with us nerds to buy stuff and not paint it straight away. Varnish over the top is the reason I do this

Yeah I don't get it. Ive been using them for like 5 years now and they are so effective and easy to use. I get asked all the time...'oh that looks cool. Now show me how to do it with citadel paints..'. Well, no I can't. As they don't do the same things. People are stuck in their ways

Really good video! I will note with the AK Streaking Grime that your bottle looks like one of the mixes they were using that leaned towards the brown side of the grim effect. AK has switched their mix a couple of times and I own bottles that appear to be greenish in color (and one that's the same as yours) rather that more pleasant darkish brown. Really frustrating, but MiG's streaking grime is still brown (though slightly lighter) and Grimdark Compendium has Goons Grime which is more similar but more difficult to work with. Thanks again for the video, I'll be using this on my Blood Angels!

Thank you 😊 yeah I have had a few inconsistent colours of grime too. Quite frustrating sometimes. I bought some of the villainy Inks but haven't tried them yet. I haven't used mig yet. I was going to try and make my own using oil paint. Cheaper that way and you can control the colour
@dahSweep
