This was an ill-conceived tournament from the get-go. Cayuga Lake averages 181' deep. Take away the northern, shallow portion of the lake, and it probably averages 250' deep! It's a cold lake - mainly a trout lake. We have a round goby infestation here. The smallmouth population took a huge hit in the late-2000s due to the VHS virus. I would guess that the population of smallies presently is about 5% of what it was then. Their comeback has been very slow, due to the cold water temperatures of the lake (harsh conditions for bass), round goby predation and probably the VHS virus. Yes, there are some monsters, but they are few and far in-between. There are no serious smallmouth bass guides here. They are caught when spawning and occasionally in the fall. Nobody is taking out a couple guys and drifting around and casting for bass in the summer like you would on most lakes. Without live-scope, in the summer, you aren't catching smallmouths on Cayuga Lake apart from an accidental fish here or there. BPT figured they could impress the world with some record class bags of fish (taken during what used to be NY's closed season), and instead they tarnished their reputation permanently. Part of it, is that they make money off these pro staff even if they give them a discount. It keeps them loyal to an extent, and you can almost count on them making purchases every year. It also cuts out the middle man because they are selling it to the pro staffer directly. It's actually good for both parties.

This is what a mass lack of self control looks like. If only a handful of guys were willing to do this. The sport would be forced to change, but the reality is there are always more than enough people willing and wanting to participate. The average person has lost touch with the concept of supply and demand. There are so many things that could be done to bring down the cost across the board, but for many. That takes the level status out it or some how undermines the accomplishment. Which is sad, because at the end of the day. What is the cost of bragging rights worth to you?

Trying to become a Elite Series tournament fisherman is a horrible way to make a living! Its really ones ego and pride that pushes a person to even try. There are so many ways to make a living but this could possibly be the worst. A wealthy single man in his 30's this could be a fun endeavor but the average fisherman its stupid career decision!

Wow you've lost the plot. $3200.00 in gear, roughly $200.00 in fishing licenses, $605 in tourney fees, gas to the tourney, gas to the boater, food , motel room and you think the second class citizens in the back of your boat should just smile and be thrilled of the tremendous luck they have been granted to sit in your boat? Why don't any of you boaters do a boater's rules and etiquette videos? Probably because it would be hard for some boaters to actually talk about boaters and etiquette. You see what I'm doing there Hayden? Did it sound as ignorant as yours? I personally don't fish past 9 or 3 but its not against the rules. It only states I can't fish off the front of your boat. The rules do state however the boater can't tell the co that they can't fish! Ill say it again, I follow the unwritten etiquette. As far as I'm concerned all water is good water, it just isn't all great water. Boater's should stop whining on KZbin and talk to MLF about changing the rules if they don't like co anglers. Makes you wonder how many rude co anglers that are on your boats are viewers that had watched these foolish videos and got pissed off?

Why don't they just require the angler to take a picture of each fish on a measuring board ? The judges could easily look at the pic. of each fish and tell if its the same fish. Hell I just do local kayak tournaments and thats what we do.
