Lol I did the same thing as a wizard and I had a scroll of globe of invulnerability so I just used that on the portal and it worked thank god (only realised in round 3 when the portal had 11 hp) and safe to say I survived

I couldnt even pull this off with a full crew. This and the Myrkul fight were (so far) the only times ive had to turn the difficulty down from tactition. Bravo!

how you get perma-shovel as a monk?

Recently I tried doing this fight without cheesing. We barely made it with literally 1 hp remaining on the portal. Although I tried to kill everything as fast as possible. Didn't occur to me to run out the time. Started another new character. Assasin duergar. Might try going pure rogue. Been wanting to try a 1-shot, 1-kill build for a while.

Very impressive. As much as open hand monk is one of the strongest builds in the game, playing it with no gear feels like running around naked so it feels extra risky, especially when having no companions🥹

God I remember my monk and a full party struggling hard to kill this asshole on a normal playthrough, seeing him and his shitty zombies get trounced like this is satisfying.

As amazing as it is, still think that the best things to do with him are either convince him to kill himself, or to let his apprendices hack him up.

Shadow Monk 6 is so clutch. I have a hard time playing anything else these days. Solo'd Sarevok, ran rings around Yurgir and his boys, legit feels like you're playing a 3rd-person stealth action game instead of a turn-based CRPG lol

Just lost my druid run. I was permanently staying in Myrmidon form in the mind flayer colony so as not to waste wild shape charges. I had Gale handle the conversation, like talking to Mizora and Zevlor. When I entered Myrkul's arena, Gale took one look at the elder brain and went "time to do as Mystra commanded"... BANG! Run over.

Why take the shield off?

Also if you don’t know already the ‘target’ number in the pickpocket checks is the number you need to roll (without any variable bonuses) to succeed on the check. So the target is the DC of the pickpocket check minus your dex modifier, sleight of hand proficiency/expertise, and flat bonuses (smuggler ring/gloves of power). It doesn’t count your 2d4 from shapeshift or guidance and technically isn’t counting if you are rolling with advantage.

Holy nice dice rolls on pickpocketing! I’ve heard that Blurg and Derryth don’t attack you for robbing them but sometimes I end up in combat with them. Do you know what triggers this? I was on HM so couldn’t do full testing, but I think it was due to their approval of me dropping below -40. Changing to a new disguise disguises reset approval meter but still triggered combat for me on failed pickpocket checks.

What's the purpose of throwing potions on the ground instead of ingesting them? (besides when trying to get multiple targets with one potion)

You know you could just use scroll of protection from evil for better result. You are immune to fear and enemies have disadvantage to hit you.

I have never used a TB monk on my runs yet but this is crazy. Being able to HM solo with no gear is wild…

Solo (with and imp) No gear (with a bow). Lame, cheat, no skill.

Interesting thing here but you can get more xp by letting hyenas turn into newborn gnolls example at 4:42. Fight is a little harder but you get xp for killing hyena and then the gnoll so it’s more than double. Same amount of hyena ears tho

Against gut, you should proc opportunity attack to burn reaction to prevent her from casting shield. She won't one-shot you and it makes this fight much easier

Will edit this comment for my notes/routing suggestions: 5:23: I never used minor illusion to kill the intellect devourers - very cool and efficient way. 14:45: peaky blinders reference - earned sub 15:00: Even if you get XP for preventing a fight, I usually choose to stand back and watch which guarantees that Aradin knocks Zevlor out. This allows you to pick pocket hellrider gloves very early which is best in-slot for cleric early game. Doesn't matter for this solo runs but is helpful for normal runs. 17:18: You can get shapeshifter ring early without killing ox by using a summon to engage combat and then unsummon/let it die. Then you can talk to ox and buy ring without killing. This allows you to get hat of fire acuity later in act 2 which is BiS for a lot of builds. 23:17: You can use potion of animal speaking (DLC loot) which I think makes skill checks easier 23:36: I always go into basement to grab Shovel and Necromancy of Thay book when getting antidote so I don't have to come back here. 24:06: When going kto goblin camp, you can get three inspirations for 1) eating dwarf meal (you need to steal), 2) poisoning the drink (also need stealth) and 3) torturing liam (not sure what dialogues to choose). This XP matters since you can route to get level 5 without any fights besides grove gat, Grym and some Magma Mephits so the XP from inspirations is useful (when you have 4 inspirations stacked I think you get 40 xp?). 28:10: I use magic missile (upcasted when needed) to secure kill on minotaur. Might need luck with moonbeam damage but guarantees you 75 XP if timed well since you can't miss. 37:37: Doesn't matter too much in this instance (for spellcasters) but club of giant strength with Bernard by breaking stool is good statstick (if for no other reason but giving somebody high STR for being loot mule) 45:23: I think you get extra XP for freeing Barcus (or killing him) but freeing him gives you option of getting later quests. Final notes: You can get level 4 very easily without fighting (besides grove) if you take boat from Duergar to the grymforge. Then exploration XP and dialogues will get you to level 4 if you did the rest of the early game route. Then you can hit level 5 with minimal fights if you cheese some Magma Mephits and Grym (stand on high ground and throw) and then convince Gith Patrol (doesn't need skill check if disguised).
