I installed my Airalo eSim in my iPhone 15 for use in VietNam. I know it installed, but in the auto-install questions, I wasn't sure of the last one about whether the eSim should be the default for iMessages and Facetime. I used the backspace button at the bottom and it exited install. It's definitely showing as installed, but how to I get back to answer that question? In VietNam, it will give me data but will I be able to receive iMessages for texting? How about Facetime?

PS. I'm still in Canada ... not leaving for VN until next week and would like this sorted out before I arrive as iMessages and Facetime are the primary need for me.

You are making these instructions from the point of view of Europeans, that do not pay roaming fees for voice and messages. But someone from America does, so the useful are at best confusing if not useless. Put yourself in the shoes of the visitor, because if I would come from America these instructions are really bad: back and forth between the app and settings.

this video doesn't effectively explain how to activate--separate from installation. Airalo also repeatedly confuses users by interchanging the terms install and activate when they are, in fact, different steps. Installing is FAR easier. Activating when in country is FAR harder. I'd be VERY hesitant to use this company's products b/c customer service consists of lame videos and chatbots followed by hours to wait for "live agents" who also are useless

So I purchased a plan for the USA with data calls and text. When I installed it in Canada for the question about which cellular plan to choose for iMessage and FaceTime I chose the Airalo US ESIM. I have an iPhone and my sister who told me about this plan only buys data and she is able to use iMessage on her iPhone to text. In the video it says I should’ve used the primary number for my iMessage and FaceTime but unfortunately, I chose the Arlo number when I installed it. I want to be able to use iMessage with my family as I normally do. I do not want to turn on my physical eSIM because I will incur roaming charges for sure. From what I have read, iMessage is not a true text message. Everybody I text with uses only iMessage so I don’t need text messages really but I do want people to contact me as they normally would and I believe that is through my primary number. What do I do? Should I have chosen my primary number for the iMessage question during installation and if so, how do I fix it? When I go into settings and then messages, there is a section that says send and receive and there are four different addresses and the phone number. There is my primary number along with some email addresses. Currently my ESIM is turned off because I’m still in Canada. I want to make sure iMessage works as normal so that I can text pictures and things like that with my iMessage app on my iPhone Thanks

Hello there! Please note that each data/voice/call eSIM comes with its own phone number. If the eSIM has an available top-up, you can just top-up instead of purchasing a new eSIM so you can continue using the phone number. If there are no top-up options, you have to purchase a new eSIM and it will come a phone number. If you have a specific eSIM in mind, you may also reach out via chat on the Airalo app or website so we can provide more detailed information. Safe travels!

It’s not as simple, this installation. Quite a bit of detail and fineprint. The worst thing that can happen is toggling “enable data roaming” for your esim but not switching off the data roaming of your primary line during a 30-day holiday.

Hi Aggie! We appreciate your feedback. Sorry to hear about the confusion regarding the Data Roaming buttons. To make it easier to understand, Data Roaming button under your physical SIM has nothing to do with your Airalo eSIM. For some Airalo eSIMs, Data Roaming is required to be ON in order to access data, while for some Data Roaming can be OFF. What is more important, if you are keeping your primary SIM turned ON is to disable the following: - For iOS -> Allow Cellular Data Switching. - For Android -> Data Switching.

If installation proceeded as shown in the video it would be just about tolerable, just badly designed. For me it did not. This is by far the most messy installation I’ve ever seen on an iPhone. I followed each step as presented but do not see the screens shown in this video. The first few steps looked the same, but then nothing. I don’t know if the eSIM has actually installed, although they have my payment. That process was very slick and simple, of course. I will try to get through to customer service, but I’m ready to uninstall this app. The video does not even explain if the new eSIM adds a new number after arrival in the new destination or if it is/should be installed already so I can let people know. So sloppy.

Hi. No verification code from any social network is being sent to my eSIM number. I believe this might be related to iMessage. My other number and email are active on iMessage, but my eSIM number isn’t activating; it only shows the loading icon next to it. Could iMessage be the reason verification codes from social networks aren’t being received on my number?

@airalocom
@airalocom 16 күн бұрын
Hi Henry! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! We completely understand that transitioning to an eSIM may seem different from using a traditional physical SIM. However, there are some advantages of using an eSIM that could make your travel experience much smoother: Instant Activation: Instead of waiting to purchase and swap out physical SIM cards each time you arrive in a new country, eSIMs can be activated immediately once purchased and downloaded from our app. No Risk of Losing: There's no risk of misplacing your SIM card while traveling since eSIMs are stored directly in your phone. Multi-country Coverage: Many of our regional eSIM packages offer coverage across multiple countries in Europe, just like the physical SIM card you mentioned. This allows you to enjoy connectivity without the hassle of purchasing and swapping SIM cards in each country. Regarding your concern about removing your physical SIM card: With an eSIM, there's usually no need to do so unless you want to use it as your primary source. You can have both a physical SIM and an eSIM active on your phone, and you can easily switch between them as needed. We understand that this can be a new experience, but we have step-by-step guides and customer support available to assist you at every stage. If you have any questions about using an eSIM, we’re more than happy to help!

I successfully installed my eSIM but the pop up window that followed asking about cellular plan labels I accidentally clicked away and couldn’t find these options again. But you’re already doing more or less the same thing in the settings app as shown later in the tutorial anyways so is it a big deal? I also wonder if I should toggle data roaming on my primary line off?

Let me know if my understanding is correct - I install the eSIM prior to my travel (as I need WiFi for that) but I do not activate the eSIM until I am actually at my destination. Is that right? Does the activation of eSIM require WIFI connection?

@pamc7307 10 күн бұрын

@earthdweller222
@earthdweller222 10 күн бұрын
No you do not need Wi-if. According to the instructions .. they say that once you reach your destination, you turn on your ESIM and you turn off your primary line. Then, you go into airplane mode and turn it on and off. The new ESIM should find the network that it’s supposed to . Nowhere does it say that you need a Wi-Fi connection to actually activate once you arrive at the destination. My sister uses this all the time in the USA and she said it’s dead simple. She buys data only. She has an iPhone and she does not have to do anything special for text to work in iMessage. She says her husband knows nothing about technology and he is able to do it so that is good news! She told me that all she does is shuts off her primary line and turns on her eSIM line in the cellular settings. That’s it. Turning airplane mode on and off might just be a way to reset the settings to use a new eSIM but I’m only guessing.

Video leaves OUT the most important info - WHEN to install ? The app installs and then activates it (but i get scared and opt until I reach the country). This has always been the most confusing part. If I activate in US (2 days before the trip), do I lose those 2 days if it was 10 day package ? This video needs to be re-done !
@airalocom
@airalocom 27 күн бұрын
Hi Tim! Thank you for your feedback. Let us clarify how Airalo eSIMs work: Activation: For some eSIMs, like the ones for the US, the plan activates when you connect to the supported network at your destination. This means it’s perfectly fine to install the eSIM a few days before your trip-doing so will not deduct any days from your package. Other eSIMs: Some eSIMs might activate as soon as you reach the destination, while others activate based on the purchase time or immediately upon installation. We ensure all this information is clearly mentioned on each eSIM's details page before you make a purchase, so you can always double-check how the activation works for the eSIM you're interested in. If you need any further clarification, feel free to reach out. We’re here to help!

Tim, you are correct. I think they deliberately leave that out or make it unclear. I purchased an Airolo 30 Day eSIM recently and upon receiving their email, I followed their instructions to install the eSIM. They advised that you can install and activate the eSIM before you travel and that their service plan will only commence when it detect the overseas network. I have just logged into my Airolo account and it showed my plan expiry date exactly 30 days FROM my date of purchase/installation. I have not even left my country yet but I already lost 6 days.
