The difference between invis pots and hot swapping/bhopping is that the latter are active combat mechanics which require skill to utilize effectively. Invis pots are essentially an out of combat mechanic that you're typically popping around the corner and out of sight from someone. They're just as bad as when rogue landmines were at their peak. Strong invis abilities are terrible for the state of the game whereas skill based movement tech is a very good thing.

I think if we were in an era where gaming culture - specifically around this game - wasn't so atrocious, then invis pots, rogues, and other playstyles that are usually frowned upon wouldn't be a problem. But DaD has a cultural problem. It's not just toxicity, it's also ego, entitlement, pride, elitism, and an ego-driven obsession to dominate opponents without respect. Of course a hardcore game attracts a hardcore audience, but this game truly gives you just the absolute worst people that online gaming has to offer. I too am part of that problem. I regularly resent people for just playing a class, and when I really thought about it, I struggled to come up with classes/builds that I _wouldn't_ take issue with in some way. Druid? Game-breaking freak. Rogue? Dishonorable rat. Fighter? PDR slave. Ranger? Trap abuser, windlass abuser, longbow backstep spear abuser. Sorcerer? Just a general freak. Cleric? Either braindead W key melee freak or magic heal abuser. Barbarian? Braindead meta slave. And so on And then Ironmace feeds the toxic behavior and egos by giving players shit like fart and "L" emotes for narcissists to use when they kill a player. And I'm a freak like that too, especially lately I've been hitting the goblin dance on people that frankly didn't deserve it. This game has changed me and not for the better. Engaging with the community in almost any way outside of great streamers like Soapy has made me want to lobotomize myself. And to tie this into invis pots - to me, as a brain rotted fallen player, they are a degenerate freak-like strat, that I would nevertheless use myself if it helped me win, just like I abuse hot swapping, bunny hoping, and desync blocking. But is that a me issue, a gameplay issue, or a cultural community issue? In a world where we wouldn't feel the need to assert dominance over every kill, but instead offer respect for a fight well fought, & in a world where we could die without feeling like our ego was directly assaulted, I think the game as-is would do fine. But we're freaks, and we will squeeze freak-like tactics for the last drop of gear, AP or fame we can get out of them, until they're forcefully removed through fixes and nerfs. Meanwhile we will complain about the very same tactics when others abuse them to win against us. Despite the atrocious amount of yapping in my comment, I can't offer a solution to this problem. All I know is that my soul is shaded black and I need to repent, and so do the rest of the no lifers playing this game too much
@Isaax2 күн бұрын
If I had control over DaD or could my own DaD-like game, I think I would accept the fact that the community is rotten and attempt to compensate for that as much as possible through designing the game in a way that gives players a natural incentive to be dignified and respectful, while limiting options to be toxic & making it an unsatisfying thing to do. I'd remove emotes that can be used to be toxic, I'd remove classes and playstyles that I'd consider freak-like, even if it destroys class identity. For example, no more Creep, nor hide rogue. I'd do my best to brainstorm an idea to rework rogue into a crafty cunning class that gives itself advantage through clever use of environment and tools, but in a way that flows with the game rather than against it (panther chicken jump is an example of a mechanic that goes against the flow of the game.) No more invis pots, they are now "cloaking potions", they make you slightly transparent but still relatively easily visible, with the main benefit being mobs de-aggroing. Total darkness will be harder to achieve, and players will make some kind of noise even when standing still. Landmine will be completely eradicated. Druids are removed altogether until I design a new Druid-like class that follows the true class fantasy instead of the abomination we have rn. All ranged weapons are reworked to feel more responsive, but have atrocious projectile damage drop-off at distance. Every red or blue portal/gate would first need to be interacted with before being able to use it, and it only stays open for a short time, then you have to interact with it again for it to open again. I'd need to do something about speed too, but I'm not sure how to fix it, especially since I want more melee focus. I want people to be encouraged to take fights and not be able to run away as much. I also want people to be less punished for taking and losing fights. I'd need to overhaul gear in some way, maybe a game mode that allows you to have soul-bound gear that always stays with you or something. Maybe as a part of character leveling. Nerf m-heal hardcore, giving it a modest cap of maybe 10. Every source of healing in the game including health shrines will now heal gradually, never instantly, but it varies. Something like lesser heal will very quickly heal like 40% of the total heal within 1-2 seconds, then the rest of the healing trickles in over the next 5-8 seconds. Repeated healing does heal more but with diminishing returns. Whenever you are healed by something like torture mastery or cleric heals, you get "healing sickness" as a debuff that reduces incoming healing by a lot at first, but as the debuff ticks down the penalty decreases with it, rather than being a rigid on-or-off thing. For TM specifically it works kinda opposite where the more you heal off of mobs, the higher your healing sickness is, and you recover from the sickness over time when NOT being healed off of mobs. This way you are punished for relying to much on mob heal and you CAN'T instantly reset with one damn hydra every time your HP falls below 50%. I'd also remove phantomize altogether. Fighter gets second wind removed I think, and more focus is put on skills that are currently off-meta. I want it balanced in a way where every single fighter you see is more than a sprint-PDR-second wind copycat - it could be a shield bash/taunt pavise using fighter, or a halberd adrenaline rush victory strike fighter. The hardcore nerf of range will make Fighter the classic choice for varied knight-like melee builds Bard needs a complete rework too. I enjoy him being a dexterous, squishier and eleganter version of fighter using rapiers, rondels, etc, but the way the skills and buffs currently work completely misses the mark. Bard will be reworked into a class that retains its versatile powerful nature that can do everything you spec it into, while simultaneously gaining a hard focus on RP-features such as choosing 1 instrument to use based on whatever sounds best, and allowing you to play songs just for the sake of playing some good medieval tunes Sorcerer... Honestly, I'd remove them and rework them from the ground. I don't know how but I don't enjoy them as is That's all I can think of at the top of my head

Got to learn to play around them, much rather watch someone who uses invis pots rather than hot swap and bhop. Using game mechanics > abusing game mechanics. Side note: For someone that isn't entirely new and just sits in 0-24 lobbies all day, any advice on making gold? Do I need to hop into highroller to have something like 30k in my stash?

@@00Cyclops00 squire kit lobbies. For GC if you can stomach troll and 3rd parties the pelt is 10k+, if not the bug room adjacent to troll has 3-4 giant spiders, and each can drop spider silk (2-2.5k each). Also if you can't troll, do cyclops because in those lobbies somebody will always kill troll and you can quickly go to middle room and mine out the gold ore and dip, usually whoever kills troll just gets the pelt and dips or goes next game if no pelt. For ice caves you can spam the two wolf modules top left and middle left, wolf pelts are 1.5k each and if you hit both modules you will average at least 1 per match For ruins, rush the wolf den and do pelts, then go middle room down below and mine the ruby silver. Top left and middle right also have chances to spawn ruby silver.

All is fair in the Dark as far as im concerned. as long as its not stuff like finding spots that let you get out of the map and swing at people and them not being able to swing back. hot swapping bhopping and all the tech in dark and darker is easy. Nothing is a 1 frame input, theres no just frames, theres no chaining of perfectly timed inputs. (fighting game lingo) so all the tech thats there other people CAN learn it rather easily its just a matter of will people bother with learning it or complain they have to learn it at all. Some nerds just want to W key and feel strong. Games like this and tarkov just might not be fore you if you dont want to learn the new goofy stuff that people discover, new tech new common spots ect. When I walk into any new room in DnD i stop and wait right inside the door for like 6 seconds, if theres someone landming they most often jump as im in the doorway and i get my somewhat fair fight, if you just RUN into the next room and theres chests open roaster off and doors open. Not waiting or stuttering your steps, its your own fault for getting landmined. just treat every new room and hall like it has a rogue in it and adjust your playstyle.

On a technical level hotswapping supposed to seem worse since its not intended to be in the game but invis pots are. However, the main problem is that they are even in the game to begin with, of course if theres something obviously overpowered players will abuse it. Fundamentally its a game/item design issue but for most ppl its easier to complain to players who use this "issue" instead of complaining to those who created said issue

They will hate on invis pots, but wont mind rogues and wizards having invis on demand. They will hate on slow on judge and faith, but wont mind achilles strike, electrical slows, ice slows, strong slows on crossbow and franciscas and in general two handed weapons. They will hate on heals, but wont mind druid heals and warlocks never ending supply of self sustain. And after all this its easy to come to a conclusion, they dont hate the mechanics, they just hate that Cleric is doing it, because if its fine for other classes, except Cleric, its just common sense that they specifically just want to see a class die.
